If I was hungry after a firefight where I survivied in this situation in real life, I wouldn't go looking for a cow to shoot or risk death looking for a can of beans. You don't HAVE to do it. The point is choice, options, realism. I'm probably one of few people that doesn't care about cannibalism in day to day life, however in a survival situation I don't have any issues in eating what would otherwise be left for maggots so I don't have to waste precious kcals looking for some morally-correct dinner. That and I like thinking outside the (sand)box. I see what's not there and wonder "Why not?". Anyway, you can only eat certain kinds of bark. I know what they are, do you?

Drop tents. Save. Wait for server restart. (usually 24 hours). Then return and place items in tent. Don't forget to save in both cases. Other than that, they can be buggy since the game is in alpha. It is a pain when you get something good, but don't get too attached to your stuff. There's a possibility that they were looted too. Hard to say. Could even be a server reset or reinstall?
