  1. So one of the biggest hurdles in playing DayZ is the engine. I love DayZ, from the aesthetics to the intensity. Saying that, I don’t think I’m alone when I say that Arma 2, or at least the Real Virtuality Engine, seems to be holding the game back from wacky stuff like doors opening and breaking legs to other problems like incredibly poor optimization that causes, even good machines, to run horribly. There are a lot of other engines that could be used, but the one that stands out to me is CryEngine 3, as it is free to develop on and take 20% when you release the game full. I am, by any persons standards, NOT a game developer. One thing I have done, however, is download the CryEngine 3 SDK and messed around with it. I’ve created landscapes that are larger than Chernarus and easily made forests that look amazing. The one thing I love about this engine is the versatility, ease-of-use and the real-time editing. There are things I see, being developed for CryEngine 3, that blow my mind and make me wonder how amazing a game like DayZ could be on this game. Although it might change some play styles and ways we do things, I think DayZ would be better for it. I’m not sure if Rocket has some kind of affinity for Real Virtuality, or it was just the engine he chose because it is so realism based, but I can’t imagine there is anything it can do that can’t be done in CryEngine 3. Things like real-time vegetation: Could you imagine a world where the year-long cycle lasts a 60 days? Depending on what time you play on, the world could be completely different. You could have lots of long grass to crawl through in February but by the end of March it could be a pretty barren landscape and you’d need to move differently. Vehicles are so much more immersive and take locational damage (you can pop tires, etc.) and with mods like the above (or even a simplified version) you could get very immersive and real things happening in games, rather than what we have now where you can throw a grenade at a car, it’ll explode, but the car will sit there for a few seconds until it randomly combusts. CryEngine 3 has a pretty great showcase of games that have been made on it also, which show how versatile an engine it can be. Of course, we have Crysis 1 and 2, which show how we can go from urban landscapes to forests but also we have games such as Nexuiz that are quake-like shooter games. which couldn’t be more different than Crysis was and shows that latency and hit-detection isn’t a huge issue. Even MMORPG games, which rely heavily on being able to put many players on on server and include a in-depth inventory system, are being developed such as Cabal 2, Archeage and AION. Games like Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 have a bullet cam that is very pretty. Could you imagine DayZ being able to give you replays of your kills with a bullet cam? Maybe this idea isn’t for everyone, but it’s something that could be done within the engine. So that’s my attempt at turning you guys onto CryEngine. I don’t work for CryTek or have ever communicated with them, I’ve just faffed around in the engine a little bit and have been blown away by how good it is and that even someone like me could learn how to use it without much trouble.

    Realistic interaction with vehicles.

The stand alone is going to have some ragdoll physics, rather than death animations, so this request should be covered already. With the RV engine (what Arma uses) there is always going to be a slight amount of latency, but thats part of the charm of the engine IMO.
  3. So the whole idea is that we play on Drifters server and Drifter himself spawns us in lots of gear and then we head out with the expressed intent of dying to a good squad and letting them get lots of awesome loot for their camp. We tell everyone where we are and what time and they all get on early, gear up and get in position. Makes a nice change of pace to the server, creates excitement and buzz and also makes for interesting youtube videos :)
  4. Im at work right now so cant really respond until later, but i wanted to see more discussion on this, not just from those who have a personal hatred for us. More people = more opinions.
  5. Its quite strange. In every other game, you're praised for being good, in DayZ its almost a bad quality to be good at the game or shoot at people. Never quite understood why people hate us so much. Disliking us I could understand, but a lot of people seem to froth at the mouth when our names are mentioned just because we enjoy playing the squad vs squad side of DayZ.Hell, this weekend we held a big community event on a friends server, set up a bandit camp in Polana and told people to come kill us. Admin spawned us in loads of gear and we loaded up and people attacked us. We had no intention of surviving, we just wanted a fun event where a good squad who could take us down would end up with awesome gear. We're planning on different events as well, such as an Army convoy rolling through a a "leaked" route and letting squads set up ambushes if they want to. We do lots of stuff for the community, yet we're mooks... apparently. Pretty disheartening.
  6. Not sure where you get that from, we just have similar schedules and I have fun playing with Chris. As far as it goes for killing people on Namalsk who are unarmed, we don't do it that often, but try to remember we're also live streaming and do troll gently and have a laugh with the hundreds of people who watch us. You can't take it completely seriously. JackFrags and Frankie play with a theme in mind, to help people, because people enjoy watching those kinds of videos. We've done the same thing a few times, going to the coast and killing people who are camping Cherno and Elektro but people just accuse us of killing fresh-spawns ourself, probably because of our reputation. Little do most people know, the server we play on is incredibly competitive with territories and trash-talking forums with lots of squads who are just as good as we are. So whilst Frankie and JackFrags make awesome videos, the servers they play on we nicknamed "easy mode servers" because there are very few tactical squads, lots of "bambies" and generally you're able to make a better "story" on those servers. We don't make those kinds of videos, we like playing tactically, doing call outs and the pumping adrenalin rather than roleplaying hero characters. There is a squad of about 10 people on our private hive who constantly camp Berezino (on our server Berezino is a potential fresh-spawn location like Cherno or Elektro) and we've gotten into a metric shit-tonne of fire fights there trying to stop them from doing that, as we hate that kind of play style (camping the coast and killing fresh spawns). I get that people don't like our play style, but what I don't get is the personal grudge some people have developed towards us. But, oh well. I'm gonna keep on making videos of me having fun, regardless. I've thought about making Frankie style videos, but it's not enjoyable for me, personally. In regards to accusations of stream sniping. You guys have to understand how different things go down when stream and when we don't. We get killed on streams in certain ways that NEVER happen when we don't stream. People say we jump to conclusions too often, but if you were apart of our squad and could see the drastic contrast between stream and non-stream you'd understand.
  7. Peripheral dots should be taken out of DayZ, but once they are removed they should be put to better use. Might not be possible until stand-alone, but perhaps using a "hand shake" or some other mechanic we could create a way to recognize people. With the Arma 2 engine, especially in DayZ, you can't recognize someone like you would in real life. In real life I can recognize a friend at a distance by how he walks, his body shape and hair, not just their face. Perhaps up to a certain distance (like 500 meters) and to a limited number of people (maybe 10) you could have the Peripheral dots over peoples faces (I've seen this on some servers, where every vehicle, player, zombie had a dot that wasn't restricted to the sides of your screen). I've even seen red dots for players on some servers, so maybe you could even make the dots blue for people you know very well and green for those you kind-of know? Maybe a hand shake gives you a blue dot, but being around a camp fire upgrades you to blue dot status? This would make it a lot easier during team work intensive moments, instead of hesitating constantly because you don't want to shoot your friends. Of course, it should only possible to see these dots using line-of-sight. Would be a bit much and unrealistic if you could see the dots through mountains and buildings like you can currently.
  8. You guys shouldn't be playing on name tag servers any way, they're stupid. Also, recognition is a LOT more than just a character skin in real life, its also about the way they walk, body shape etc. And unless Rocket gives everyone their own running and walking animations, we won't have a reliable way of instantly recognizing friends. It might sound unrealistic, but its more realistic than what we have now. It's not meant to be perfect, but simulate us being able to recognize people who are otherwise unrecognisable because of the limitations of the game.
  9. Just some stuff that happened to me in the North, playing on a private hive with a few custom weapons.
  10. A lot of these probably cannot be implemented until the stand alone, but lets brain storm! So right now, if you're hit by a zombie and in pain, your character uncontrollably shakes until you use painkillers. Personally, in a zombie apocalypse where everyone is either trying to eat me or kill me, I'd be shaking a hell of a lot. Heck, this game makes my hands shake already. I personally think that the "shake" should be put to better use and not so easily curable. Being hurt should make you shake, but also simply being shot at or when you aggravate a larger number of zombies should induce the same effect. Being dehydrated should cause you to lose focus and slow you down. As you begin to become more and more dehydrated, your vision should become tunnelled so you lose peripheral dots and actually lose a lot of your screen. You'll know when you need to drink because of the dark border that slowly creeps onto your screen. Becoming hungry or even starving should effect you significantly as well. The more hungry you get, the lower your max blood should be. You'd literally have to constantly eat to have 12000 blood all the time. I know it doesn't make too much sense that your blood would decrease if you don't eat, but being hungry means you can't take pain as well, so perhaps as the hungrier you are, the more everything hurts. I also think that if you are red-flashing on dehydration or hunger, you should lose the ability to be able to aim down your sights so it becomes hip-fire only and you get the shakes like you would if you are hurt. I think anti-biotics should play a bigger role in the game. Sickness is important and a good mechanic. Being sick should only allow your hunger and thirst to fill up to 50% and your chances of being knocked down should double. Zombies in this game have been a weird thing. They're either too annoying or too easy. Thing is, right now we're just playing with the running speed and awareness variables of zombies. They should have other mechanics that make them scary, such as zombies that are not mobile, slumped against a wall that can catch you off guard by leaping at you. One idea I've had is to be grabbed by zombies, needing a friend to shoot the zombie off of you before you can run again. You can drag the zombie, but only at walking speeds. So you can't let zombies get too close, otherwise you might not get them off of you. I think things like smoke and bottles smashing against walls should distract zombies more effectively than they do right now for this to become effective. There needs to be more ways to avoid zombies and lure them away from you. I wouldn't mind special types of zombies either, but not in the Left 4 Dead sense. Zombies that scream when they see you, which amounts to the same thing as firing an Enfield in the middle of Cherno... you'll get the hoard coming down on you very quickly if those zombies see you and scream. Most of all though, I think there should be less loot everywhere and more decent loot (like food or equipment) on zombies bodies. Right now there is usually more loot than I can carry or find useful, such as food and water and even backpacks. Getting a decent backpack in the game is a big thing, but right now you can get an Alice Pack and not even think much of it because they're so frequent. Reduce the amount of loot in civilian areas, force players to constantly have to stock up to survive, because if they don't keep themselves hydrated or fed, then when they come across that survivor they want to kill, they'll have a hard time. Then it becomes a more interesting game, do I keep this AKM in my back pack to compliment my sniper rifle, or do I take food and water I will desperate need later on?
  11. Hi there! I have 2 cd keys/accounts for Operation Arrowhead, which I use exclusively for DayZ. One of them has been banned with the reason #2e8b and the other is fine. I can't find any information on this code, but its been banned for a while now. I'm a youtuber and streaming and my viewers have watched me play hours and hours of gameplay without scripting or hacking, so I have quite a large number of people who can attest to my non-cheating ways. I don't even disconnect during battles! Any help?

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

    The ignorance is astounding.
  13. So for those who don't know, my squad and I are all youtubers and we loved this mod. Sacriel, DaSquirrelsNuts, Fhrope and myself all loved playing, taking out other squads in the North and generally having a blast. We all took up streaming as well as creating videos for our youtube channels, because people seemed to really, really enjoy the experience of watching us and how serious we took the game. We aren't the type of players who ever go south with geared characters and try to take out noobs, nor do stay away from trouble, we actively sought it out and fought against squads who were better geared than us and had better positioning than us and often came out on top, despite some cuts and bruises. Streaming is its own challenge. With the type of game DayZ is, if someone knows what server you are playing on, they can pretty much end that character instantly, meaning we had to go through a lot of hurdles in order to keep the server name secret. But that is neither here nor there. I just spent the last 2 hours playing, after taking a long break from DayZ because of how frustrating stream sniping had become. Was in the middle of nowhere, trying to meet my friends at Stary and had just left a deer stand. I was decked out with a decent character, lots of medical supplies and even an M16 + M203 attachment. Was feeling pretty good, until I heard suppressed bullets hit the ground around me and a bandit appears behind me (on top of me, almost). I say I'm friendly, don't shoot back, and he stops and I talk to him but he doesn't say much. I ask him if he needs any medical supplies, he says no and I go on my way... until my leg breaks and I'm down to 7000 health. So I turn around, through the grass, pump 4+ Stanag mags into him and 4-5 M1911 mags. Nothing. Then comes a direct comms message in the bottom left: "What are you trying to achieve?" At that point I knew I was wasting my time and he throws a grenade at me; the end. Right now, its almost impossible to play properly. Sacriel and myself aren't really interested any more and I can't see this game going on for much longer if this keeps up. I loved DayZ because it was so harsh! Death was a real thing, it sucked if you died, really sucked but now you can't really do anything without dying. No wonder so many people abuse this game via duplicating, server hopping in barracks or DCing when in combat. So for me, DayZ isn't the game it used to be, and I hope I'll still be interested when the stand alone is released. But what about you, how do you deal with the script kids and hackers? I'm interested if I'm just getting more encounters like this by sheer chance or if everyone is experiencing the same thing.
  14. I really like playing DayZ, but knowing its only a matter of time before I get killed by a cheater and, even if I don't, knowing that no one goes North any more because of the surplus of weapons... its just saddening.

    Spawning Scenarios

So one of the biggest issues for beginners getting ganked. It isn't fun and no one likes it, but because everyone spawns on the south coast, Elektro and Cherno (possibly Berezino) are too tempting not to go loot first. My idea is to expand the possible spawn areas and starting gear based on a scenario spawn system. In my ideal world, the further North you go, the more militarized the zombies get. These soldiers are wearing very protective gear, to protect against infected, so shooting them in the body will only cause them to stop running for a short time (1-2 seconds) and headshots are the only way to take them down. So as you move North, they gradually become a larger threat. There should be 4 different types of scenarios: Military, Resident, Woodland and Shipwreck. Military scenario spawns will place you somewhere in the North west of the map, near a deer stand, and you start with only an M9 pistol with 1 magazine and binoculars and no backpack. Zombies are very tough up here, but you are close enough to hit up the NWA or Stary Sobor for weapons. However, you could be killed by Bandits quite easily, as the Wild North is not a friendly place. As an ex military, you will be wearing a black vest with camo trousers, you are not protected against the elements and can get cold quickly, meaning you need to gear up and quickly find a hospital for anti-biotics if the weather is bad. The Resident scenario will spawn you outside ANY named town on the map. You start with a Patrol pack Matches, Painkillers, a flash light, 3 cans of food and a canteen of water. As a resident, you grabbed your coat before leaving so food, water and warmth aren't an issue, but survival gear and weapons are. The Woodland scenario is a spawn that will help those who want to purely survive. You will wake up in the woods anywhere on the map (generally the middle). You spawn with an Czech Backpack, Crossbow with 3 bolts, an empty canteen, a knife, a hatchet and matches, enough to keep you alive for now. Light clothing means you will be fine as long as weather stays mild, but you can build fires to stay warm. Lastly the Shipwreck scenario is the most familiar. You swim ashore with your Assault Pack, compass, map and a GPS.. Your swimming attire that doesn't provide much protection, but will keep you warm and out of sight against other players. Whilst the Military scenario might seem an obvious choice, surviving against bandits and zombies with 1 magazine makes it a very risky spawn. Residents have the chance of spawning near a store or even somewhere close to a military based themselves. Woodland spawners have good gear, but no idea where they are, whereas Shipwreck spawns will have excellent navigation, but are otherwise helpless. To me this fixes the problem of players going south to gank fresh spawns and also adds variety. Ideas, thoughts or suggestions? This was just a rough idea, I'm not suggesting these should absolutely be the only scenarios, but it gives you a rough idea of what I'm thinking.
  16. oshi7

    No stary competition.

There is no more incentive to go North. You can get good gear by killing scripters on the hillsides over Cherno and Elektro and, because they're doing it, most other people will assume the same thing. Survival needs to be ramped up. The game needs to be developed. Killing players should be something you do sparingly, to conserve limited ammo (which is in a huge surplus even without scripting) and becoming injured should lower your max blood, so the risk of getting shot or bitten would be greater unless you can get the proper, and very rare medical equipment. DayZ is too easy, despite being one of the harshest games out.

    Spawning Scenarios

I think this would be good for various reasons, but the more I watch and play DayZ the more I realize people just camp the coast. I think having spawn scenarios that spread people out over the map actually gives people a chance to have incredibly different adventures each time they respawn, rather than going through the motions of spawning on the coast. I really hope Rocket sees this.
  18. I've talked about this with my friends a lot, as there are issues with DayZ that we think could be easily solved by going to a WW2 setting. Most of them are obvious, such as L85A2 Thermal spotting being an instant-win in a lot of fire fights, taking away from the spirit of the game and anti-materiel rifles being used against people that result in 1-shot kills anywhere on the body. By going to a WW2 scenario, not only would it explain why there are weapons everywhere, but you could even include tanks and other military vehicles without it seeming strange. Weapon spawns would make sense, as there is a war going on and sniper rifles, whilst still being very good, wouldn't be the PvP instant-win as almost all would be bolt-action and have relatively poor optics. To me, setting DayZ during WW2 1944 makes a lot of sense. You get rid of the powerful, and possibly unbalanced, non-sense and it comes back down to tactics, awareness and movement. It opens the game up for more possibilities and "cool stuff" like an incredibly rare luger drop or possibly even bayonets for when you run out of bullets. Hell, even flame throwers were used in WW2. Badass.

    Spawning Scenarios

Well, I hope that more end-game will be added, which is why I wasn't too worried about giving out a little bit of gear as a starter. Finding gear and getting ready doesn't take long at all, by preventing people from having binocs or a decent backpack you're only delaying them by about 10-15 minutes. In the mean while, with dogs, bases and much more (hopefully) coming starter gear won't be as big of a deal.

    Spawning Scenarios

Like I said, they are just rough ideas, I don't think it would be a huge thing if they never spawned with the GPS.
  21. Unfortunately that doesn't cut it any more. Rocket and Bohemia are selling us the game DayZ on the premise that we're enjoying the mod DayZ. If the mod tanks and people start getting bored with it because of hackers and being unable to play properly, then the game will not do well. Its getting to the point where Rocket should probably consider closing down the mod, taking the central hive offline and do nothing but work on the stand alone exclusively.
  22. That game play is from 2 weeks ago, dont expect much more content since we aren't able to get any interesting footage.

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

Saw some screenshots of a game called Russia 2028 on the CryDev.net forums. It's not the same visual style as DayZ, but shows how you can use this engine to make highly tense scenes http://www.crydev.net/viewtopic.php?f=353&t=65563&start=585 NW Airfield would be even scarier ;) "I hear shots!" Get those bandits!

    CryEngine 3 - Possible?

If CryZ was made, I'd play it for sure. Even if it was at medium settings, it would be so much more impressive, especially with such terrain variation. Imagine mountains in DayZ, or a desert or... well... anything. You could set up camp in the mountains, but need warm clothes to survive up there so its semi-protected from noobs stumbling upon it etc.
