    A solution to KOS and death match mentality?

    Much as I hate it when I get murdered, it is usually because I have given up my position to help a fellow survivor. The choice could be to leave him to die and loot him later (cold but smart), go in and shoot him (COD kid), or go in and help him (brave and humane). Martin Luther King and countless other figures in history died standing up for something they believed in, they made a difference, and that is what we should all aspire to - but if we are all out for ourselves then we are worse than the zombies since we have a choice in the matter. **Yes I realise this is only a game, allow me to get into the spirit though, since so many other people are role-playing mass murderers and justify it with the "in a real zombie Apocalypse..." argument, I want to give another perspective**
  5. Being a bandit is the easy mode way to play this game. There have been so many opportunities where I could have gunned down my fellow survivors for their superior gear, but instead I just let them run on by without them ever knowing I was there. The only times I have died (since my first attempts at ladders and finding out how zombies work :P) are when i have gone to help another survivor and bandits have shot me whilst giving a blood transfusion, giving out painkillers, morphine, or other helpful things. All it takes to kill someone in this game is a shot with a CZ550 whilst someone is looting. Otherwise newly spawned bandits just run at noobs with the Makarov until they luck out, or fire, kill, disconnect to drop zombies, reconnect, loot (or just leave the corpse to rot, since 90% of the time the bandit will be too scared to run in and loot for fear of being killed). The amount of noobs in this game who think that killing other players is actually a challenge is mind-blowing. The difficult part of DayZ is remaining a calm, helpful and civililized member of society and surviving against the mass influx of trolls and COD kids. Maintaining your humanity is the difficult part of this mod, and bandits are simply opportunists who have taken the easy way out. Killing others just because they may kill you is not the morally "right" thing to do and everyone should know that. Go ahead and ask which server I play on because you will be wasting your time, I play on the Korean server hosted by CNG, I won't be waiting for you or asking you to "come at me bro". You may well even kill me, at most all you will gain is a few blood packs which will be of no use to you.

Was wondering whether anyone else would agree, that a sniper shot should knock you to the ground and leave you incapacitated rather than outright kill you, at least to give some time to administer medical aid and maybe drag a downed player away from gunfire. Whilst in this incapacitated state, a further shot, or bleeding out, will kill the player. Was also thinking this should also be the case for makarov headshots etc. I know it is not particularly realistic but it would add a new dynamic to PvP.

    Ammo pack / bandolier

    I understand that being limited on ammo is part of the mod, but it would be nice to carry more, and have some more options for storage. Rather than add any kind of skill system I hope they just carry on adding more loot that is essentially similar to "upgrading" your character. I would also like to see reload animations on the shotguns and winchester as a side note. Also, how do you manage carrying a second primary weapon? Since whenever I have tried that, it seems to drop a whole bunch of my primary weapon ammo and I end up with a useless gun :(

    DayZ needs objective other than survival

    Perhaps the game needs more stats shown on the scoreboard - kills, cans eaten, soda drank, transfusions performed, zombies killed, time alive etc. Also, there do need to be some objectives added - switch on the power, get the train working, turn on the lighthouse, build a base etc. We already have the vehicles which is great - I think we should be able to build some kind of infrastructure back into the world, and have others bring it crashing down.

    Make the game harder

    Right now, there are so many threads and opinions flying out, many of them hoping to make the game easier (slower zombies, dogs, lighter dark bla bla bla). What should happen instead, is that the game should be made even harder. The tears of the players should be the fuel that is used to make the game the harshest game ever created. Bad weather and temperature is a good idea. How about having to maintain your weapon ala Stalker? More and more realistic features should be added; but for every hardship, there should be a counter, and for every solution, a compromise. Cold weather, cold weather clothing; cold weather clothing, quicker to tire when running. Of course, there may be some exceptions. In the end this IS a game, so zombies should have their admittedly ridiculous animations and pathing AI fixed, and inventories should be easier to navigate whilst not presenting the chance of lost gear due to bugs. I also love the fact that essential gear (watch, compass, map etc) has it's own inv space, since limited backpack space definitely treads heavily on the thin line of realism/annoyance. But this game is an experiment as Rocket said. I really hope they keep that idea alive and make this game portray the most most exhilarating, but also the most miserable zombie apocalypse yet imagined.

    I play Quake 3 and Tribes - realistic shooters aren't really my thing, but I think we can all agree that all take skill, just different kinds of skill. Just thought it would be nice to be able to have at least a chance of surviving, obviously I have just been unlucky.

    Sniper rifle - 2 shot kill?

    Not that I don't agree that it takes some skill to fire the sniper rifle, but isn't the winchester also a very powerful gun, but that just got nerfed in damage? Ultimately I would prefer it if a hit with the sniper rifle, apart from a headshot, should drop you to the floor with the ability to crawl away and bandage up/morphine/painkiller up if you have time. I travel with large amounts of meds, might be nice to get a chance to use them in PvP as well. Oh well, I think I might just grab a CZ550, give up my 4,000 humanity and just be a bandit now anyway - since there seems to be no reward apart from death for being "friendly".

    Realistic Temperature Suggestion Thread

    Please use the metric system, Fahrenheit is outdated and only really used in the US - this is 2012 and a European game. Or at least give us a choice.

    Changes to the crossbow?

    The Crossbow needs a bit of a buff, maybe 5 bolts per stack and slightly faster reload. Keep the iron sights the same and make people learn how to use them effectively.

    MERGED: Night time, darkness, gamma

    I made a thread about this a week or so ago and got flamed a lot, but this gamma restriction has to be implemented for the good of the game. Although admittedly it is not a hack, it is in fact worse than a hack, since everybody can easily go ahead and change their gamma settings. This game was designed with day and night implemented, the gamma adjustment pretty much overrides the disadvantages of playing at night time. To hear Rocket speak about his vision of the game, this game was designed to be an experiment, and while players may not enjoy being blind, the darkness is there because it is supposed to be like that. Gamma adjustment is against the spirit of the game and should be limited.

    Use of birds and other suggestions

    1. Get an axe and a knife. 2. Cut down tree, kill a horse/pig whatever. 3. Carve bow, use horse/pig gut for string. 4. Kill chicken, take feathers, make arrows. Flint for arrow heads. EDIT - am aware chicken feathers would suck as flights for arrows.

    Care-bear bandits, ridiculous. No humanity reset, you reap what you sow. They need to fix the self-defense mechanic, that's all.

    Guy below loads about 10 rounds in, and it can shoot pretty damn fast. The main issue with the gun is that it doesn't feature a reload animation, and should of course have to have each bullet loaded individually.
