Which Laptop will run the game better?

That Radeon 7660 is the winner here, so go with the HP.

    Seriously?!

    ARMA2 Patch 1.62 did it. http://dayzdb.com/news/weapon-changes-in-arma2-162
  4. Headshots may be more important, but zombies are way too glitchy for headshots. I've emptied a clip into a zombies head and nothing. Maybe its lag, but headshots are not something I can really aim for because 4/5 they don't work..

    Tips and advice please

I'm pretty sure Zombies don't see chemlights or flashlights (although they do see flares).

Better PC gets worse performance. (FPS)

Use a program like MSI Afterburner or FRAPS or something. (Note that these MAY give you a SLIGHT to MODERATE performance hit while running, so use with a grain of salt and only while testing and not all the time) Did the -winxp switch increase your GPU load at all? It brought mine from 40% to 99%. Have you tried playing with the -exThreads=1 value? (ie, disabling or setting to 2). Do you have the same driver version on both PC's? You say you do, but are you suuuure? (wishful thinking here that its a simple overlooked issue ;p) Is DirectX updated? (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35) Does the high-FPS PC have any different settings in the ATI Control Center? (ie, forced vsync, AA, AF, etc)
  8. How are you starting your game? If through steam, are you launching Combined Operations (sub-option under Op:Arrowhead) ? Do you have -mod=@dayz started?

Better PC gets worse performance. (FPS)

I'm sorry if this is daft, but so far nobody suggest this: Use the -winxp switch as a launch parameter.
  10. I've been following the OA beta patches for a while now, and it seems that most do not have a valid changelog with them. Is there a reason for this? Can anyone tell me if there is a better place to look up changes?

    ArmA 2 OA Beta Changelog?

    GPU usage low in cities

My problem is that my FPS drops a lot, especially when looking at cities. My GPU usage is at 45~55% when looking at a city and I get 15~20fps, while its 90~95% when looking at a forest, mountains, sky, ocean, ground (and get 50-60fps). CPU usage remains at 60~80% (core 1 @ 75% and core 2-4 at 50% usually) RAM usage of the game is just under 1GB; I have over 5GB free after game+os+apps. So why, then, is it lagging when my system isnt even fully loaded? Especially the GPU, as soon as I look at Cherno it drops from 95% to 50% and FPS drop from 50 to 15. STEAM ArmA 2 OA w/ 1.62 & beta 95310. (My issue has been there since I started playing at patch 94xxx) I'm launching through Steam, launch options: -world=empty -nosplash -skipintro -maxMem=8192 -maxvram=1536 -cpucount=4 -exThreads=7 -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@dayz although I've tried removing the maxmem/vram and cpu/thread options with no effect. i7-740qm GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB 8GB DDR3 Win7 x64 I've tried running at my native resolution 1920x1080 as well as 1280x720 (both 3d and interface), with zero difference. I've tried 304.79 beta & 296.10 WHQL drivers.

I dont know how it works with six updater and that stuff, I launch through steam...
  16. I got this error when my beta patch wasnt correct. I launch through steam with -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@dayz and needed to re-install the latest beta patch and copy arma2oa.exe from steam/steamapps/common/arma2oa/expansion/beta/ to steam/steamapps/common/arma2oa/ folder.

    GPU usage low in cities

THIS! GPU usage is now at 98-99% everywhere and I now get a very comfortable 30-40 FPS anywhere in cities and 50+ elsewhere at 1080p/High. You have made my game much more pleasant, thanks for the tip! I should note, this does not affect the speed of alt-tab'ing my game.

VSYNC has been off forever. Max pre-rendered frames comes in 1, 2, 3.. not 4. Its been at 1 and 3, made no difference. I'll try -winxp and see if that does anything :)
  20. With empty hands, I died trying to out-swim a group of zombies. With new found weaponry, I tried to swing my axe through a horde too large. Looking for friends, I found a 7.9mm hole in my skull. With new "friends", I found a crowbar in my spine. With hatred of man kind, I starved to death in the woods. Looking to stuff my bag full of Pepsi and beans, I fell victim to a sniper. Looking to out-gear the sniper, I shot and killed the driver of a pickup truck. His companion promptly put a hundred rounds in my body. Waiting for friends, someone tossed a grenade in the tower I was in. Ka-boom. Logging in on a server, I spawned 25 yards in the air and fell to my death. Running up the stairs, I broke my leg and bled to death. Squeezing through a door, I broke my leg, went in to shock, and bled to death. Climbing a mountain, I fell through a rock. Looking for a friend, I accidentally slid down a ladder that was a bit too long. Crawling down stairs, I fell through and died on impact with the ground. Running and throwing myself on the ground, I warped through a wall and fell to my death. Trying to push past a zombie, I got pushed back over the railing of a lighthouse, and fell to my death. Waiting for a medic, I fell through the floor of the ATC tower. Escaping a zombie horde with a broken leg, I skillfully climbed a ladder like I was healthy as a horse, only to stand up at the top and fall backwards over the ledge. Having looted a house, a zombie noclipped the wall and promptly broke my leg before I put a clip full of led in its chest. With the entrance blocked by a park bench, I was trapped and finally succumbed to insanity and took my own life. Waiting for a fellow survivor to administer morphine, I got torn to pieces by a zombie standing underneath the staircase I was in. Refilling my water bottle, I broke a leg and bled to death in a now ruby red pond.

use , . < > to go to Direct Communication. Voice is heard 80 yards, text is seen 40 yards.
  22. I arrived, wet and confused, on the beach near the airfield. About three seconds into my confusion, I got slapped across the face and told GRHRGSDHL, which I assume is zombie for "Braaainnnssss!". I ran in circles for a bit to lose him, and then used my band-aid. 9000 blood left. I made my way towards the guard towers outside the airfield, only to find a dozen zombies patrolling around the premises. I walked around slowly, climbing up ladders to check the towers for any goodies. Three empty towers. All tents empty. Had I been fooling myself? One more tower to check, but it had an usually muscular zombie soldier right on top of the ladder. Would I be so brave? I had no choice, so I crawled up the ladder just enough to peek inside without alerting the zombie, and wouldn't you know it - an AK74 with three clips turned up. I tested my luck, inching up the ladder until - I couldn't believe it - I reached through the zombies legs, shining his shoes with my shirt sleeve in the process, and grabbed the AK. A heart-throbbing moment passed as I looked up at him, breathing as quietly as I could and backing down the ladder. I had just set one foot on the ground, when all of a sudden: "BRAAAAIIINNNSS!". I don't even take a second to find out if its the man in the tower or his buddy on the ground, I just make a lap around the military base, jump the sandbag wall, and run straight into the commanding officer, who promptly takes a chunk out of my forehead, leaving me pumping blood into the fresh morning air. No problem, I'll just pop him in the head with my AK and bandage up.. Oh wait, I already used my bandage. Crap. More zombies, I should have known the AK made so much noise. Firing wildly in the approaching hoard all while letting my blood paint the ground, I check zombie corpses for bandaids. Soda can? Pass. Pasta? Pass. .45ACP ammo? Pass. Painkillers? Pass. 6000 blood, and dropping fast. Two more zombies show up, and I end their misery. Luck strikes again, both have bandaids. Patched up, I eat some pasta and get the hell out of Dodge, running towards the forest in order to circle around Cherno and meet up with my friends. As I approach the forest, feeling ever so slightly more safe when I can touch the first tree, until I notice myself moving my hands up towards my head, feeling the loss of most of my jaw. And then nothing. I'd been shot. My run was over. The game loads, and I start... back at the airfield? With my AK? No time to ask questions, just thank the gods and run like hell - my killer is out there! I feel a bullet whirring past my head, and then another, and another. I high-tail it through the woods, seeing bullets make friends with treestumps and bushes. Maybe its the adrenaline, but this got who hit my square in the face about a minute prior is now throwing a dozen Enfield rounds my way and hitting nothing but ground. Hiding in the outskirts of Chernogorsk, I meet my comrades who hand me a few cans of beans and I immediately feel like I'm superman with my new 7000-something blood level. Finally, I feel safe again. We start planning our adventures when we see two strangers about a hundred yards down the hill. They're armed. I don't know who shoots first, us or them, all I know is that I catch a bullet in the leg and we kill both of them... and one of their friends... and another of their friends... and they just keep coming. They killed my friends. I counted seven in total, maybe there were more. In shock, with a broken leg, with blurry vision.. but at least I'm not bleeding, I start rolling/dragging myself down the hill. I think the other guys took off, or thought they killed us all, because I'm not hearing any more bullets. I spend the next 20 minutes crawling towards the closest hospital, only to realize I have no empty cans to throw at the window and for some reason, AK bullets don't break glass. Deciding to wait for my buddies to make it over from Cape Golag with some morphine, I hide out in an apartment building. Note to self: Crawling up a set of stairs with a broken leg HURTS and will put you in shock again. My vision coming in and out, sometimes barely letting me make out my weapon from the rest of the world. Holed up in the staircase, I see two guys raiding the hospital. I am at them, see them with a crowbar and a crossbow, and hope they don't notice me. One calls out "friendly?!" and I tense up. I've been here before. I've been shot by a "friendly" before, more than once. I try to sound tough "I have plenty of ammo, but my legs don't work. Got any morphine?". Maybe he'll steal my AK by bashing me across the head with a crowbar, but I've no choice - I have to trust them. He asks for ammo in exchange, I offer what little I have - none of which he wants. For sure, I'm dead, my AK will go to a murderer. Until all of a sudden, this syrupy warmth clouds around me, and the pain goes away. He fixed me, he fixed my leg! No time to think, he also dragged a few stray zombies with him. We run up the stairs and I shoot a few of them. I thank my savior and boldly ask if he'll take a blood pack from me and give me a transfusion, which he does. He says the hospital has more supplies if I need it, I thank him again. We go down stairs, I take out a few more zombies that are chasing him and his friend, and they take off. I am left with my health, my AK, and a sense of being the luckiest bastard alive in Chernarus. To the person who administered drugs and blood in my moment of need, when you could easily have taken everything from me... THANK YOU. Thank you, not just for saving my life and my gear, but thank you also for bringing back my hope in humanity. After being betrayed so many times, I was ready to shoot first and ask questions later. You helped me keep my sanity, you restored my faith and trust in the good of strangers. I hope one day, I can repay the favor.
