Logging In Noise to cut down on jumping in behind players
Strogg replied to Chimaera's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I can mostly see this happening in popular sniper positions. I know I wouldn't use this unless I was absolutely sure of where a player might be (another example would be at a camp). -
Simple Deterance to Trigger happy CoD fans and "bandits"
Strogg replied to RedDedZed's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Even gangs have to be able to feed every member of their group, otherwise they get mutiny or members break off and leave. When you see someone else and he asks to team up, you don't know if he has an axe hidden away and/or if his character is already starving, and he might be thinking the same about you. The conditions of the game really make it every gamer for himself, and it lacks the greater social component of human interaction as well as the gravity of real world events as opposed to the happenings of a computer game. EDIT: You'll notice that this is why most close-knit groups are IRL friends. -

As the characters on Breaking Bad are fond of saying, "apples and oranges". I can feel bad about something or I won't, you don't have a choice when it comes to eating or drinking, dying of starvation or dying of thirst. If you're just going to make an illogical comparison, why bother replying? -
Unarmed or just passing by and don't notice you; leave them alone. They act in any way interested in you, they're armed, and/or you need food/water badly; free game. When you raise your gun, they raise their gun... the fact that everyone shoots eachother really perpetuates the cycle.

This.

Well its a mod, I'm sure if Rocket was being paid to support it full time he would gladly keep everyone regularly appraised. After getting home from work, mentally and physically exhausted, the last thing you want to do is more work. Plus it probably isn't that rewarding since Bohemia are really the only ones who reap the profits.

Nonsense, either I see the covenant from Halo fighting zombies or I'll have a fit.

Ah okay, thats some useful insight on the 360. I've been overestimating it this whole time (I assumed it had a better card since it performs better than the one in my desktop).
-
Everyone keeps saying this, but my alienware has an easier time running Day Z than it does AAA titles like Skyrim or Deus Ex: HR. Even my desktop (3.4ghz, 8gb ram, with an average card like the GeForce 440 GT) can play it at an acceptable framerate at mostly maxed out settings (I disable postprocessing effects since it just obscures shit in the distance). Since the processor is only slightly better than the ones used on modern consoles, and the graphics card is much worse, I find it hard to believe that a console would have a hard time with Day Z.

I agree lol, thats what I was saying (in regards to moving to a new engine). He has a huge player base, he would have a small fotune overnight after releasing a standalone.

Why does everyone on this subforum think the game requires a complex moral system to solve banditry? Telling people how they should feel doesn't seem to be in-line with Rocket's vision. -
I don't know, I can't see the 12 year old CoD players having the patience for a game like Day Z. If you want to make things interesting, make it possible to cannibalize survivors. Then shit will get serious.
-
Rocket could design the game however he wants, but in this case he would be following the mmofps schema of Day Z, with the added bonus of being able to implement all the features he wants to and being able to optimize it for Day Z's purposes. In comparison when it comes to modding games there are limits to what you can do (a lot of which is make-shift), unless the game is released with heavy modding in mind or the modder has the game's source code. Working with another engine to make a standalone title would give rocket a lot more freedom to make the game exactly how he wants it to be, rather than trying to mod into the framework of another game 20% is an okay deal for a low-budget indie developer (its not like they the money to support a studio like bungie), but if they feel strongly about it they can always build on the unity engine or code their own engine from scratch, but its much easier just to use engines like cry or the UDK. Making 80% off a standalone title is better than making nothing off of a mod. War Z took the initiative on this front, but something tells me its going to be a flop.
-
Yeah, you can't really trust anyone but your IRL friends in Day Z, except when it comes to clans and such where loyalty can still be suspect.
-
Hide, however if I had a gun and really needed some water/food (like flashing red), I might try taking someone out (haven't had the pleasure as of yet).
-
Not too hard if you look in the right places. However the right places tend to be where other people hang out waiting to blow your brains out (e.g that military base with the tower).

Was Minding My Own Business in Cherno When..
Strogg replied to apyro's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If this is true, that would be pretty fuckin cool. The sad thing is that this is entirely possible with enough organization in a party; have a basecamp where a few people chill and guard everything, while another party of two or three go supply gathering. If someone gets killed, no biggie, they can just respawn, get picked up, and re-equip at base camp. -
Ehh... well, its just an infection. If you don't cook the meat thoroughly enough to kill it, then you would technically just be infecting yourself. Otherwise there is no reason why the meat would effect your appearance.
-
Lmao, I would let him have my things for doing that.

Anyone turned around in the forest and seen Slender Man? Anyone who knows who Slender Man is will now stay out of the forest at night.
-
This is really dependant on the leeway the developer has with the engine code (if any), and their own creativity. Roundabout methods might be a bit more intensive, but its the dev's job to balance visual quality with the practical demands of the type of gameplay. There are plenty of tricks to making things look nice while decreasing the amount of memory they use, or in generating/rendering the map in varying chunks to simulate a seemless, sandbox environment (in reality this is what all games really do, they segment the in-game experience as best they can to minimize resource use at any one time), and being able to efficiently conduct the whole mmo concert from the server. Obviously it won't look as pretty as conventional FPS games, but there is no question that the engine can pull it off.
-
Bohemia don't own Day Z in any way do they? I was under the impression that this was just Rocket's pet project. I don't see why they would be legally entitled to any profits if he were to make a standalone title with the concept.
-
With the $50000 limit of untouched profits, that depends on how much money the game makes. If that extra 5% equals more than $50000 in (eventual) sales, then the cryengine would be a better deal. It becomes a question of how much money the developer wants to make in the short term (I'm unfamiliar of the terms of the licence agreement the cryengine requires for commercial games).
-
This. Day Z needs to be a standalone game. I don't know if you can release a commercial game on the cryengine, but I know with the UDK (unreal engine 3) they'll give you a commercial license for $99 (this one doesn't come with engine source code though, buts its still good for making most types of games; supposing an indie game takes off very well, the developer can always look into getting the primo licence). With the $99 licence the first $50000 of profit is the developer's, but after that 25% of all profits each quarter go to Epic Games. For an indie developer that isn't too shabby. Yeah this is definitely possible, there is just the challenge of building the game from the ground up, but in the long run this is better than just modding another game. Rocket could port all the content from Day Z to another engine to ease the workload for the alpha, but he would eventually have to replace everything that isn't original content if he wanted to release it commercially.

Not that often, every time I run into one they shoot me or try to axe me up. Now I just avoid people or go prone and hide if I see them nearby (watching them get chased by zombies is actually pretty relaxing, "thank raptor Jesus that's not me").
