There was two guys I used to play DayZ with, both on the same beta patch and DayZ version. One of them could one-shot z's with a revolver or M1911 every time, and the other one (and everyone else I play with too) has the nerfed .45's. Some people can indeed still one-shot with the .45's. Something's up. -
Try joining 1.7.2.5 or 1.7.2.4 servers, or servers with a different beta patch to you. If you can get stuck on the 'loading' screen, or sometimes, if you quit while it's at 'loading', your world position co-ordinates will become corrupted. Then, next time you log in to a server, they will be reset and you'll spawn back at the coast. This bug pissed off many many many people while servers and players were switching to 1.7.2.6 and the newer beta patches. Find some old servers and give it a go.

Bit of feedback to the Vilayer crew... I love this map in Arma 2 but this isn't Arma, this is DayZ. You actually need to put some loot spawns in, yeah. Took me about an hour to find a Makarov and a revolver. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It's not v1 really, it's v0.1

Yeah if you're running Windows 7 go to control panel > display > screen resolution then play with the 'multiple display' settings. You can make the taskbar extend that way. UltraMon's good but personally I use the Nvidia control center to fine tune my dual screens. I like to use my 15" as my primary until Windows has booted, at which point my 24" then becomes the primary, and the taskbar disappears on the 15".

Who is 'we'? Do you have any idea how much time and effort it takes even a dedicated TEAM of mappers to complete a medium-to-large map? It is doable but something tells me you don't have a dedicated team of map makers behind you. A 400km² map is absurdly big. Let alone the 1000s of custom models you'll need to build from scratch as well, unless you want to use Eastern European buildings in your New York style map? Honestly I don't want to sound like a dick but you should read up on what mapping entails. Not even Bohemia would undertake a 400km² New York style map because it'd take them about 18 years to complete. edit: it would be quicker for you to go and learn how to mod GTAIV and then re-build the DayZ mod on that engine.

Excellent idea. You could get ill, but be unsure of your exact illness until your shit has been closely examined for signs of specific illnesses. Doctors love checking out shit. You could have players who specialise in shit identification. Diarrhoea vs. constipation vs. green turds, etc. -
That's some very vague information to go by. What kind of crash? Check if it happens with other games/3D applications too. Sounds like your graphics card could be overheating.

I'm fully behind the shit and piss idea. Some gnarly sound FX, bit of Metal Gear Solid-style pixelation on the private parts, steam on the end result, Bear Grylls style drinkable piss, aimable cock (make it usable as a 'weapon' to indicate you're friendly/insane) and make it so you can't just put a campfire out, you've got to piss on it. Lovely. -

To be fair, you should learn the map. It does all look largely similar but I've learnt to recognise different parts of the map after playing many hours of Warfare on Takistan. If you spawned in Feruz Abad then it would make it even easier to gear up. It only takes 10 minutes to get kitted out as it is.

Back before everything seemed to accidentally dupe itself I had (I think) 18 or so jerries in our camp. They're surprisingly common if you keep an eye out for them.

What? You'd rather everyone was hosting and playing private hives? Fair play - I'm not going to argue against that. I think open modding of the DayZ mod would give you more ideas and inspiration for standalone than you currently have, but it'd be nice to see some officially supported private hive solutions now you've changed your mind about whether private hives are OK. There's plenty of private hive solutions out there which work, but they're all different and each has its own pros and cons. It'd be nice if all the private hive modders and admins could be on the same page. The idea of an official private hive solution which actually provides you with stats would make more sense to me than whatever 1.7.3 is likely to contain. IMO the mod can't open up soon enough - there's 1000s of talented modders out there just itching to mod your mod. -

DMR over SVD any day of the week. DMR has a bigger clip, common ammo, better in CQC and it works with night vision. SVD looks cool but the only place you can find ammo for it reliably is in tents.

This forum is full of idiots. I dual boot XP x86 and 7 x64 because there are many programs and pieces of hardware I use which work flawlessly with XP but are not compatible with 7 for whatever reason. Lots of hardware companies don't update their drivers for new operating systems. Lots of software companies don't update their software for new operating systems either. On the subject of advantages (of which you think there are none) - my XP installation boots up much quicker than my 7 installation despite being older and more full up with crap. Once booted, my XP installation uses fewer resources than 7, runs at a lower CPU temperature and generally performs better with programs and games than 7 does. Do whatever floats your boat but don't spout bullshit about XP being useless. Windows 3.1 is still 100% useful if there is a program on it which one needs to use. Back on topic: shame they're not supporting XP, I feel sorry for everyone who needs to 'upgrade' their OS but I'm sure it'll speed up the game's development time as a result. -

On the latest (95883) beta and 1.7.2.5 DayZ code, I'm connecting about 50%-100% faster than I did with 1.7.2.4 and any beta patch.

Same here. Happened twice now. Fuck running half way across the map again and fuck playing official Hive servers til this new wave (tsunami) of bugs are fixed. Time to boot up my local Hive again I guess... :rolleyes: -
Hello DayZ crew. I'd like to put forward my suggestion of minigames in DayZ. (I can feel the flaming warming up already) Chess, poker, checkers, blackjack, backgammon, crib, battleships, monopoly, noughts and crosses, connect four...whatever. It'd be brilliant if players could take advantage of the occasional downtime or campfire time to get in a bit of gaming on a chessboard they found :D I realise the majority of players (myself included) wouldn't bother playing these minigames 99% of the time but I feel they could find a brilliant and relevant home in-game. Nothing breaks immersion more than everyone in a crew alt-tabbing or opening the Steam overlay when they have a spare minute. Other than having a VOIP/Teamspeak chat round the campfire there currently isn't much for players to do during downtime. Busting out the chessboard would not only let you kill some time, it would improve your tactical thinking. Gambling AS50 mags over a game of blackjack on a roof in Stary while waiting for more sniper food would be epic. As far as I know, chess and most card games aren't copyrighted. They've also been coded a million times already so implementation (other than working around the Arma engine) shouldn't pose a massive list of problems. I appreciate that people may think this is a shit idea. I'm just riffing. Let us know your thoughts.
