DayZ is the greatest game ever made
Traveler (DayZ) replied to ColdAtrophy's topic in General Discussion
The only thing with the potential to spoil the game is us, the community. Most things adressed/criticized here are currently being addressed by the developers. The fact that they take 1-2 yrs to make an entirely new engine speaks for itself. It is the bunch of haters who KOS newspawns on the coast for the lulz and who post negative, non-constructive bullshit here and on social media that make it not-so-great at times. -
DayZ is the greatest game ever made
Traveler (DayZ) replied to ColdAtrophy's topic in General Discussion
The game is okay atm, it could be better, but it is slowly and steadily on its way. They have gone to the lenghts of updating the engine, what Dean Hall said would take too long to accomplish. We are in a very good situation now: There are still the mod and the mods of the mod around, there are other survival games out there for the change, and when all is said and especially done here we'll come back to the one and only. While this game is not the best ever made by a long stretch porobably, it has shaped my gaming habits and influenced my life like none other has and probably noe other ever will! -
Rarest Loot (Experienced Looters)
Traveler (DayZ) replied to punkvegita's topic in General Discussion
I would say the Silencers are the hardest to find. I haven't even seen one, even after picking up the habit of crashsite searching pretty effectively. The suppressor (east), too...I currently have one on my AK101, along with that thing we found a PSO1 scope (two-amn squad, approx 75+ barracks on multiple servers over 3 days, plus 25+ crashsites). What is really hard-to-find: - the Smersh Vest (not the backpack) - Mags for the AK74 - Steyr Aug (only find M4s, but am cool with my AK101 anyways) - all the mags for pitols, aside from the makarov...especially the M1911! (gun is around plenty, though) other items like the high-capacity vest ae not so rare I would say. Rarer than in the past in my experience is the - Mosin (only slightly) - goddamn mags for goddamn sporter (who uses this anyway?) - protector case...have found ONE while finding about a dozen mags for AK101 and M4 in the time frame... too much since last patch: - the damn SKS! Found 10 (TEN in words) while running from Berezino to NWAF looting. TEN!! And only 20 shots... -
I keep having a crash issue that appeared first with this update. Either the game freezes and I have to ctrl+alt+tab out, or I get thrown on the desktop "DayZ not working anymore". I haven't read anýthing about it here, noone seems to have the same issue...maybe I should make a report...but I cannot reproduce the circumstances....updated my drivers...to no avail. dammit dayZ, why U Alpha, why U no work? :-(

Why no 24h-cycle servers with nighttime ?
Traveler (DayZ) replied to Spidey (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Yes, this....it is always sunny in CHernarus! Dammit I found a nighttime-only server, on which I play more than on daytime servbers. mostly only 5-15 peopüle on, though. sad!! -
The challenge and saga of Zombie Pathfinding
Traveler (DayZ) replied to SmashT's topic in News & Announcements
Dammit, fainally at elast word form the devs. I was expecting this...or part of it. Actually going the right way, moving to 64bit architecture, improving on engine and backend, this will set the framework for what the game can be. And should be. Right now, many people are waiting for the game to improve. Some gamebreaking bugs have to go! Then everyone will be back, enjoying themselves, feeding themselves rotten karps or beating each other with wooden sticks. Awesome! -
Arma3 Third person fix mod...thoughts?
Traveler (DayZ) replied to OrLoK's topic in General Discussion
Play on hardcore server, problem solved. A fried of mine asked "Why is this called hardcore?", I told him: "because you cannot use 3rd person view here". He said "Who uses 3rd person view??" So to have an actual playstyle experience with bad, bad firefight situations, play hardcore. And live and die like a man. -
Overall opinions on the SA so far?
Traveler (DayZ) replied to beavis_5000's topic in General Discussion
Hmm so far a bit disappointed. I hope they can fix most of this, as was "promised" in the latest devblog. 1) They haven't fixed the shitty "animals make zombie noises" or random soda-popping or reloading sounds bug. This makes intent listening for anything useless. 2) The Zombies still run through houses, and are overall still completely effed up. 3) Mechanics are still very clunky. I press the "2" key so my character would whip out his SKS...nothing happens. I press it again. The character jerks around, puts it out, puts it away, puts it out again. In a firefight, prepare to be completely fucked by the controls. Over and over (I now leave my gun in my hand whereever player encounter are likely). 4) The basic survival stuffs still don't work. No animals to hunt, no fireplaces to make. Why not have that in right away? WHy not stick with a simple system for the time being and upgrade it to a new level later? But have the damn feature in!? 5) Weather conditions are in the game now, but have no consequence whatsoever (ok, you cannot make a fire to warm up atm anyway...) and the "soaked" status disapperars with relogging...also, a helmet and raincoat won't do crap for me. wtf? 6) What happened to some features that were promised? Like only limping with a splinted leg? 7) All the buildings can be entered now, but only about 40% of them actually do spawn loot. The klast ujpdate must have ruined the spawntables BADLY! ... -
Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Traveler (DayZ) replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
I DON'T WANT TO DEFEND THE CURRENT ZOMBIES. I acknowledge they are piece of shit. They spawn directly at you, in sight of you, on top of you. The run and lag around like in the mod. The only thing is...they don't twitch around like an epileptic anymore. But given the current low number how else will you make them a threat. AND Zeds in the mod HAD been runners, so why expect it to be otherwise here? God, I would like to see 5x more of them, but made actually to work like they should: Not being able to see through house's walls, let alone run through them. Not trigger on you when you are more than 100 m away, from the horizon. Making sneaking around them (at least in the beginning where you have no axe) a must. But alas, the say it is Alpha. Will it EVER be Beta? Or final? We will see. edit: Friggin' Zombie ate my leather jacket!! dafuq?? read your posts about it, and it happened to me, too. They seem to be damaging ONLY the chestpieces, rucksack, and jacket. My pants only went to worn after probably 10 Zed-hits...it has been stated that they now mostly attack the chest area, though. Keep your stuffs in yo pants, bro! -
Literally what I don't get, ever, are the amount of assholes who vigorously defend their KoS-playstyle as the norm. There are many players who haven't played the game for so long that they consider the only thing worth doing to be hunting other players...doesn't matter if they are armed or not. But back to OP's complaint: the groups are always a menace for a single player. With or withoput ingame voice does not make much of a difference, as man players are inept at communicating anyways. That might also be the reason why some loners here claim to have shot a whole squad...happened to me too. One of the squad shoots the other - friendly fire - then the others panick and run around - one more gets shot...etc. Teamplay takes practice. Literally every single person I have played with so far has been like OP: Gearing up in a way they would describe as careful - approaches I usually only would take with a freshspawned character - and getting killed at random later on. The annoying thing is then: Other players being invisible/wallhacking/cheating. There is much to condemn here, this way and that, about the game itself, about the people who play it. But the guys defending "KoS" as the only legit way to play are a pest.

TIL: Never ever trust anybody, no matter how nice they seem
Traveler (DayZ) replied to Maselko's topic in General Discussion
The same thread over and over. If you start mistrusting everyone because of one or even a few bad situations, you a) don't know shit about people, and b) are maybe a whiny, overly trusting idiot, and c) will become one of those KoS-assholes you did not trust in the first place. All BS. Play the game as you see fit, mind that most other players are jerks, and move on. -
I came here to state that OP's opinion is a pile of BS. I don't know where you all ghet geared completely in 45 minutes, I can only guess axing a player with a gun, gunning another player with a rifle and BOOM. If you want to loot on a high pop server finding a fully upgraded M4 or a Mosin with scope took me >3 hrs everytime. I found plenty of ammo and more health supplies than I could ever carry, but I don't hear anyone complaining about this. Guns are pretty scarce. And the don't make up ALL your gear. I value my gear a a complete package: with compass, canteens, disinfection tablets (the DID ad CHolera...maybe I am panicking), rags and bandages, morphine sticks, epipens, bags of rice, a nice backpack, an axe...all these things have to be looted...I see people running around with a gun "woohoo I have it all the gear woohoo!" (just look at the let's plays on youtube...character starving while trying to snipe someone...oh my!). But that's not it, folks. God, I hope they add Cholera and other diseases...make it about survival. and zombies. and desperate attempts at beating them, while attempting to not die to other players...goddamn...

Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
Traveler (DayZ) replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
Guys, the Zeds are surely completely fzúcked right now, yes. But: 1) The respawning mechanics most people complain about is a preliminary one, and will be replaced once it is fully worked out. That has been in the patchnotes, and Dean has stated this. 2) I like that they made them a threat. Point made. ? Yes, it is kinda retarded...especially while 3) Zeds still run through a house's walls! And they see you and trigger on you while inside. So everytime you hear a Zombie scream while inside, you have to run outside (as fighting inside will get you hit as there's not enough space to ecade), axe the Zed in the leg, and then go on looting, hoping you don't trigger the next... The Zombies in DayZ hAVE ALWAYS BEEN RUNNERS...if you don't like fast Zeds, why did you get into DayZ? Did you not know the mod? o0 This is the last complaint I can understand. -
Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251
Traveler (DayZ) replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
I didn't have problems with the Zom,bies. Use an axe, no noise..will be fine...BUT climb the firestation tower and every Zed in town will see and aggro you. That's the most effed-up thing in this build right now. Also: The hit detection is still a bit strange I guess. But on the plus side: I was attacked by a female Zed while I was upstairs in a building, damn it, I nearly shat myself... Plus the new "sporter .22" rifle shoots peas. I could throw cotton balls at a Zed and do more damage. -
4. The troll way: Fly over Cherno in your Helicopter and have "Dragostea din tei" blasting out your speakers while other players and zombies run after you. I hope for helicopter implementation later on for this scenario alone. Trolling level: It's over 9000. trololololololol ....

Let's be honest we are all killers.. Try your hardest not to lie. Thanks
Traveler (DayZ) replied to capt. beefsteak's topic in General Discussion
Woohoo! I have shot exactly ONE dude in the 35+ hours I logged so far. And he shot one of my mates before that. I cannot remember having "murdered" anyone in DayZ STandalone so far. :-) And to why only the nice people are sesponding: They gather around the "social experiment" aspect of the game, are more communicative, and therefore more present at some places where chiter chatter goes on, like...this forum. So, our presence here is a statistical bias inherent to the system/problem at hand. (edit: If I ever went to Elektro, I would switch to instant-KoS mode. No other way there. I am no saint, and I am no fool. Let alone the saint of fools.) -
Why aren't there 'fat' characters in DayZ?
Traveler (DayZ) replied to TheMachine's topic in General Discussion
Epic troll is epic. The fatties have all been eaten by the Zeds already. They would have more reserves to weather it I guess, but what if you need to run to the hills? Nah, bro... *you are dead". Also, probably ran out of insulin pens and died of ketoazidotic coma. Or had an infected skin wound which wouldn't heal on their lower legs...because how would they reach there to bandage it? So many examples. And fat is NOT beautiful. Some fat is mandatory for survival, and I do want to discourage young girls and boys from looking like they might have been starving for months or just overcame cancer as an "ideal". Let there be healthy mediums! yay! But for god's sake, I want character customization? Rocket, you kinda promised! Noooo....the letdown! -
I don't find it realisitic or authentic in any way. It doesn't work like that IRL. It will take days to accumulate flies, and as bodies disappear after 10 mins, it is useless to begin with. You are looking for an easy way so you don't have to double-tap, aren't you? ;)

This game. And the people who play it
Traveler (DayZ) replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
Dear OP, dear Slyguy65! You are basically right. The encounters described amount to about 50% of the people you meet. And it is getting worse atm. But there is a major problem atm, too: All you can do in DayZ atm is a) walk around aimlessly, B) collect stuff, and when you're done: c) shoot people. The Zeds are dysfunctional to a point where they do not matter in the slightest. The diseases Rocket wanted in the game (like Cholera) are not yet there. The loot-system needs balancing. And the latest patch caused a duping issue (ending my squad with 10+ all-pristine parts M4s because we constantly got disconnected from teh server). We will see more things that make PvP with KoS even more uninteresting, and the real winners will be those who actually interact with players, not shoot them (interaction might imply robbing them, handcuffing, and feeding them to a Zombie, but hey ^^). What is there to do? Shoot people. Or explore the new Chernarus, if you dig ruinning around for 20+ hours meeting only 1-2 people whom you quite possibly simply can avoid. Oh, mind you, you won't ever die that way...but it IS boring, kind of. The only incentive I see at the moment to play the game is looking for people sniping on the coast, mostly Berezino, and kill them. And why the F*#´ would anyone go to Elektro? Elektro is the KOS-capital-city of the world...there is literally NOTHING else to expect there. Meet me at Grishino, at Zelenogorsk, at effing Gorka...you won't find the campers there. And most people will have headsets to talk, if they don't KoS you right away. And the most important life-lesson: Don't help anyone unless they ask you to. And make them commit, make them repay you in some way. Period. edit: @orlok: you were faster, but already made some of my points! @don't accuse OP of hating or being a "victim"! He is just expressing his disappointment with his fellow players...some people do not generally mean other people harm IRL, and these will likely be up for a rude awakening in this game... ;-) (hey, but I survived it, too). -
If you like dying, come to BEREZINO.
Traveler (DayZ) replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
Well, it makes for a great read. The digital equivalent of waving his penis around in helicopter-dick mode, while shouting "look at my dick, my dick is amazing, trolololol!". And it explains why I usually am so alone at the NWAF. ALl the bandits seem to be sitting on some hill/some high building with their guns, shooting freshspawns or people who are obviously not very well stocked or armed. Blimey! I will venture there, the NEAF and Berezino, and shoot the people who shoot people tro prove once and for all shooting people is bad. Except the people who shoot people who shoot people shoot me ... that will then be the REAL bandits. The former kind we shouldn't label bandits, these are so called "dicks", as I have come to learn on the fabulous interwebs. (corrected equations: bandits shooting people who shoot dicks who shoot freshspawns. Now it is coming together, right? Ye olde dayZ foodchain forming again.) -
How I have stayed alive for 6 weeks on a single character
Traveler (DayZ) replied to knar33's topic in General Discussion
My last character which I had running around the whole map 2 times since the server wipe died yesterday. It was because basically I hung out at the NWAF for about 3-4 hours, looting and then engaging 3 groups of players. I was tired of ruinning around on lonely hills, and wanted some action. Did my 1st player kill in Standalone there. Guys we met were not friendly. Killed one of my mates with no warning. Of course I had to kick their butts!? Well, one but was kicked, two more badly wounded, then I was down. My friends did the mop-up. But I can relate to OP: If you deliberately keep out of trouble and are careful, you can survive for insanely long times. It just gets boring after you have everything...at least at the game's current state. -
I died in a similar way for absolutely no reason in a town devoid of any zombie or player, standing still on the top floor of a two-storey building. I looked at some pants lying around on the floor, moused over the item in the inventory, there were no sound whatsoever, nothing. Suddenly the black screen "you are dead". Absolutely no reason whatsoever. I spawned near the place, ran back there, couldn't find my body, and nothing else out of the ordinary. I went to loot the same pants and nothing happened. Must be some bug associated with the new buildings themselves?!

Rolling Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.32.114557
Traveler (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
The day we see servers with 200+ vehicles and starting gear loadouts, the game will already be dead, no matter what has been programmed...I guess we might see up to 20 vehicles on the map more likely. But the Zombie numbers do need to go up by 1000%, otherwise leave them out completely and think of a scenario without Zombies, just survival in a postapocalyptic world... -
Cherno has been quiet the past couple days.
Traveler (DayZ) replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
I have been to every location mentioned here, and I met three friendly players (two new spawns), and not a single soul since then. Literally, where are people? We need to up the server pop a lot, given that there are currently no vehicles, I cannot find anyone semmingly!? I swear, I sat an hour in Berezino reading Alice in wonderland, and noone gave a shite...spawn where you want, it is depressing if you are trying to be a medic for people who ARE NOT THERE... -
Core 2 Quad @ 2,83Ghz 8Gb Kingston @ 1066Mhz GTX 670 Running DayZ from normal HDD FPS in cities (on the roads): ~14-18 FPS inside a building: ~15-18 depending where on the map and which server FPS in the woods/fields ~30-35 FPS while staring at the sky: ~60 dayZ at 1920x1080, everythin on normal, clouds, shadows on very high, FXAA postprocess high, antialias off, textures low. edit: There is literally absolutely no change in fps for the better if I turn down any of the options. Max +5 fps ^^ with everything on "unplayable 90's shit"
