10/12/13 - Bug Fixes for Basebuilding - Couple of small bug fixes for basebuilding including one which meant if you got out of your helicopter on top of another players base you could be teleported inside. -

09/12/13 - Tweaks to buildlist - Some balancing tweaks made to the buildlist, other peoples roofs for example are now much easier to remove without losing a toolbox. Additionally I am soon going to update the roofed structures such as garages to take damage. This will mean a satchel charge will be able to destroy one. This is to avoid people using roofed structures as walls and to make hoarding a little harder. - Some performance improvements - The massive number of database spawned objects (1000 +) is taking its toll a little on server restart times. I've made a couple of changes to improve this somewhat. - Additional Dupe logging - I have enhanced the tools I coded to log duping across the server. This gives me even more accurate information on potential cases of duping. -

08/12/13 - Fixed tent placement - The Dayzmod tent placement code was stopping tents being built close to basebuilding objects in some cases. This has now been fixed. - Removed SawMillRoof - One of the roofs rosska had added was a bit too big to be a basebuilding item imo and it has been removed from the item list. -

07/12/13 - Small Basebuilding Bugfixes from Rosska - Tower lights will now work for all connected clients instead of just the person who turned them on. Lighting self actions list is also more organised now with less options listed by default. Tweaks for placement controls on booby traps also added. - Two new roofs added - Rosska also added a couple of new roofs to the build list, and updated the images for some of the existing items. - Burn Tents - I've added the burn tents mod back to the server now, provided you have a knife and matches and the tent does not belong to you you will be able to burn it. It takes 5 minutes of burning for a tent to be deleted, if you somehow burn one by accident just logout and login again. -

The new basebuilding plugin from daimyo has been successfully merged into the main server now. Myself and rosska85 (rosska did all the really hard work) have been working on this for a while now, merging the code to dayz 1.8 and sharing it so others can also install it. Main Enhancements in the New Basebulding Code - You can control the height as well as the position of objects now - No more long keycodes to remember, you just add your clan members to your flagpole - You can add all flagpole members as owners of any basebuilding items - All flagpole owners can be given access to infostands - Infostands operate doors, movable roofs and lights, no codes flagpole members just scroll mouse. - Booby traps work, and you clan can be given immunity from explosions on ones you have built - New items to build - New recipe ingredients, camonets, bricks, string, duct tape, supply crates, scrap electronics - New placement system to make object placements easier Some things are quite different from previous basebuilding so I will give a summary here. Firstly if you have an existing base do no remove any of your walls until you have built a flagpole, otherwise you will not be able to build your walls again All bases require a flagpole, your flagpole is responsible for defining your bases owners. Once you have built your flagpole you need to add each member of your group to the flagpole, this will allow those people to become owner of objects (so they can remove them when they wish) and also will allow them to operate your info panel. To add a player to the flagpole you need their uid, you can view this by having them stand next to the pole with you. Mouse wheel on the player and you will see an option to show their UID. I recommend you type the UID into vehicle chat as you won't be able to view it once you open the keypad. Select the following option to add that UID to the flag Remember to press # on the keypad once you are done typing the UID in. Next, if you have any items that you own, at your base which you wish to give access to to other flag pole members, you can use the following scroll wheel option. After adding all the flagpole members they will all be able to remove and rebuild the item in question. If you add new flagpole members you will need to select the option again to add them. There is a similar option for the info panels (mine says admin but yours will not) the owner of the panels can give everyone else on the flagpole access and they can then all operate the gates, your roofs or your lights. -

Maybe .st denied your support questions because you were asking dumb questions or asking them to make scripts work for you because you couldn't install them. Maybe you installed a script, which caused a server issue which you were expecting them to diagnose for you? Certainly they always gave very helpful answers to my own queries despite running a heavily customised server. I never had a ticket turned away just because I had changed some things and they were always helpful in their answers to me. That's very different to saying that a problem on your server is not supported because of the fact you made a change instead of paying them to make the exact same one. Even worse is charging them again for the same thing when another dayz patch comes out. The whole point is that I would never have released these scripts if I thought they would be used this way. I won't be releasing anything in future at all on opendayz. Other people affected by this with their own scripts have shared similar opinions of it with me. If you can't see how the actions of SS are negatively affecting the efforts of a community you clearly enjoy the fruits of then that's your problem not mine. Would you be happier if no one on opendayz ever posted their work? How about if the only way to get server mods was to pay for them from a website or maybe obtain a "pirate" copy? The least SS could do is provide a working hyperlink to all the opendayz installation instruction threads their own installations are using anyway, give people who haven't seen the mods before a chance to install themselves and of course give the authors credit. More than this I think they should support anyone who has successfully installed a modification which they charge money for the installation of. You only get to enjoy all those mods you run on your server because people like myself chose to share them and offer installation instructions and support, as soon as people start using them to generate money like this there is far less incentive for any of us to bother. -

Dayz.st never turned away any of my support tickets because I had modified my PBO's they also don't offer script installations for money as their only supportable option. Feel free to point me in the direction of other hosting providers using my scripts to generate profit and I will happily "witch hunt" them too. -

Why would they do that when they can just tell customers that if they have changed a pbo file in anyway at all they get no support at all implying its the customers fault for making changes instead of paying them to do it. Presumably they give customers some equally bullshit excuses when they experience server problems and haven't modified their pbos. Maybe someone else can let us know on that.... -
Public Explanation of Why My Thread About SurvivalServers Was Deleted

I would like an explanation from the mods of why this thread has been deleted posted here for all to see. I have broken none of this forums rules. As an ex customer of this hosting service I am well within my rights to share my views on their servers with others. Regardless of your views on open source licensing the facts are this. 1) I wrote those scripts and released them on opendayz to help others learn. I went to the trouble of writing tutorials for their installation and responding to support questions regularly on that forum. I never encountered anyone who was unable to install any of my scripts. Had I known they would be sold for profit I would never have released them. Dantes post yesterday said this because my scripts had a disclaimer on them saying they could not be used to make money. That is retarded. OpenDayZ is a place for people to get help with these things. Thats why we post them there and respond to support requests from people on there. Shockingly we don't charge anyone for this service. SurvivalServers don't even have so much as a hyperlink to these opendayz threads on their page. Nor do they have links for half of the scripts, all of which come from there the authors names are never mentioned. We do not go to all that trouble of writing these tutorials to make someone else money. If you think its legal or not for them to do that is irrelevant to me sharing my own opinion on it and trying to make the information public. 2) The fact Dante seems to have gracefully glanced over (I am assuming he deleted the thread) is that SurvivalServers will offer you no support on your server whatsoever if you modify a pbo file in any way without paying them to do it. It doesn't matter what that problem is they will blame your modifications as being the cause unless you paid them to do the exact same thing you would have done (read opendayz). If a patch comes out for dayZ guess what, you need to pay them again if you ever want a helpful response from their support desk. People have a right to know this. 3) I am an ex customer of this host, I had a shit experience hosting with them I should be able to share that with others. Deleting my thread made me lose a massive amount of respect for this forum and it supposed impartiality. No one is ever going to agree completely in a discussion about software licensing like this. We should however all be able to voice our opinions publicly about it though and let consumers make their own minds up when choosing a host. -

They owe me an explanation and they can make it publicly so everyone can see it. They can delete it again and I'll recreate it again. They can ban my IP/account and I'll create another one until an explanation is given I have done nothing wrong in creating the thread. If they delete my thread no one sees what they have done besides the few people to post in that thread. They should justify they actions if they think they have a valid reasoning for them. -

This thread is not about debating who is worse. It is about the actions of SurvivalServers and the fact they are breaking the licensing restrictions surrounding freely released scripts by forcing customers to pay for their "installation". -

Thanks for the advice, apologies if you thought I was backing Origins but I really wasn't I've been extremely critical of them in the past too and have never supported their mod or their practices. In the case of Origins vs SS both were in the wrong but I wanted to use the example to show that SS are no strangers to acting like cunts and disrespecting software licensing. It is frustrating to know that if I had a botnet I could get this resolved a lot faster than using a lawyer though. -

Forgive my crosspost from reddit, I wanted to make sure as many people could read this and contribute their own experiences as possible. This comes from my original reddit post here let me know what your experiences of SS have been... SurvivalServers have always been a shady company I first dealt with them more than a year ago now. More on that later though. In the past SS have shown they obviously don't care about ethics or morals and only about making money. Back in May the Origins files were leaked and shortly after SS started sending out mails offering hosting on those leaked files - http://pbrd.co/17JvTSD In the end the Origins guys DDOS'd SS in order to stop them making money from trying to host their mod. Presumably becuse they found talking to them not to be effective but who knows with Origins. They have a history of shady stuff themselves http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/1ecfve/criminal_actions_of_dayz_origins_developers/ Now Origins is a mod designed to make money and I won't defend their actions (Origins have also DDOS'd opendayz in the past) but SS were certainly in the wrong to be trying to make money hosting with their files. Whats far more alarming is what they have recently started doing... Myself and many others over at opendayz.net write small server modifications which we share with the community. I'm sure many of you will have come across these countless times in the past on various servers. Scripts that let you do things like eat people, self bloodbag, remove vehicle parts, build bases etc. We share our work to help others learn before I wrote my own mods I learned from the work others had shared on opendayz. We do not however share it so people can use it for profit. SS have started selling the installation of these simple scripts onto servers, everything you see listed here has been lifted straight from OpenDayZ - http://www.survivalservers.com/cart.php?gid=24 The service they are charging you for is essentially reading and understanding one of the opendayz release threads. Now for one thing the installation of all these mods is trivial, and detailed fully in their original threads. Secondly my modifications and many other peoples state that they cannot be taken and used for profit - http://opendayz.net/threads/random-clothing-parcels.12217/ http://opendayz.net/threads/cannibalism.12218/http://opendayz.net/threads/bury-corpses.13368/ "Terms & Conditions - When you download or copy this code you agree to not charge any money for installing this script." Yet SS have them listed on their "modding service" page. This is completely unauthorized. It is distgusting that SS are trying to make money from "installation" of something so trivial. In my experience with the company I doubt they will even do a decent job of it either. I actually hosted a server with SS over a year ago now. The server itself was terrible, it was only even accessible for 20 days out of the 31 I paid for I wrote some details last year on the dayzmod forums about that. I dealt with a few hosts before switching to dedicated hosting and doing the job myself. SS were certainly the worst company I dealt with in that time. SS also stole the work of Hangender/Infistar, who made an excellent serverside antihack script, which SS also sell (without permission). It is not their work and AFAIK they have no permission from the authors to be selling it. I wanted to make this thread not only to highlight the extremely underhand and immoral tactics they are employing to try to make money. But also to warn anyone thinking of hosting a server with their company to avoid them at all costs. There are lots of alternative hosts to SS for DayZ and all of them offer a better service. SS use the crappy TCAdmin package for managing their servers. This is a generic package (surprise surprise not coded by them) which doesn't work properly or allow you to do many simple dayz server management tasks. Their hosting is lacking in many areas (including performance) compared to the other hosts. DayZ.st for example have a wealth of in house coded web-based tools to make server management easier. If you are considering hosting a dayz server and you aren't confident enough to be doing it on a dedicated box DO NOT chose to host with SS. If you have had similar bad experiences with SS please share them here. If anyone has any advice legally on the best way to pursue this please let me know. Edit - Some more information came to light from an ex customer: If you host with them, they tell you that any server with mods loaded is not supported unless you have paid them to do it. Then they will tell you that you need to pay them again any time a dayz patch is released. Effectively you are paying for someone at SurvivalServers to read an OpenDayZ thread, one which would never have been made had the creator known they would be pulling crap like this. If you chose not to do that and there's a problem with your server too bad no support for you because it's your fault for not paying them to follow someone else's tutorial!- 1798 replies
