Bikes being overpowered - DayZ really is a harsh place :P
-
This is DayZ, not WoW, balance doesn't belong here.

debug monitor, improving crossbow, remove panic sounds.
raptorak replied to ChapYurin's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Yep - hate the panic sounds as well. -
This should also apply to the maps, which you can, in fact, write on; but I'm not sure if the notes transfer when you get killed and looted. Cool if they did though.

What do you want to see in 1.5.9 ?

I think bandits should be able to be known, for example, "raptorak is a bandit, watch out". Perhaps we shouldn't be able to change our names, and we should have an ingame messageboard system in major towns where you can write down the names of major player killers. Basically, you should be able to know the reputation of a player through word of mouth, not necessarily from what he looks like, but also it would be nice if we could customize our skins a bit, no matter whether a survivor or a bandit.

Please don't "balance" this game, carebears please d/l LFD2.

Well, I believe that the only problem with the zeds is that absolutely retarded running mechanic where they run in random directions towards you. They need to fix that, at all costs. IF they can fix that, they might want to slow them down just a tad (speed of crouch-run player), improve their death animations, and that's about it. Also, they might want to add some slow walkers, who have abnormally good smell, and will slowly shuffle towards the smell of a living human, without triggering a run animation. Normally in the daylight, you will see him a mile off. But at night, you could have 30 of these slowly shuffling after you and you might not even see them until they are munching on your ass. This could also be a counter for the "go prone and make sweet love to the zombies without triggering them" playstyle we have now. You would have to get in and get out before the walkers alert the whole lot of them. Or if they were being lazy, they could give this ability to the crawling zombies, that would be so mean of them, but at least you might be able to scout them out :)

What they should do, is you select a name and a skin, and you have to play as that always. Maybe even allow you to customise your appearance a bit. The only way to change your name would be to get a new copy of Arma II. Then, there should be a message-board system in-game, where you can read it and find out who are the top killers and murderers. There should be a bounty system where players can offer equipment on payment of the delivery of the bounties' head, perhaps to a certain coordiante. You then have to meet up with the player to make the exchange. Who knows - maybe someone put a bounty on themself to lure in some suckers?

MERGED: Everything poop and pee
raptorak replied to grandpa_smuckers's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I believe "what is this I don't even" was made for this... -
Melee would be a good idea, but it should be only powerful enough to take out a single zombie at a time safely.

Kickstarter with Game Purchase also available at release. MUST have a decent engine, ARMA III engine I guess, Cryengine would be awesome as well. Most importantly, MUST NOT BE FREE TO PLAY!!! F2P waters down games, this game is good because it is a pure shot of ethanol compared to the watered down Budweiser shandy that is the rest of the game industry. You need to make it a little sweeter to drink, but the effect should be the same. If anything needs to happen to this game, it needs to play, control and look better, but the concept and atmosphere is 100% right. So I say it needs a professional team behind it to get it looking and playing as well as possible (seriously, the interface in this game, plus the ridiculous zombie movement...) because as far as concept goes this game is miles ahead of all the competition. You must listen to the community of course, but I think the main thing Rocket needs to do is listen to himself, and not to compromise for the many carebears who would have you ruin the game.

I think if there is anything we can all agree on, it is that the zombies need some major work. The rest of the game is actually pretty great, but the random directions and warpy movement of the zombies, not to mention their confusing death animations, really need to change. My main problem with the zombies is the spawning, they seem to appear out of nowhere, usually very close to where you are, and respawn far too quickly. On top of that, they run all over the place and so are generally best dealt with by running backwards and shooting, whilst you wait for their melee animations to start. Currently, especially with the broken spawn rates of weapons on the servers, the only use for weapons is on the other players since your only option is to Splinter Cell when on a looting run. I understand there are some limitations with the engine - but they are limitations which will need to be overcome in future, otherwise the "alpha" moniker will be there until Arma III.

Yeh it looks like he must get naked every time he eats..... eww.

Dead characters should rise as loot carrying zombies
raptorak replied to sidneymcdanger's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think this might be a decent idea, but it should take some time before the corpse rises. By the way, are player corpses permanent? -
The worst thing was when I was creeping through Balota in search of the source of buzzing flies, with flares out at night, and some dude came running straight toward me with a horde of zombies on him. Once they started hitting me, he disconnected, and I died since 2 clips of M-16 were no match for the ridiculous amount of zombies even a small village can hold. No doubt he got all my stuff and carried on. Kinda lame really. I have no problem with his tactic of training a zombie horde, except that he was able to escape without harm due to an exploit. This game is hardcore and I like that, but we shouldn't be able to cheat - disappearing instantly seems pretty softcore and grief inducing to me. I often use the gamma "exploit" because it is far too tempting. I wish it didn't exist and gamma was limited.
-
I don't suggest gamma be limited to exact 1.0, there could be a range of brightness and gamma correction (brightness seems fine, gamma maybe limited to 1.2-4). It's just that on my monitor, if I switch gamma to full, I can see everything in black and white, and it is incredibly clear. I hate to admit that I keep using it, especially since my server is low pop and I usually have to go it alone, so when creeping into a barn/military base to steal the loot. I am nearly invisible to every zombie since I am prone, but I can see them no problem.
-
Power grids would be a great addition, and localized gens even more so. However, the issue here is that there are simply not enough enter able buildings to make generators in houses that worthwhile, so I guess each town should have a specific power location.

The temperature system & water bottles
raptorak replied to bobbyweenus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
It is a decent idea, but not enough buildings are enter-able, plus there are way too many zombies that constantly respawn to make this mechanic fair at the moment. -
Agreed, had this trick pulled on me a few times, and must say that I've been hanging around those Cherno med stations a bit too long to be deemed "fair play". I also want gamma to be maxed at 1-1.2 to stop the free night vision.
-
I've been playing at night a lot recently, and realised that by maxing the gamma I can pretty much see better than in the day. I really think that night-vision should only be achievable by using the night vision goggles or some kind of light source. Admittedly, the way things are, the game is a little too dark at night, but being able to bypass this by setting gamma to full is a little ridiculous, not to mention unfair on newer players. I suggest that the gamma setting be locked to 1 or 1.2, since if you actually need super-high gamma, there must be something wrong with your system settings rather than with the game.

Dear DayZ mod devs, I find myself in China these days and would very much like to play this mod without lagging horribly and give those around here a chance to play the game. I am considering making a server for the region, could somebody please explain how to go about doing that? I have an 8MB fibre connection, hoping that will be enough. Otherwise we have a Korean server which goes down when they go to bed (and just whilst I was about to grab a silenced SMG :P)
-
ARMA III looks amazing with that engine, I really want to play the ARMA part as well. But, when one of the devs said they would also be looking to customize the area for DayZ (Limnos is rather a bit too bright and happy a place for DayZ imo) I couldn't believe how forward-sighted and generally awesome they were being. DayZ standalone is a likely hood, but I am really hoping that if that is the case, they have the standalone, as well as a discounted version for those who already own Arma III.
-
Thanks for the reply, I guess I was being too a bit too noob and optimistic, which I guess is why I put this in the new player section. Damn, I really want to host my own server though :)

The New Zombie Count is AWESOME
raptorak replied to WildGunsTomcat's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The zombie count is fine, it is the zombie "suddenly popping out of nowhere, or in your face", and the fact that EVERY settlement has them. It should be possible to find barns, houses and deer stands without zombies every once in a while.
