Sound should only attract zombies to a location, no aggro. Like throwing a whiskey bottle and it smashes, a zombie doesn't immediately run there, he turns and investigates. Only sight should aggro I believe, so when moving through towns, if you crouch walk or crawl, you generate no sound (at least nothing a zed would be interested in) and if you do make a sound, it will cause zombies to walk in your direction. Even if they walked a bit faster when attracted to sound, that would be fine. Would also make tin cans and whiskey bottles much more useful.

As awesome as this is, its infuriating how badly made Arma 2 is. -

I did enjoy sneaking around towns in 1.6. Felt more intense and you sort of had to plan your way through. It was engaging, you had to scan everywhere for zombies and what way they were walking and plan a route through them whilst also on the look out for other players, who were far more deadlier than the zombies (like it should be, like it is in every zombie film). Attracting zombies from incredibly far away, their stupid running animations and path finding just take me out of the game, force me to waste ammo and reveal my location and it just ends up being an aggro spiral where fighting off the zeds who saw you causes more from even further away to run at you in awkward ways. There is no way a zombie 2 blocks down and around a corner would know exactly where a gunshot came from, it should just attract them like it does when you throw a can or bottle. I know its an alpha, but the fact is if people aren't enjoying it, they'll resent the mod and never come back. You can shout "ALPHA ALPHA" all day, players dont give a shit, they just want it to be fun and 1.6 was fun and stable (somewhat). -
Exactly the same thing. Getting 40-50fps and suddenly drops to 8fps no matter what setting I change or where I look. i7 950 Bloomfield GTX 560Ti 6GB RAM Windows 7

Everyone keeps on going on about alpha testing. Developing in an alpha stage is ironing out the core mechanics of the game (zombie movement, detection, server/client syncing etc.) not adding stuff like hatchets for melee and end up breaking everything. Unfortunately for Rocket he ended up with a popular mod too early, if it were just being tested by a small group on one server then this would have been awesome to play as a beta with everything a bit smoother. Right now the mod is trying to run before it can walk. I honestly had more fun in 1.6 than any other game. I've not really enjoyed this mod since 1.7. Thing is, if it keeps on like this, eventually people will tire and the buzz the mod has generated will die down because people will become frustrated by playing more than anything else. There needs to be more than one person on this mod and it needs some private testing before releasing to the public. I seriously think he should roll back to 1.6 and then privately test the newer patches on one server with select people.

I really, really miss DayZ 1.6. Was such a fun game. Ever since 1.7 has come along, I've had a hard time enjoying DayZ. It's become more about constantly shooting zombies until you run out of ammo and then just dying. You spawn in new and rather than going slow, watching zombies and sneaking around them, you're just constantly running likes its the opening of 28 weeks later. Nothing about starter weapons or any of that stuff bothers me, its the zombie aggro that has pretty much ruined the game for me. Rocket seems more intent on adding 'stuff' than developing the core gameplay; such as Zombies warping through walls, smacking you through walls, seeing through walls or even the zombie movements being so unpredictable to weird that it actually takes you out of the game, because they can run faster than any human ever could. I really love this mod, but right now its tedium makes me not want to play. -
Date/Time: 18 June @ 11pm What happened: I was at NW airfield and noticed that even though I was crouch jogging I had a audible and visual level of zero, which was rather odd. Got up sprinted, still zero. Ran near a single zombie, didn't even notice me. I could still see my friends crawling, could still see loot and run into buildings but my gear menu was also bugged (like I was holding page up, because as I clicked on an item, the selection would just go back to the top of the list constantly). Then, all of a sudden, it was on maximum everything and wouldn't go away no matter what. Aggro from everywhere, even whilst prone and stationary. Logged out, logged back in and I was way back from the Fire Station where the bug first happened. I can only assume my client and the server stopped talking/updating each other at some point? Where you were: NW Air Field What you were doing: Moving around in various stances, looting the air field *Current installed version: 1.7.1.1 *Server(s) you were on: DE26 *Your system specs: i7 950 GTX 560 Ti 6GB RAM *Timeline of events before/after error: Had to log out each time and log back in, resulting in spawning (I assume) at when the bug began.

Never had this problem before today, but I was at NW airfield and noticed that even though I was crouch jogging I had a audible and visual level of zero, which was rather odd. Logged out, logged back in and I was way back from the Fire Station where the bug first happened. I can only assume my client and the server stopped talking/updating each other at some point? Was quite weird. Happened again, caused me to lose 2 blood bags of a player we killed, was not happy :(

So after playing yesterday for about 12 hours with some friends, I downloaded the new 1.7.1 and beta r76 patch today using Six Updater. I launch the game and, because I'm running Dxtory, I notice on the main menu I'm getting around 5fps! Bare in mind, yesterday I was getting 60+ in the wilds and around 30-40 in cities. i7 950 6GB RAM GTX 560Ti 1GB I can't imagine its my PC, as it was fine all of yesterday. Now, the frame rate is unplayable to a massive degree. I closed Arma2 and checked what programs I was running, close a bunch down and loaded up again, but this problem persists. Any help?

The new zombies are a little out of control. It's absolutely immersion breaking when a zombie starts charging you when you're just sitting there doing nothing in a forest, there is no way most of its body is rotted and its eyes are significantly improved. Before it was difficult, you had to manage the zombies and use crawling and crouch walking to get around them, staying out of the line of vision but able to do what needed to be done. It was difficult because you had to expose yourself to get around Zeds, which would mean you risk being seen by other players. For me, the #1 threat should always been the players and the zombies are there to fuck with that, lower your health and reveal your position to everyone else. Right now the zombies just make the game irritating and unappealing. It feels like the patch was released just for the sake of releasing a patch. Also, one thing that would be amazing is to mouse wheel over someone and be able to choose an option titled "Trust", which would stop the heartbeat sound from happening when you mouse over them. Its pretty annoying after a while with a bandit in your squad.

He said he didn't want to wait a week and just bought another cd key. He wasn't even sure if he was banned, just couldn't connect and immediately went for ban evasion by getting a new cd key. This isn't right, as the DayZ team banned HIM and not his CD key. -
Friend of mine made a very good installation guide for DayZ using Six Updater, which keeps everything up to date for you and, once set up, is probably the easiest way to install the mod.
