Security Vulnerabilities fixed by Patch #2 and Character wipe
Traveler (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Well, I had a character that, albeit maybe 80% dead, had finally found soo much gear, I was stocked with a M4A1 with 2 mags and 70 bullets. But this is an Alpha, everyone who complains: This was to be expected. Expect the database to wipe because of a new update that fucks it all up, expect it again to be wiped when a map-overhaul comes out etc. ! There is this little thing where you have to click " In understand" when you enter the game. READ that.... That being said, I think this was sending a message to the hackers, too: They are not welcome. And will be even less so by the Community, because they might mess up the game so much, it needs to restart for everyone. Now, it was only the first week, so everyone stop complaining and get some beans! ;-) -
Actually, nighttime in reality IS entirely black-and-white. That is, if it is really dark, i.e. without lightsources Our nightvision is provided mostly by the rod-cells in our eye, which work in low-light, and shut down in normal light (that's why you lose your nightvision after being blinded by a flashlight). These also concentrate on the peripheral field of vision, as humans are usually active thoughout the day and only need to be wary of predators in the nighttime hours. There are NO colors whatsoever in a starry night, even when the mon is out: You can maybe tell if a parked car is white or black or something in between. You won't see if it is blue or green. All the argument about ramping up nighttime is not feasible from a realistic standpoint, it would be to pep up the graphics. Secondly: The 24/7 daytime shit is simply for pussies. That's where the mod started to deteriorate. I have to put it in these harsh words. Don't play if you are a baby. Nighttime is tense. It should be experienced. I Had almost all my best encounters in nighttime server-hours! BUT, and here's the BUT(T): there should be a choice. Some people hate it. Currently, when I have time to play, there will always be nighttime...I have yet to see the daytime graphics! locking the serveres to several timezones, and that might do it. I totally LOVE the 24-hour realistic day-and night-cycle!! The sunrise in Chernarus after surviving a whole 10 hr night is the most rearding thing :-)

as you wouldn't IRL, if you stared right at it. Go out and try, the sun's low in most northern parts this winter...

Servers not showing and waiting for host
Traveler (DayZ) replied to Mori (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Not mad, jst sad panda. Some people, like me, won't have time until sunday to try and play this again... :-( But it is exciting to see. An adventure to embark on, this Alpha! Let's do it together. And when it's all fixed, let's get back to slamming our axes into each other's heads. amen bros. -
DayZ Developer Blog 3rd August 2013
Traveler (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I finally have to say something on this topic, too. Is anyone really of the opinion that a shitty buggy game-release would NOT damage the reputation of the publisher? Bugs need to be weeded out. It will not wirk otherwiese. It HAS TO BE BETTER than expected, otherwise people will compare it to the infamous WarZ-scam. I am sure it will not be a scam, because it would by now have built up enough hype to be sold a lot of times...yet it does not release, the team wants that which is implemented to actually work and look ok. Maybe if it hits the aplpha-amrk in september, release it same time as GTA 5...so the whiny kiddies who will "not give the game much attention after their release" are out froim the start...god this game can do without kiddies, or adults behaving like them. Some points I am concerned a bit about in the game so far (I have onlky seen bits, yes I know). Does the grass still only render for 80 meters? Because that will be the single-most rewarding feature that promotes sniping, like it is in the mod! A solution may be to have grass render if someone looks through a sight with zoom, and render it only centered at the point he aims at...though I have no idea if there is an actual possibility to add this at all or at least without frame-drops from hell. Many people seem to be greatly underestimating the changes made by the new loot mechanics, the somewhat de-centralized buildup of the new map and the fully enterable buildings. The latter ones were one of the - if not THE - most immersion-breaking factors in dayZ. Also, all smaller towns were made non-viable as a looting place. This will all change. Also, the zombie-spawn server-side and the higher numbers of them should do something, too. I like where this is heading, and I will wait for it to come out later in the year. Rocket mentioned that there will be a point where more people will join the development team...wuold be a shame not to use them for a while before the initial release. Amount of work put in = amount of fucks given = amount of happiness with the game later on. Moo! I am just a rambling madcow. -
DayZ Alpha won't launch until launched !
Traveler (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Ok, I finally log back in to the forums to give some 2 cents of mine...basically all I can afford. I wonder how many times the same stupid questions were asked... I keep wondering how many people can be such dumb jacka**** and mock Dean Hall for going on a once-in-a-lifetime trip, just because this might delay the time they can have their gaming experience...hello? I myself am constantly pissed off by people who usually complain about me not being at work when I have just had a two-week holiday-experience...yay, suckers, ya know? Suck my ****! ... this community seems a bit immature at times, and I apologize for my strong language in this post, but wtf is wrong with some of you guys? Next: I want to play this game as much as anyone, have played dayZ the mod since May? last year, and got annoyed as hell by hackers and stuff. But does anyone believe this game cannot be hacked? Some hacker I know just shrugged and said "anything can be hacked somehow." and that was it for him. But I do HOPE, really, that this is a really rare thing in the SA, for it spoils everything. So in conclusion: I will indeed patiently wait for a game that has eliminated these possibilities, that is more performance-optimized, that has critical bad-mechanics (like zombies spawning around players only) fixed, that offers Zeds which are a real threat and buildings that are enterable, making the game more into awhat it once was when I started playing...a hostile environment, creepy soundtrack, creepy Zeds, uncertainty if someone would turn out to be of help or just shoot you for a bottle of coke and a can of beans...a frustrating, but exciting adventure, that could lead to some really interesting situations, some very interesting social interaction. I still skype and chat with some of the people I met in the game. It was awesome. And if waiting a month longer to bring back the basics that should have been there but could not be in the mod, I will wait. I have waited for more than ten years for Starcraft II to come out though, I really do hope the standalone does not go down this road... ;-) Adressing vehicles: I think they should definitely NOT be in the Alpha-release if they are as badly and stupidly done as in Arma II. Seriously, all the driving mechanics was basically a pile of crap, the damage model was a joke, the vehicles broke over stuff that you coukld do 100 times with a real car and it wouldnt hurt it, but it was no problem jumping down a cliff as long as your vehicle didnt turn. But oh, drive into a pine tree with 20 km/h and your car will NUKE. Please, redo them completely, and just put them back in ASAP...but f*** the old ones... -
Hotfix Build 1.7.2.6 Rolling Update
Traveler (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
The tent issue is currently being adressed with the help of some tool that some server admins are trying out, the only thing it does is auto-save the tent when the server restarts. Nothing gets lost, and items cannot be duped anymore. Easy solution, it seems. -
Some things that ruin the realism of DayZ.
Traveler (DayZ) replied to TagMor's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Cars should be much more easy to drive through a bit of rubble, I agree there. But if you drive a normal car through a forest it should get stuck on slopes...if it is not 4x4 vehicle. That would be realistic. I nearly got my Mercedes stuck in a nice sloping meadow yesterday in RL...easy to do. The general idea would be to make the cars better in handling, more resistant and more consistent in the game. Also, the driver in the passenger seat could be able to fire highly inaccurate shots from his window. The teeperature system with some worked out bugs I'd like to see in action again, though. It was one of the most hilarious things ever to happen to me when some guy needed heatpacks in order not to get too cold in the rain. I talked on the side chat, and he said "ok, where can I find you?" and I just told him "I'm in a bush near you with a ghillie. I will come out and give you supplies. A sniper is overwatching, don't do stupid stuff" He was irritated when I got up froim 20 m behind him and really did nothing but give him heatpack, painkillers and stuff...pretty nice. -
Well as far as I've seen the Takistan region is comprised of mostly barren, empty wasteland that stretches between cities for miles and miles, not much vegetation to hide in, no hospital on the map that I know of, so death is practically unavoidable. Try to eat yourself back to health with steaks? Yeah, try to find trees to harvest wood from, and the animals to eat, good luck there, too. In comparison I would rate the maps the following: CHERNARUS - Mother of dayZ, has the best Zombie-apocalypse feel to it. Getting old for most players who have everything explored. The map should be bigger ^^ --> 9/10 points overall. LINGOR - the firstborn son of dayZ, has some issues with voilence, is slightly smaller than the original, and packs a lot of vegetation to hide in. Good for the snipers... --> 6/10 points. 9/10 in PvP. TAKISTAN - the retarded second child, diagnosed too late to effectively abort it. Endless dullness, brown-grey landscapes. You will like it if you're a fan of Afghanistan, maybe. Cannot grow drugs there to consume, which would help with the dullness -->4/10 points. To recap, Takistan sucks. Really hard. Can't emphasize enough. I will further explore it with a few friends if they decide to ever run it again on their server...
-
Not to mention that Takistan is a piece of a bull's fecal dropping and not worth your time at all. Lingor is stupid to install, as a tip: get the Arma II launcher, lets you choose the mod and map you want to load...
-
Nice quick and dirty deathmatch where you start with no weapon at all... only fun for 1-2hrs, the server should restart by then, because the piles of corpses get too high to climb over and the heli spawns are all empty. Not the dayZ feel to it. More like a realistic-styled Unreal Tournament against whimsical psychos with an unnoticeble taste of Zombie.

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Traveler (DayZ) replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
People are pretty worried about mostly technical issues. I would add the following, which I just put in another thread when it occured to me that this needs to be put into this thread for the standalone....this is to address the KoS issue which has effectively killed most of the gameplay lately (only fun is fighting squad vs. squad then...and we could do that in Arma, but the challenge of gearing yourself and the consequences of death would be missing)... "DayZ is a mod for Arma II, a military game for which it was really logical to have your character carry a gun at all times, because hell it is war out there. So this carried on to DayZ. This is the ONE SINGLE MOST COMMON REASON for all the paranoia going on. Why would I be running across a field out there with my rifle even drawn? These things are really heavy, so carrying it on your shoulder makes more sense. You can get your sidearms out if you want to anytime, relatively quick. BUT NOW you cannot ever put both your firearms away completely. Whenever you are discussing something, it is done over the barrel of a gun. THERE SHOULD BE a way to PUT YOUR GUN AWAY (so you have to draw it again). To not make this an effective problem in Zed-infested areas, drawing your handgun should be possible while running (NOT getting out your rifle, though! That could even take more time...) So yeah, basically it boils down to: Give people the possibility to express their peaceful nature." -
Did it occur to anyone so far that the *ahem* "entrenching tool" is just a spade? lolz...
-
yeah maybe put in rideable horses, too. speed could be up to 50, regardless of terrain. would have to be fed water and left to graze. Should also yield 6 meatsteaks if the situations calls for barbarism. ;-)

American Weapons and Russian Weapons
Traveler (DayZ) replied to speca's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is going off-topic. But yes, it bothers me a little tiny bit, too. We see a lot of american/western guns here, and as far as I have seen there are a ton of cool russian/soviet weapons in Arma, too. So, why not put them in!? I wouldn't mind the AS50 becoming rare loot (helicopter crash only), and ONLY using AS50-rounds (like the FN FAL uses ONLY FAL rounds, even if it should be able to use the same rounds as DMR/M24). There is a slienced soviet sniper in Arma 2 CO!!?? ;-) just wait for the rage... -
Regarding Genders, Skins & Teleportation
Traveler (DayZ) replied to Magnet (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Teleporting has never been an issue for me... But the gender issue pokes me. Why can't females wear ghillies and camo? Why do they turn to males sometimes? Why did I play a woman when I clicked on male that one time? I hope this gets fixed, too... Also, the female character-models cannot be customized in the part where I choose my profile, or am I wrong here? My sister was bothered by this... -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
Traveler (DayZ) replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I heard you out, Jepix... ^^ again. And now some stuff I think hasn't been adressed enough: Animations: The animations, and I do not mean the Zeds. I mean player-side. Why does a player need 5 seconds to fall down after I shoot him in the head with an AS50? Also, why does he/she just randomly fall to the ground...there is some ragdoll-like stuff needed. It is just because it is 2012...we people are so used to details! Same thing for stairs and cars: Whoever tried to shoot someone going up or down stairs knows what I mean! Slowing down and speeding up at random there...wtf? And the cars, oh, the cars!! Why no animation of the character entering or exiting that vehicle? At least one that would minimze the sudden and random popping in and out of the vehicle. (Also, it would be quite nifty if I didn't die every 2nd time I exited a car in a forest.) Wouldn't mind this not being on the top of your to-do list, but there it should be nonetheless. Buildings: The Standalone can use Chernarus, ok. But with enterable buildings. I know that the loot system needs a complete overhaul in this case (less spawns per house, less stuff spawning, everything more spread out), but it would take way longer and be more thrilling to go around cities. It would make cities harder for survivors (sniper soulc be behind any window) and for snipers (Survivors could hide behind any window) ^^. It would add to the atmosphere if done right, but I trust you guys there. The HUD! : People complain about the messed-up HUD, but why would a player get the number of Zeds on the server? Why would he need to know all the details? Just say fuck it, and leave the debug monitor out, but I guess thats what you have in mind for the mod already, haven't you? ;-) The Statistics-Section/Achievements: Yes, dayZ should have a "hall of fame" for every player, with data like "longest lifespan", "shortest lifespan", "most zombies killed per life", "least killed ...", "average Zeds killed", average beverage consumed, bullets from primary weapon fired, bullets fired from secondary...and maybe even "achievements" , e.g. for killing a chicken with an axe or similarly obscure stuff. Maybe even # of tents placed...what makes sense, what motivates players. Not a KDR, though... Medical system: Painkillers are ok...but Morphine is a really really strong painkiller, too. It should have the same effects therefore, stopping the shaking. It should however, lead to poorer vision (blurred out peripheral sight, sometimes it causes the weirdest things...), but this shouldn't be done via post processing effects (or the post processing effects should not be able to be turned off completely!!) and slower reaction timings, let's say a delay of 50-100ms when pulling the trigger to shoot (thats already immense in a game). It has effects like that in real life. Blood bags should be less abundant. Let players with the appropriate stuff (must be added, then) make their own tranfusions...decreases blood by 2000 in one player, fills maximum with other player, and has a 50% chance to cause a lethal adverse reaction (leading to fast blood loss untiul death) when not tested for a A/B/0 ... And add a splint for broken legs! Morphine just only temporarily fix a leg (say 15 min), and only enable you to walk, not to sprint. The splint could be "level-one" (selfmade, your leg is fixed but you cannot run still, the symbol changes to a mended-leg-symbol) or "level-two" (aided by other player, fully fixed, able to run, "broken leg" completely removed). Epi-pens should have the adverse effect of a light shaking that does only go away after about 2min; and nothing can be done about this. Also, "shock" should have a consequence other than fainting at relog... -
Increase survival aspect Of DayZ, increase scarcity of food
Traveler (DayZ) replied to JackWalsh's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
@Jepix: You put in a lot of suggestions in your wall of text... I really would like to see some movement in the food-area, too. Making soda-cans a ever rarer find is a nice idea, but as the loot spawns are generated server-side I guess, after the daily (or 3x daily) restart everything would be reset, I guess... But the idea of water supplies that can be stocked and moved around with a vehicle only) makes sense. If I were in a Zombie Apocalypse, I'd try to get a working truck, and load that fucker up with beans&Co and a watertank...also why not include campers (not the players who camp, the vehicle)? Could store a lot of stuff, too...ok, I will make a thread for the standalone with vehicle suggestions if not already up. ;-) But generally decreasing the abundance of some stuff would be nice, especially soda cans...I run across about 10x of what I need while going through the smaller villages ^^ -
I would second these things too. Should be not too uncommon as well. You get a net 12' by 12' for a few bucks really...so, at least medium abundance in military loactions. The problem I see: If viewed from afar, it will still stand out due to the engine's way of not rendering any grass brushes at a distance...
-
The main problem doesn't seem to be the high spawn rate. I have so far in all my weeks long dayZ career found only ONE AS50, ONE M107, 1 CZ550, and 3 DMRs...plus a fuckton of fn Fal anpvs, which isn't useful that much in daylight. The problem is the players effectively representing a "gear-filter". The best stuff is picked up, the common stuff tossed away. When a player gets killed, the best gear, which sometimes is a AS50, gets grabbed and survives. This way, weapons like the AS50 or DMR aggregate on players. They DO already spawn really rare. If you want them out of the game, just loot the tents they are in, throw them out and save dat thing afterwards. Have cleared half a server from duped satchels and nades plus tons of duped weaponry this way...sounds bad, but is necessary. I end up with a AS50 almost every time...my mate killed a ghillie guy running after me (I had an axe and the hero skin ^^)...I went to grab some of his gear...strapped his backpack to my back...guess what was in there people? An AS50, thats right, nice guess. I have not fired a shot from it...and I probably never will. Maybe I should toss it in the bushes, too! ;-)

Batteries for electronic devices
Traveler (DayZ) replied to ANDOCOMANDO11's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Maybe include recharger-terminals that still work...a new place to fight for ... NOT -
lol...comabt deafness? is that defined as a severe form of TTS or more blown-your-eardrum-out PTS? dafuq U know about this... CoD DOES require skills! I played the very first of the series...but the skills involve mainly being fast, clicking, and being precise. You need those here, too. Plus you need to be way more careful and plan next steps, make tactical decisions and need to know the ballistics of most weaponry that you are using. Makes this game right here more challenging imo. And Artillery strikes?? wtf? maybe we should include a bomber or tqo on the map too, so we can fly bombing runs over the cities...or a few battletanks...pewpewbangbbom brrrrr I don't get it. WIll never be added to the game.

Should we remove barbed wire in the next update
Traveler (DayZ) replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
remove dat stuff, it is annoying like hell and bugged like f***!! -
Man, please learn grammar and stuff. Have you ever tried drinking water from a jerry previously filled with diesel?? nope... And the vests are an ok idea, but would additionally imbalav´nce the game, especially if they would be realistic (e.g. catch all impacting pistol bullets completely!). Every bandit would have one. I would absolutely second the notion of a flare-gun! so you could make yourself seen, for whatever reason *it's a trap*. Maybe it would be easier to make a winter version of chernarus...but including customizable clothes and outfit would be neat... and please, do not make a post like this again. use a readable format. everything U said was useless, noone reads it... ^^

what would you do if you find a crate full of weapons
Traveler (DayZ) replied to lawphoto's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I came acroiss stuff like that, too. A teent with 12 satchel charges...100% duped items. Can be fun, too! Threw all of them out of the tent, saved it empty, then set a few to blow up. Nice bang, there, and goodbye duped items! But if i come across a vehicle with 2xAS50, 2xL85, 4xFN FAL + FN FAL ANPVS, plus 1xDMR plus plenty of ammo, plus 5 ghillies, plus 2 GPS...it need not be hacked, I collected amounts of stuff equal to that with a few freinds, too. Be happy! But remember, the AS50 with thermal is a frigging imbalanced hacker weapon. You will burn in dayZ hell if u take one and use one! May you be perma.banned, then! But why not take a decent gun? Some people DO actually have massive amounts of cool stuff saved in some tents or cars...but the crates are 100% hacked, there you're right. Still, feeding yourself there, and equipping a nice M16A4 seems reasonable. The ting is what Enforcer said: If you have everything, it becomes boring,m and you start feeling bad for not having accomplished it the real, the hard way. If you feel your game is spoiled by it, take the satchel and make anice firework from that stuff! Is fun, too. Like I did...ok, I have taken a ghillie and NVGs ^^ ;-)
