Is it too much to ask for smooth controls?
Element47 replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
i have no idea why you guys talk about weapons, as they have nothing to do with the implementation of game controls. or should we start a debate on obesity here because the controls are equally horrible when holding a can of oversugared soda? -

walking in a building without bumping into walls and turning either too far or not far enough does not require military training, its something most learn at around the age of two. -

this is how its supposed to be. currently mouse input is inherently broken. latest example: standing calmly on the street, moving my mouse slowly ~10cm to the side nets me a 1080° turn, moving my mouse fast the same ~10cm nets me ca. 270° turn. the same equipment, exhaustion level, stance. this results in horribly inconsistent turn rates, which are plainly nauseating, especially in buildings. edit: meh double post, apologies. -

this is not true. the DayZ team has direct access to the engine, so it would be absolutely possible to code new input controls without too much hassle. However i agree that we probably wont see it, considering how massively Arma code and assets are reused by the team. Its a pity though. -

it is an abomination. -
when i first saw the word KOS I thought it literally meant chaos...

what has blown my mind was the fact that it needed an acronym and a persisting debate i always just saw players as either friendly, neutral or hostile. -
definitely one of the better ideas. implementation would need some tuning, there are actually dozens of bus stops, elektro alone has 5 i think, so we should have different bus lines.. nevertheless, beans for this.

this.

i would like to state though, that IF they were really necromancy-reanimated dead-returneth-from-the grave bodies, then OPs suggestion would have my full support. It would also allow for dynamic raise-from-the-ground ankle-gripping zombie action. alas, not this time.
-
Lore time: According to DayZ lore, Zed are actually living infected people, not reanimated dead. Dead people are dead people.

zombies should alert more zombies. i remember when i starting killing in nwaf - with a mk.48. after the first twenty dead zombies i was simply overwhelmed, because the LMG brought all the boys to the yard. soon they were everywhere and mangled me to death before i could reload. have a single aggroed zombie alert 40 more, let them literally spawn on the player, raise from the ground, climb out of trash containers. then we have a real threat.

Survival is not just about looting canned food and ak47s

this is EXACTLY what i expect of the finished game -
the only acceptable reason why someone would try to roll in the water to drown is to alphatest water and drowning mechanics. congratulations, you found a bug. i hope you bugged it properly at http://feedback.dayzgame.com - with screenshot, dxdiag log and accurate description?

the spawn points are not finalized yet. i'd expect them to be ready for beta next year though. that said, i never died at the coast in the SA, probably because i dont stick to the coast but go directly to staroye/mcta/mogilevka/polana/dolina

Books that give you abilities, skills, and animations while in inventory
Element47 replied to THE_T_V1RUS's topic in Suggestions
i can imagine the necessity to have a manual or reference book in possesion to be able to repair certain vehicles for example, like the UAZ operations and maintenance manual to be able to fix up the UAZ. -
Different hand writing styles for pen and paper for "every" new spawn, that deteriorates when in bad shape (with working prototype thing)
Element47 replied to b9bYVw2mSu's topic in Suggestions
beans for sound of silence. i hoped you had an algo for distinctive computer-generated handwriting, random choice of 5 fonts has me disappointed now :P -
definitely worth it.

The game should have motorbikes in large numbers instead of rare cars and horses

my idea of a motorbike for the apocalypse: -
screw your french press. i want a proper machine capable of the 9 bar pressure needed for a proper espresso.

this is obviously not true as there is a massive amount of reports, threads and videos of people enjoying themselves massively and having general fun in the game without killing people. i will defend the sociopathic killers in this game to the end, they make my game so much more tense and enjoyable, they make the friendly encounters so much more rewarding. if you kill because thats your playstyle, thats perfectly fine. but if you kill because you are bored and have no idea what else to do, then you are just an unimaginative dumbfuck. then you are probably better off with a rail-shooter game that forces you to complete objectives. then you are a disgrace to all the players who kill on purpose.

Srsly? i just farted with my mic open... /leembarassment

different ground textures may act as "containers" for basic materials
Element47 replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
but thats not necessary. you dont create the objects in advance. player initiates gathering action -> check if player location warrants ressources, and which. success check. spawn ressource into player inventory. its like drinking. you dont track every sip of water individually, you check if player is in a position where he can drink, and then you have each drinking action trigger an event, increasing hydration value. -
i dont think you understand what realism means in this context.featuring a fictional premise like the outbreak in a fictional country does not exclude a realistic setting like modelling the country and time after real places. otherwise you could argue in favor of including spaceships, magic wands and unicorns.
-
we arent talking fullscale warfare in context of an outbreak. the infected dont use any vehicles, so there wouldnt be heavy weaponry deployed, only anti-personnel weapons as the ifnected are soft targets, and possibly riot control. so while such weapons may exist in a storage, they havent been fielded. so no, there wouldnt be really much reason to find RPGs in small villages.

this isnt WoW.
