i appreciate the effort and dedication, and the will to help should never be punished that said, you could really improve the structure of your post: use font formatting (size, color, bold, italic) for clarity and emphasis. having headlines, subtopics and content all the same size does not help.regarding colors: they are fancy and shit, but inconsistent use doesnt help. starting 9 out of 18 bullet points with random colors does not help. also: (dark)blue on black is highly unreadable, you want to change that personal note: i despise shameless selfbumping. dont do that. (and dont ask others to bump your threads). its bad form. if your guide is good, and people like it, it will get the attention by itself. see Merinos in-depth guide for reference of a high-quality guide that was community-voted to be pinned.

harsh, brutal pvp is one of the core aspects of the game. it has nothing to do with community being good or bad. this isnt SimZ. embrace the threat other players pose as part of the experience, and act accordingly. for me, it meant going out and healing people, in spite of the murderous sociopaths roaming the coast, and supplying others with consumables and rare loot i smuggled from the north.. the community as such is actually extraordinary. helpful, friendly, with a tolerable amount of trolling and flaming. i have yet to encounter things like "l2p faggot, stop failing, omg uninstall the game and die already you fucktard" - something you probably get to hear within the first 30 minutes of League of Legends or Call of Duty.. edit: you should be aware that your last post actually sound like from one of those entitled little brats that make gaming communities miserable..

the difference is, that a single WoW sever supports thousands concurrent clients at the same time, and its really persistent (it doesnt go dark because the admin has found a different hobby or cant afford to continue hosting) current setup of DayZ is more comparable to TF2 or Counterstrike servers than to typical MMO realms/shards

When Does The " ALPHA!" Excuse End?

this had me laugh out so loud that my boss came over from his office next door, probably in anticipation of a hilarious cat video that usually make me spouting my tea during crunch time... -
a fine idea, but needs more drinking. way more.

putting a fast-travel system into DayZ? -
fun anectode - when i first read about it - i think Dean was explaining something in a reddit reply - i thought they use military ballistics simulation from BI, developed for 'bullets' - only later i realized that 'Bullet' is the name of a complete (and open-source) physics library

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Element47 replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
it so easy to hack the game? you are in the know, huh? well thanks you're here to tell us, as i am sure the devs werent aware of it till today... the anticheat system is constantly being updated and quite successfully, i must say. monitoring the scene, i noticed several paid hacks have been removed from circulation by their shady creators because of detection and bans. i would explain to you how a game under active development is vulnerable to exploits and how legacy code and placeholders are risk factors, which are being gradually removed during the development, i would maybe also go on and tell you how different development teams work on different parts of the system and how the anti-cheat system providers collaborate with the game developers.. i would then maybe voice my concerns and speculations regarding the future.. but reading your post i doubt you'd understand anyway.. let's see if i can find something on your level of comprehension.... -
Great game but the fighting is a little..well..
Element47 replied to NewtoThis's topic in New Player Discussion
random modifiying the executable (or any file for that matter) of a multiplayer game with anti-cheat protection/checksum tests is usually not the best idea ;) -
i prefer the low-tech approach the game currently has. we also have no established lore regarding the scope of the apocalypse. if the whole civilized world is afflicted (which seems a reasonable assumption as we have no indication of help/communication from outside) then we can assume the gps ground stations lost power within months (considering hydro/emergency power) and then the satellite positioning systems would deteriorate within days or weeks at best without the ground stations providing constant corrections for clock offsets.
-
i cant say its a bad idea, its something to consider for a later stage. adding another layer of 'difficulty' finding that really good gear? sure why not. i presume you want just ammo-packs and health-packs? the gun nuts would go.. well.. nuts if we had one-size-fits-all ammo packs - so we have different types/sizes of ammo, fitting the weapon we use. with the survival aspect getting (finally) more emphasis along the road, proper clothing is at least as important as your weaponry - so let us have to find the perfect fit instead of one-size fits all.

network latency is only one aspect of noticable interaction lag. from what i gathered, most of the lag we experience in DayZ is due to the server-side part of the game, so neither your machine nor your network can fix this (apart from the fact that the game in its current state is suffering from the age of its engine, so its miserably utilizing multithreading, multiple gpus and as a 32bit app cant address more than 2GB ram) as for the future, i can definitely recommend watching Deans presentation from Rezzed 2014 where he also unveiled the latest roadmap: in any case, welcome to the game - and the community. both are sometimes rough around the edges but lovable nevertheless ;) P.S: oh before i forget: http://dayzdev.tumblr.com/ the devblog is definitely worth following. if you can figure out reddit, Dean 'rocket' Hall is regularly communicating and the dayz subreddit has some great things going on, and we also get quite frequently newsbits from the devs via twitter, so if your a newswhore like me, there are a few worth monitoring. -
thanks for sharing your experience - and best wishes for your future lives and journeys

Character Wipe/Reset is Annoying and must be top priority to fix.

What dayz could have been without zombies
Element47 replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
slightly offtopic, but since gibonez referenced Frostfall: some may not be aware that Dean is a fan of Frostfall, stated that he wants to bring a lot of its features to DayZ, and is in close contact with Frostfalls author.. i think we will see good things come out of this there is a significant share of the community who wants a strong emphasis on the survival aspect, and i am sure those will be heard. i disagree that you need to get rid of zombies to achieve that though, to me they are just another element of the hostile environment. -
Whenever you use the realism card for DayZ...

1. I didn't notice the first time i was watching until he put the book down. 2. I would. Have you never been in a DayZ bookclub? 3. People who don't read are dumb.

What dayz could have been without zombies
Element47 replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
yeah, imdb keyword search is a fun tool... imdb lists over 2100 movies under the keyword "zombie" - among them such classics like "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" and "Futurama: Benders Big Score". imdb keyword search also lists over 2300 movies with the keyword "alien" - does it mean that its an even more overused trope? i disagree. those are popular themes, popular because they engage us and our emotions. zombies are a special breed - they were once humans, they bear resemblance to their former self, and carry the threat that we too might lose our humanity and become mindless husks. they are not only scary because they obviously defied death, because they can maim us, infect us, and generally gross us out with they decaying walking corpses - they are scary because they are the epitome of man-become-monster. this diverse potential makes them so popular, and thus we will continue to see stories about them. oh, btw: http://www.imdb.com/search/title?keywords=love&sort=moviemeter%2Casc&title_type=feature&year=2013%2C2013 170 love films in 2013? now here's an overused trope.... -
but it is. character customization through clothing/armor is one of the most popular features for many loot-centered games, and dayz among them.

meh, i'd argue that zombies are the most overused trope of popular culture. what about aliens, robots or nazis? -
working as intended: since there have been significant changes to the N/NE parts of the map, current spawn choice increases the player traffic to the north to have more feedback on the new areas. its not different with new items: they have an increased spawnrate so many people can test them thoroughly.
-
spawns are, where they are needed to be at current stage. do not expect spawn point balancing until well into beta.
