It's great that the community developers don't want to just abandon all of those supporters that bought Arma 2 just to play DayZ, but it also sort of sucks that we have to "choose" between the standalone version and the mod and split the community. I'm sure the population on both will be pleasant but I can't help but think that the mod won't live up to what the standalone version will offer. The standalone version seems that it will be very fairly and well priced (BIS and Rocket know that a LOT of people bought Arma 2 just to play DayZ), so I'd hope that DayZ players do decide to fork out cash again to get the benefits of the standalone version.

Bump, I'm getting this too. My DayZ works fine though.

Rocket, do you have any sort of donation system in place yet? I'd suggest something like "donate $20 and we'll mail you an autographed DayZ poster" or something like that, maybe give us some exclusive access to early patch testing. Very reasonable donation with a good incentive to encourage people to donate. I'm sure plenty of people will donate more than $20 to support the cause, and even if only a handful of people donate every month, that is still a few hundred dollars to at least REDUCE your costs. I'd start sooner rather than later, when the cost and labor requirements begin to increase. Just look at how quickly the mod has taken off and become popular; you're certain to get donations right away and you have nothing to lose by trying to ask for some. Eventually, when you know whether the mod is headed towards a standalone release for sale, you can say "Pre-order for $40 and get access to the final closed beta before release along with X autographed item or special game item."

Lol, I agree with the "he should die for quitting like a little bitch," but shame on you. You should have known when he was offering you so much free stuff that he was friendly. There still ARE friendly players around :)

[GUIDE] Day Z Amazon/Retail Version installation guide [VIDEO] $15
Stealth Pyro replied to nipperson's topic in New Player Discussion
I may be late to this topic, but I disagree on it "screwing over" BI. Didn't Amazon already buy the game from BI at a set price? Last I remember, retailers buy their games from the publishers at a price, and mark them up accordingly. Whether Amazon is profiting at $15 or not, BI had to have sold these copies to Amazon already. The sale price from retailer to customer shouldn't affect BI, Steam being an exception since Valve collects an actual commission per sale. Even then, think of it this way: many weren't going to fork out $30 for Arma 2 CO. BI is much better off collecting $15 from these folks than nothing. :D -
A How-To on properly joining servers and minimize chances of fail for everybody

^ ? I wasn't QQing, but thanks. I've only died 3 times or so in this game, but I'd simply respawn as much as I need when I do die :). I was simply making a suggestion that giving everyone the option of spawning in a general region that they want would lessen the strain on the server from them suiciding multiple times to spawn where they wanted. Without such spawn option, they're simply going to suicide and respawn as much as they feel fit regardless. The idea makes perfect logical sense. -
+1 on the above, great creativity you have there. It would be very nice to have some sort of class-like system. It would encourage more people to be friendly rather than bandits, since they are more likely to survive if they have a medic at their side, or an engineer to fix up their ride and set up a base. Nothing stops them from killing them after they got what they need, however. ;) I think 5 minutes is a bit long and more on the surreal side. The defibrillator is used in an emergency situation and must be used in response to a dead player very quickly, much like the Battlefield games work. This would mean your teammates have to work quickly to secure the area around you and get you back up. I agree that you should have to perform a blood transfusion, I'd say that should be done after the defibrillator. The defib would get the person's heart going, which would leave them in a low-blood passed out state with the player looking at an hourglass. You would have a minute to perform the transfusion which would then get them some blood and get them up. I also agree that the defib should take up a "special item" slot rather than one of your regular slots, though I feel it should take up two, implying one slot for each paddle.

I posted this in another suggestion thread but came across this wishlist thread which is likely to get more attention from the moderators/developers, so I'm posting my opinion here as well. I like the idea of defibrillators. There is such thing as solar powered defibrillators, so that can be used as the power source. If implemented into DayZ I would propose that they should have a 1-shot emergency charge or something, and you must be in direct sunlight for X amount of time for them to recharge. You would also have to get to the downed player within a minute or two of them seeing the "You're Dead" message. If the player already respawned, you obviously can't revive them. Great idea overall.

Sorry but I have to disagree with the "don't suicide to respawn at a different location." I'm not going to spend 40 minutes to get to my friend's location (or longer considering bandits WILL kill you) when I can respawn twice and spawn 2 minutes away. What difference does it make if I get killed 4 times by a bandit and respawn anyways, versus just respawning once or twice to get closer to my friends? There should be some sort of ability to spawn where we want. Not an exact location of course, but maybe a general region such as SW, SE, NE, etc... This would make playing with friends a much more tolerable experience. You know people are going to just suicide repeatedly to spawn where they want, so why not just take the preventative measure and reduce the stress on the server by coming up with a way to choose spawn location? I'm aware it may be a limitation in the mod's current stages of course. :) -
First kill... hated it :( Thanks the devs!

My latest story to share: I play together with 2 friends (now have a new 3rd, making 4 total). Sometimes one of us can't play, so the others explore and try to double back to a halfway point so we can keep up with each other. We've managed that pretty well. So, one of my friends and I trotted to the north for the first time, Zelenogorsk/Drozhino area, eventually making it to Vybor. My friend and I split up to the school (I think it's a school) and convenience store to scavenge and shout out what we find to each other. While in the convenience store, I saw a bandit running through the streets. He looked at me, probably thought I didn't see him, and slowly crept to cover behind a car in front of the store. I announced his presence to my friend, and told him to keep quiet and get in position on the school's roof. I told him not to fire yet, and to just keep an eye on him while I figure out how to get out of the store quietly through one of the side doors. I went ahead and did that, looped around the back of the adjacent building, and had a great flank on the bandit from his rear-right, though with a car blocking my path. I didn't want to simply run around the car nor shoot him from that distance, so I gave my friend the go ahead to fire a pistol round or two in his direction (he was well behind a destroyed hummer, so he couldn't simply kill him himself). The bandit immediately dropped into a prone, which is where I saw my perfect window to move in on him. I had my friend just fire a single round at him every 3 seconds to keep him busy and overpower the sound of my footsteps. The bandit still managed to hear me between the shots apparently, and he went into a crouch and turned to face me. He then started backing up, but lo and behold, he was getting hit by my friend and dropped to the ground (passed out with hourglass). I stepped over his body, paused for a few seconds, and destroyed his face with 2 shots from my Enfield, execution style. He said in the chat that all he saw was my face at the end of the barrel for a few seconds, he was expecting a gunshot, and then my delayed shot made him jump out of his seat. Dude had so much good stuff, we even have a tent set up now thanks to him. Even though it was a bandit, I felt bad for the poor fella. We gangbanged him from both sides and he had absolutely no chance to fight back nor even escape. -

Meanwhile, since chernarus is not in russia, but rather closer in simile to georgia, it is closer to around 41-71 during the day time, depending on season. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography_of_Georgia_%28country%29#Climate Wat? The image in the very link you posted shows it is just below Russia... -
