Why is server switching even allowed? What is the logic behind that decision?
[email protected] replied to antnxx's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
What happens when a servers full and you and your friends cant join? You want to sit around for 2 hours trying to get in, or would u rather go join another server? Being able to carry your stats and items with you allows u continuity of play wherever you go, rather than ending up with several half-assed characters all over the place. There are better ways of preventing combat logging and server hopping rather than a brute force method such as seperate characters per server. -

Per-server character might work if the servers were owned and run by the game company, rather than by players or other third party's. Would suck losing a character youve worked hard on and survived long with to admin abuse or if for instance, they shut the server down because they got bored or something similar. -

Funny stuff! -
As a stopgap method to improve fps you could try an external laptop cooling solution, like one of the stands that has an inbuilt fan to suck some heat away. God knows most low-mid end laptops get hot as hell if u do much with them. Might not help an awful lot but theyre fairly inexpensive, other option is get a decent pc/laptop.

I don't expect any better from the scrubs but we're meant to be smart enough to kill other players so please...

A lot of things about gaming culture and grammar annoy the hell out of me, 1337 sp33k being one of them, but it's not really worth making a thread about. -
From what I've read, forests are gpu intensive, and cities are cpu intensive. I think gaming laptops sometimes have an expansion slot for graphics but as yours is onboard i doubt it. There were a few guides about changing onboard graphics but it involves a lot of soldering and would likely end in a buggered laptop. Do you find your laptop gets very hot when youre out in the forests?

One character per server / why sandbags, barbed wires, and toolbox are useless
[email protected] replied to Etienne's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Sorry if i didnt make myself clear, but i dont think that players getting around your wall of sandbags and stuff by server hopping is actually a problem. Being able to cordon off whole areas makes it possible to hoard tons and tons of items for you or your group with little or no risk of anyone else getting at them. This would mean that youve removed a large chunk of the survivor aspect, dying for you will have little impact as you would just go back to camp and rearm, then move straight out again. I dont think this is really what the core idea of the game is about. Sorry but i have to disagree with you on this :P -
One character per server / why sandbags, barbed wires, and toolbox are useless
[email protected] replied to Etienne's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I posted what i thought was a decent solution to this problem in one of the other many threads on this subject: http://dayzmod.com/f...server-hopping/ Posted 29 July 2012 - 03:07 AM I thought a good way to stop ghosting might be to give servers a 15-20 minute "memory" of every player who leaves, and their last location. If a player rejoins within that deadline and their location from the hive doesnt match the server record then that player is forced to spawn in that last known location, which is then updated back to the hive again. After the deadline has passed the record of the player is deleted. Would prevent ghosting being particularly useful in a combat situation, but not prevent people circumventing cordons (i dont particularly agree with cordoning off whole areas though). -
Theres tons of DayZ content on youtube. I like Jackfrags' stuff the most though, generally pretty amusing: his latest "Call me DayZ" was hilarious.

WHAT ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!?
[email protected] replied to lucker's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Have u tried dying for new spawn? or changing server first? -
Nicely done, although they sound more like utter retards than cold hearted killers :P Half expected some Dads' Army style intro to start when the map with the arrows popped up hehe. Just goes to show that you can have all the gear in the world and still die to your own ignorance and poor planning!

Changing back packs in DayZ

Mousewheel over new bag: open bag, then open your current backpack and move your items into the new one. Then pick up the new one, job done. -
Anyone else thinks it looks a bit squashed, like the AR is a bit off?

I seem to remember that fraps will drop the games framerate to what you are recording at, but why its going lower is probably due to ingame settings. Have u checked out the graphics tweak guides on these forums?

Steam sale broke this game.

Am i the only one that took advantage of the £15 BIStudio store sale long before the steam sale came up? (You could also purchase the steam version or their own spanner thing version from them directly). -

What about zombie herds along the roads a la Walking Dead? -

I dont think you'll find anyone willing to unban you because at the end of the day, you are the one that handed away your "id" to someone else, no one made u do it or stole it. The fact that someone may have taken advantage of your gullability to get said ID is nigh on unproveable. I think the person you should really be speaking to is your friend. Or are they more of an aquaintance than friend? -

Steam Copy, invalid/bad CD error
[email protected] replied to JojoMeylaerts's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Very odd, had you already installed the mod and beta etc before u ran OA that first time? I'd suggest running steam as an administrator, verifying the cache of both arma 2 and OA, then run arma 2, close it, run OA, close it. Then install and run Six Launcher, let it update to beta and install the mod for you. Find a server in six launcher and hit join. -

Should Dayz have more npc enemies besides zombies ?
[email protected] replied to radosm's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think perhaps having groups of military patrolling the airfields and other high-end military loot spawns in hazmat suits, shooting everyone on sight (anyone who has been exposed to the contagion) might be interesting. Would make it a bit harder for people to camp/control those spawns, although im not sure what kind of situation would arise with the zombie spawns there, perhaps some sort of endless firefight as the military try to hold out against both infected and survivors.
