  1. Just a friendly question, how did you divide the weapons to classes, and why? I mean, why exactly do medics get FN FAL or a random crap weapon? All the primary weapons take the exact same space anyway, except for ammo of course, but those listed weapons have fairly low size ammo clips/mags anyway. Besides, why is a medic role even absolutely required? Even if someone carries two weapons for some reason they should have space for some blood, bandages and morphine. Probably painkillers and epi-pen too. When everyone in the team carries some medical supplies, keeping people alive is much easier anyway since the closest person can just do what is needed instead of hoping a medic can get to place. Also M14 and FN FAL both work pretty brilliantly for what you describe is soldiers' job.

    Not about survival anymore..

The logoff master snipers are pretty frustrating indeed. Earlier today a friend was running to me so I can give him a spare gun from my bag. Someone starts shooting him with M14 or DMR judging by the sound and keeps missing. The shooter happens to be between me and him so I run to him. As my first AKM round hits the shooter (he starts bleeding so I know it hit) he logs off. I thought my second shot just put him unconcious but he was just plain gone. Then we proceed after the sound of an AS50 we hear. After a few minutes we manage to spot the ghillied sniper and we both open burst fire from 50 meters or so. He dies - my friend gets a murder - but the corpse dissapears instantly thanks to log off. Logging off to avoid death is just total bullshit. At least some random bus driver a) dared to drive a bus B) didn't log out when I jumped out of building and shot him to the cockpit didn't log off so we finally got my friend a sniper rifle again. Oh well, I understand why the anti-materiel rifles are so popular. No logging off from one shot kills.
  3. What do you expect? Anyone is a potential enemy and most people also carry stuff like food that's always nice. Besides, murder count increases when you shoot someone! I've stopped killing every single unarmed person, but that applies only to people with no real (axe doesn't count unless they come close) weapons or no easy access to weapons. Or of course I'm friendly when I don't have a proper weapon myself.

    Full release - Map discussion

As for theme Chernarus is great. Tropical island like Lingor (custom map) or Mediterranean island like Limnos (ArmA 3) just don't have the same feel. It doesn't really have to be ex-soviet state though. Imean, the only thing making it one now is all the russian text. Even though there are some Soviet/Russian weaponry, there's also plenty of western European and American stuff anyway. I do wish the new map would be an island though. The current 2km empty forested zones at edges are just boring places to go wander to find camps or vehicles. I'd much rather have those replaced with water or at the very least have those zones way smaller. This way all the vehicles and tents would have to be stored in places where people will actually have a chance of finding them by accident when they travel between landmarks. In general I would like a bigger map only if server populations go up too. Honestly though, current Chernarus could easily handle at least 100 if not more players if the player spawns only were more spread out. It's no wonder Elektrozavodsk and Chernogorsk are so crowded since they're fairly small towns where every freshly spawned player wants to go and most spawns are fairly close to those too. If there were more spawns around Berenzino and probably around some of the inland towns too it would feel far less crowded - though those inland spawns could be annoying. The beach is a nice "people spawn here"-indicator. No random stumbling upon your party by fresh spawns when you are in outskirts of an inland town either (and since it's beach, even the inland sides of shore towns don't have people spawning on top of other people) So yeah. Bigger map if networking supports it. Island or at least far smaller edge areas - possibly also flatter and less forested. Preferably using assets similiar to current ones or at least those based on non-southern European/Northern American towns. It's not like I'll avoid buying the game even if it just has Limnos or Lingor or old Chernarus though. Oh yeah, I'd also like to see some slightly bigger building complexes. Like a bigger military camp or a bigger airport. Those shouldn't be too taxing on resources since they'd probably still be smaller than any of existing Chernarus cities. I'd also like to see at least one city that's considerably bigger than any of the current ones with some taller buildings. They don't have to be skyscrapers, just closer to 10 than 3 floors. Also while I don't think all buildings have to be enterable, more of those would be nice. Especially in the smaller towns where buildings are smaller too.

    What's your ideal server?

Ideal is everything off. I can accept 3dp and crosshairs though, but I will not join any server with nameplates.
  6. Stupid question. I'd play DayZ in non-ArmA engine if it just had most of the features ArmA2 engine has. I mean, sure, if they licence something and add features or make their own, I'd be happy with it.
  7. I don't really care why you do this, but what you do is awesome. Everything that kills snipers, regardless of if they are bandits or not, is respectable endeavour. I don't really even hate snipers, I just like to see them die since it's the most cowardly of all the combat roles in the game (alongside a possible spotter) and probably the one that on average is the safest. I've done some sniping at some point, but it's so much more fun to run around with an assault rifle.
  8. AS50, M107, L85 and maybe SVD are pretty stupid. But honestly, the only weapon I'd be willing to totally remove is L85. AS50, M107 and SVD just need to be rare as hell, and especially ammo for them needs to be rare as hell. Currently it's impossible thanks to duping and ammo refill bugs, but eventually they might become weapons that cannot be used 24:7 anyway provided you even find one.

    Gun nerf is bullcrap

Survivors in DayZ should not wear body armor upon spawning. Getting it later on could be fine, I suppose, though I find it a bit lame that a clip from either .45 pistol won't kill without headshots. I mean, a whole clip. Even with body armor that should at least knock you unconcious. Also realism or not, for game balance this is kind of bad. Previously you could get very lethal weapons (Lee Enfield, .45 pistols especially) very easily and kill people with the highest end stuff when they come kill the lowly bean warriors of the south. Now you really need to get an assault rifle fast - or well, winchester might be decent enough.

    The Best Sidearm In Dayz

M9SD is the only even remotely decent sidearm. If you have a primary weapon and don't have M9SD, you might as well just carry 8 bandages or even better: bandages and some M203 HE grenades if you happen to have a launcher in your primary. Pre-patch it was M9SD or Revolver/M1911 depending on preference and availability. While the sidearms are now closer to each other in terms of quality and the 9mm stuff is actually probably better than .45 stuff, sidearms in general are just pure garbage apart from M9SD thanks to being silenced, which is always a hugely helpful thing

    Weapon Nerf Poll

The weapon nerf makes absolutely no sense for pvp and for pve higher tier weapons remain completely unnerfed compared to the lower tier weapons made nigh useless. This change should be reverted in DayZ away from the Arma2 1.62 levels back to 1.61 levels and some weapons (9mm stuff, both smgs and pistols) should probably even be buffed a bit. To gain this new intriguing "zombies don't die like flies" effect zombies could just get like 50-100% more hp (all headshots should still be kills)
  12. It made the game more challenging against zombies, yes, that is probably a good thing. It also made the game just retardedly stupid when you have just spawned and encounter someone with military gear. Before a good revoler/M1911 carrying survivor could at best bag someone with a superb high tier assault rifle. Now it's nigh impossible. What we need is: more blood to zombies (but instant death on any headshot still) but damage reverted to pre-patch on weapons so pvp won't be as horrible as it is with pistols now. Seriously, 9mm pistols and SMGs could use a major buff instead of the nerf they got. MP5 is probably the worst primary weapon in the game, and it's actual military loot. It's fairly quiet, but you need to empty half a clip (whole clip if using pistol ammo) to kill a player, and that is just making it pointless. All pistols are currently just not worth using either if you have any primary weapon. Better to carry 8 bandages or grenades for M203. That's why current damage nerfs are retarded and to increase challenge zombie blood amounts should be increased instead to: a) make the changes affect high tier weapons too (any assault rifles and machine guns apart from AK74 variants are still exactly as powerful as before) B) to not make a full clip of a weapon emptied to a chest of a player not kill (M1911, Revolver and Makarov have this issue in current patch)
  13. ...but who watches the watchmen? The exact reason why banning people for various reasons is forbidden by DayZ dev team is that people will abuse such privileges. It goes the other way too. Your solution expects server admins to spend their time watching people. Some admins wouldn't do that since hey, it's probably boring as hell in the long run. Many more just prefer to use the VOIP themselves too, so why bother watching if people us it? Your solution simply does not work,. Besides, what would prevent people from communicating a bit with the ingame voice chat and more important stuff with third party voip? Oh, and what about LAN parties? Would you still be forced to use ingame voip when the person you're talking to sits a meter to the left from you? Seriously, this is just simply not possible to enforce realibly. Automatic software shutdown mechanisms will fail because people will either disguise their voip software or run them on other computers (also this solution is so very draconian that many will hate it just in principle) and this kind of tell people to stop and punish mechanic will just fail to the required policing. When you set rules or laws in general, you should always consider the enforceability and the public opinion. It's completely pointless to make something forbidden when it's both something people - probably majority, but at least a very major share - in general want to do and nearly impossible to effectively enforce the punishments for it.

    Weapon Changes in ArmA2 1.62

Well, submachine guns were terrible primary weapons even before. Now they're even more useless. In real life zombie apocalypse I'd probably be thrilled to find a submachine gun, as they're potentially more devastating than assault rifles at close range, are somewhat more quiet and are shorter. In DayZ I'll rather use a hatchet. I don't really agree with the AK74 + variants nerf either. Nor the Lee Enfield one. The pistol nerfs may be fine against zombies, but it's ludicrous that a full clip of most of the pistols isn't enough to kill a player with chest shots.
  15. Oh yes, it's as much an exploit as is using out of game maps. There's just no realistic way to prevent it. I mean, even if the game added some very very very unagreaable and draconian system that forbids my computer to use a voip software I can bypass it. What will I do? I'll plug in my microphone and speakers to a laptop and use it for voip and have the game sounds come from my headphones. Anyway, it'd be retarded if you couldn't use proper voip. The range of direct chat is so short that it makes so many things so damn hard. We need a yell channel that can be heard to at least 100m. I still wouldn't use it for team communicating, but it'd be neat for shouting at other survivors. This thread and poll are both pointless. People will always use external voip if it gives a clear enough edge and game developers can not avoid that.
