LU159 Admin keeping server private

What you cannot do, however, is to restrict the server to your clan only. The gameplay of DayZ involves conflict between survivors as well as zombies, and restricting a server to a single clan would take away this aspect of the gameplay. It would also allow the clan to farm gear without risking interference from other players, which would give them an unfair advantage. hosting a DayZ server only means that you host a DayZ server. Buy a server, break the rules, ask for a refund. Smart. Enjoy your wasted money, ban, and being laughed at by the rest of the community, -
Which is better; installing DayZ manually, or using the Six Updater?
Ganksterr replied to Simu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
if i use the 6 updater does it beta patch automatically? -
If you have an empty glass bottle like a whiskey bottle or something you should be able to equip it, smash it, and use your broken bottle as a weapon.

Combining flashlights with weapons?
Ganksterr replied to johan (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Duct tape would be a really cool addition. Not only could you tape lights to guns but you could make dual mags and other cool stuff. -
It is a simulation of a zombie attack. Also, a game can be a simulation and vice versa. See Arma II.
-
Feral dogs are dangerous, yes. I would count them as domesticated animals though, seeing as they have probably had an owner at one point and the species have been bred by humans.
-
Combined Ops (Arma 2 + Operation arrowhead) is 40% off in steam right now. I'd buy it in the next 24hours while it's still on sale.
-
Generators running off gasoline is the only way I could see lighting being realistic.

Ridiculous. as someone who lives in an area with some of the highest bear population worldwide, the only bear attack I have ever heard of was on a guy who lived with bears for 13 years and frequently touched/petted them. Bears are neither aggressive nor dangerous.
-
I know arguing for realism in a zombie game sounds stupid, but if a zombie attack happened, this is an accurate simulation of what it would be like. I would feel some of that realism taken away by wolf attacks.

I've heard of two cougar attacks in the last 10 years, none by wolves, one by a bear. And this was from a guy who lived with bears for over 13 years, and frequently touched them. Wild animals are almost never aggressive towards humans. The only animal attacks towards humans in this area are from wild animals who were frequently fed by tourists or had their habitat invaded. Every attack I've heard of was provoked or at the fault of humans in some other way. Up north more and more Polar Bears are having to be put down because they are becoming tame and accustomed to humans by living off garbage or similar stuff (this is because they are being forced south by the polar ice caps melting through global warming). I have come within 20 feet of wolves and bears a few times each, known many people who have been as close to a cougar. But I've never had any fear towards a wild animal. On the other hand, I've been attacked by a dog twice, as have many of my friends, one of them has been bitten in the eye by a horse, I know a few people who have suffered concussions or broken ribs from cow/horse/mule kicks, and know many people who have been attacked by other domesticated animals including turkeys, peacocks, llamas, and alpacas. Wild animals are not dangerous. Domesticated ones are.

Obviously, the game is in Alpha so I won't bother adressing bugs, only actual issues. 1. Server hopping. Disconnecting from a server just before/after someone shoots you so that you don't die. How to solve: Instadeath if you disconnect within 30 seconds of taking damage or within 30 seconds of having shots fired within X meters. 2. Excessive player killing. Killing people for fun rather than loot/spawn camping. I don't see this as a problem but hey, you probably want to attract a larger audience, which sadly includes noobs. You could either have players spawn with pistols if they were PKd or if they didn't PK in their last life. 3. Co op play. Spawning on the opposite end of the map from your friend. I find this game to be much more fun co op than solo, I think it would be cool if you could choose an area of the coast to spawn on so that you and a friend could team up more easily from the very start without spending an hour running across the map dodging bullets and zombies just to team up together. 4. Hackers. Hackers. Eh, I dunno, no warning permabans are a GREAT start, possibly just put in a report option, the players who get reported the most get spectated/followed and banned if they are hacking?

Um... what? Wolves, who hunt weak/injured herbavores and who are regularly hunted by, and therefore scared of humans are less aggressive than dogs who are specifically trained to be aggressive towards humans? Yeah, I'd rather be attacked by a dog than a wolf, but which one am I more likely to be attacked by? Compare ~5 wolf attacks worldwide over the last 25 years to the thousands of people who are hospatalized each day IN THE US ALONE. These are recorded statistics and don't even include countries that have higher feral dog population or the attacks that don't require hostpatalization or on people who can't afford it.
-
Wolves don't attack people. As someone who lives in BC and sees wolves regularly they never, ever attack humans. Over the last 10 or so years there have only been a couple wolf attacks worldwide, and all of these were due to starvation. Having them hunt players in packs, especially with hundreds deer, boars, and slow, easy to hunt zombies running around is just ridiculous.

Possible answer to player killing balance.

Go player hunting. -
Restarting/locking the server due to anything besides patch/server issues will get you banned. Passwording or banning/kicking for any reason other than explicit cheating will do the same. Don't act so cocky, you payed some money for a server, this doesn't make you god.

FIRST OFF: PvP is part of this game, if you don't like it then you should go find the latest Barbie/Dora release. Killing you is not "trolling." It's a part of the game. If you think paying for a server should give you an advantage over players without admin rights then you are sadly mistaken. SECOND OFF: There are RULES that you need to adhere to when renting a server. If you decide to rent a server without reading the rules first that is nobody's fault but your own. "But officer I didn't read the sign!" will NOT get you out of a speeding ticket. Enjoy your bans.
