thats the spirit.

to me, part of the appeal of dayz is that everybody is presented with the same framework, and it is the players experience which counts, not the experience of the avatar. originally, dayz prided itself that the average lifetime of a character was below one hour. with such a concept, there is no place for long-time character progression. its the gamer at the controls who should get better, not his virtual reprsentation.

New YouTube Channel, Amazing videos. Need help getting on my feet
Element47 replied to Caz1402's topic in Gallery
-1 for bad gameplay, and additional -1 for using the animated intro made by arneoog without crediting him people like you are the cancer of youtube, unimaginative content based on the work of others. -
even if you originally didnt intend to dupe, you went to loot your copy. the "hey man i can shoot your body so you have more ammo." shoutout aint helping your case either. to be honest, i dont really care. this is a glitch that needs addressing, and thats what this stage of development is for. the more frustration people express, the higher the chance it gets a higher priority. but i really cant blame the yellow guy for shooting you for this

Thoughts on population distribution
Element47 replied to MarchmelloMan's topic in General Discussion
there will always be hotspots and traffic lines - and should be, those make a map interesting. but do not expect balancing of these aspects until all map (and gameplay) features have been implemented - so we're talking well into beta. also, once persistent storage is implemented, this will change dramatically, because the least travelled areas become among the most popular for a stash. once hunting is properly introduced and food spawns in cities reduced, we will see more people in the woods. once all map features are in, spawn points will be adjusted. -
if you are talking about a server, you cant. during the development, only managed hosting solutions from established game server providers are available, under strict terms and rules. once the game releases, you will be able to rent a dedicated server and run your own instance with a full set of admin tools as far as i recall

Why is development time being poured into more new towns?
Element47 replied to uberfrag's topic in General Discussion
i am really torn on the topic. due to the higher run speed and all the additional buildings, i miss that feeling of being lost in the woods. on the other hand, more settlements means more loot spawns, so the scavenging (and associated interaction with other players) gets spread out instead of having three major hotspots, which isnt a bad thing... ah well.. i wont judge it before its finished.. -
this needs to happen. +1

remarkable success for an experiment in game design. congratulations are in order. i, for my part, do not expect all the revenue from this sales to go into DayZ. that would be, in my humble opinion, rather unreasonable. of course i am looking forward to the increased possibilities that the success brought to the game: additional studios, migration to steam, 64bit, even replacement of the renderer. but i also look forward to the things that are behind the horizon, to dean hall building his own studio and making the games he wants to without any limitation from a parent company or publisher. i am actually absolutely excited about this - its a success story of a man with a vision, and i am so glad i was here to witness it. its an inspiration to me, not to give up and settle but to follow your dreams.

over 2k posts? you should know better. character spawns and item spawns arent balanced for gameplay, nor will they be until well into beta. they serve solely the purpose of directing players to the map regions that need feedback, and proliferating items to the player base so they and their mechanics can be extensively tested. since most players check those houses, of course you put those items there, so a large part of the players can pick them up and test them edit: oh, and your post is a rant, not a suggestion.

you know how our parents used to say, television ruins kids? (well, if you're in my generation at least) today its youtube. you have a crapton of vids of wannabes youtubing how they bitchslap everyone they came across, so its a trend. on the bright side, i have the impression that #forcefeeding has lost some of its appeal now..

thats ze germanz surgical precision. at least its not all getting nom'ed by orlok

Involving women as dedicated consultants to the art dept. in the development of the female character is a magnificent idea - and if it has been done already, it should be expanded, and this idea should be lobbied by all of us. Its nice to have an engraved 1911, but i think finding a sufficient reprsentation of the female player base is more important. Go art team! I know i'll be tweeting @ctorchia about this - and so should you!

they work as a 'tool', basically a catalyst activating another items. OP suggest they work on their own as a (temporary) light source.

walks into the airfield, kills some guys. suddenly dies -> must be hackers. seriously though: after several reads of both the seizure-inducing first post and the -extensive- clarification by OP i think he died to what he thinks was a teleporting hacker, and he states that this needs to be fixed before any further development. this demand of course completely ignores the fact that a software - especially as complex as a multiplayer game - can only be hardened against exploits AFTER it is finished. to use a crude metaphor, there is no need for a locked door if you have no walls. or windows. or something.

thats not apocalyptic, that the smashing 80s all the way - i know it, i've been there :D
