  1. 1) I thought vanilla servers weren't allowed to be passworded/whitelisted because it effectively locks a percentage of people off from joining? (on a side note, I guess the "no locked servers" rule is pointless now since it's so easy to find a 0/50 vanilla server) Regardless of whitelisting, mods still saved DayZ. I don't know how you can't see this. 2) Chernarus is the best map. That's because it's developers were in paid employment. It's not the only good one though. There are other fantastic maps from extremely talented mappers. Broaden your horizons. 3) Real, playable prototypes are infinitely more meaningful and useful than a suggestions forum. The vanilla DayZ (and standalone) teams may or may not implement and closed-test lots of new features and contrasting design decisions regularly but I kinda doubt it considering their manpower and (mod-specific) the relative difficulty of hacking Arma 2 to make it do what you want. Your "humans being drawn to the easiest path point" theory doesn't hold any weight IMO. Even Breaking Point or the "spawn with AS50" DayZ servers are still a more unforgiving and brutal gameplay experience than other games like COD, BF, Angry Birds, etc. If people were genuinely only drawn to easy games, nobody would ever have played the original Rainbow Six or Op Flash or Stalker or Arma 2 or DayZ, and this forum wouldn't exist. A fairly large percentage of people only play 'hardcore' (e.g not the easiest 'path point') mode on COD. Your theory is bollocks, mate. "There comes a point where you have to differentiate between what the majority want and what is actually good for the game." The reverse is also true. Rocket recently changed the reloading mechanics (I think it was that anyway) in standalone based off the feedback from the majority of people who tested the game at Gamescom. Rocket and the team are the designers and creators. They're not the player base. The game is being made for the player base.
  2. Wow. Great attitude there. Mods of DayZ have served many purposes, some being: 1) Fewer hackers. Whitelisted servers saved DayZ, no doubt about it. 2) More content. As fantastic as Chernarus is (it's the star of DayZ imo) people will eventually grow bored of it. Lingor, Namalsk, Taviana, Varkgard, Podagorsk, Sahrani, etc have given people a lot more to play with. 3) More features. X different mods going in X different directions has given devs and players a chance to experiment. I can only see this being positive for the official mod and the standalone. If a mod goes in a shitty direction, official DayZ can learn from it. If a mod goes in a good/uncharted/interesting direction, official DayZ can learn from it. Your Hitler/Coldplay comment is nonsense too. I don't even know where to begin with that.
  3. Haha I wanna see a DayZ map in Africa.
  4. Awesome screenshots! A job well done!

    Chatbox for the forums.

Hello there Nobody uses Steam group chat ever, ever, ever, ever. For some reason. Not sure why to be honest. Rgds £10 Bag

    MASSIVE desert map

Think of a desert map 3 or 4 times the size of Chernarus. Sparsely placed small villages. A few larger towns. Massive distances between settlements. Sand dunes galore. Drink would be a huge issue - you'd need to consume a lot more than standard Chernarus because of the heat. The emphasis would be on finding water wells which haven't dried up, and oases which aren't infected with dead animals or rendered undrinkable with salt, etc. Kinda like Takistan, only a lot more sparse and about 10 times as big, with more of an emphasis on real survival. Sahara rather than Afghanistan. Please :)
  7. Yep. Mainly I wish I could 'forget' the map and the loot spawns. I'm good at map-reading and could get from A to B quickly when I first started playing, but I never really knew what was between A and B. These days, most people, not just me, seem to know every treeline and the best routes from place to place. This is why I love playing well-made 'new' maps - e.g Varkgard on DayZ Fusion. You get that lost and helpless feeling back.

    Where are all the devblogs?

What? Don't mock people with low post counts. It means nothing. About 99% of the DayZ community has a low post count. Most people can't be bothered with forums, and to be honest, this isn't even a particularly good one. Yes, old boy didn't contribute much to the conversation but it's childish of you to mock his wisdom when you can't even spell 'insightful' correctly. As for devblogs...I'm looking forward to the next one as I expect standalone to be delayed so it'll be good to finally get a glimpse (hopefully) of what stage the game is at.
  9. Does your host have any restrictions on what sockets you can open using PHP? I really need to run GameQ (github.com/Austinb/GameQ) on our clan's website but my host won't let me open ports other than 21, 20, 80, etc. so I can't query servers. Cheers
  10. Ganja should be in. Chance of making the user either more relaxed OR more paranoid/anxious.

    Found a Holy Book?

It's not political correctness. It just saves making different books. That's probably why they've done it, pure laziness. Holy book = bible (to a christian) Holy book = qur'an (to a muslim) Holy book = encyclopaedia (to an atheist) Makes sense IMO.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.7 Patch

Blood bags don't seem to be working - we keep getting kicked whenever we try to use them. Other than that, awesome update!

    Any knowledge on SA requirements?

Apparently if you can run Arma 2 DayZ then you will be able to run DayZ standalone and the performance will be considerably better. My advice is to consider installing XP if you're not on it already. I triple boot XP, Ubuntu and W7. Running DayZ in XP rather than 7 improves my framerate by about 50%. I'm not sure exactly what engine they're using for standalone but I suspect it's still pretty similar to the Arma 2 engine which was designed for XP.

Web designer / Video maker needed ! :D

Depending on what you're able to offer I might make you a custom website. I've always wanted to do a site for a clan/server.
