well you are, you're saying two wrongs don't make a right, i'm saying it's just a part of the game and people will either abuse it or not. I'm not suggesting its "right" to abuse the feature... just that it isnt "wrong" because it's an easilly accessible feature anyone can use - not a "cheat" or something like that. It's not realistic of course, but everyone has different monitors and 'what monitor you have" is an abstract concept from the game's point of view. People need to be able to adjust for it with an abstract parameter because it simply is an abstract limitation in the first place. Aside from the technical side of mods probably not being able to control it, i mean.

The Buddy System [Friend spawning mechanism]

Wat? It's not to be LOOKED at as softening the brutality or dumbing it down' date=' but it is in fact removing a difficulty. Alright then. Why can't locating your friends be part of the journey? Besides, once you do it once, you can log out in the same spot and "buddy spawn" as a reward for having found eachother and stuck together. You keep artificially separating "adventure" and "finding your friends" - Can you explain the distinguishing point? And now it's my turn to strawman you. What's enjoyable about dying to bandits? Friendly fire should be off on all servers. What's enjoyable about losing all your loot when you die? We should preserve loot. -
Because it's likely to be impossible to control, un-ideal to control, and not a problem in the first place. Everyone has equal opportunity to whore this feature, or refrain from whoring it. I don't see how YOU can sit there and talk about "right" and "wrong" in the context of this game.

well it's not unfair, because everyone has equal opportunity to use it. Aside from this i really doubt mods have control over gamma to "enforce it." Even if it did, then we're putting players with darker monitors at an unfair DISadvantage, because they cant correct their picture with gamma.
-
the gamma control wont actually introduce more information to the screen. It just "slides" the range of the values, i suppose you could call it. It doesnt actually stretch the visible range. IF you turn it up all the way to max you still have as few colours as if it was representing only a very low range, only brighter. Well, it might increase perceptible contrast too i guess, but this still isnt more information. If you look at near pitch black areas you still wont be able to discern a person hiding in them as you would with NVG. You're still at a disadvantage, and NVG will make things immeasurably clearer. The light levels in arma are generally realistic. If it's a full moon you can see about as much as you would IRL in the country at a full moon (though the fact that it's the country makes no difference here as there's no lit up cities nearby)

Ok, writing it up again. If i sound like i'm being short with you i promise it's not intentional, i'm just frustrated that i have to write it all out again and probably being a little frank to save time. &c.The S&W the russians used wasn't a schofield but a specifically designed "russian model" which had a slightly shorter barrel and a cool looking spur on the trigger guard. It'd be a nice addition and maybe something of a prestige item to carry around a black powder revolver - but i have no idea how many are still in civilian hands IRL. Er... Sure. While we're at it let's put in an enfield EM2. My point being these rounds aren't likely to be found in civilian or military hands in our time.

The Buddy System [Friend spawning mechanism]

I was illustrating the absurdity of removing something which is an integral part of the gameplay, or dumbing it down, or making it automatic. -
Er, i wrote a huge reply but something broke and it just turned to a quote of your post.

i was thinking actually, that it'd be great to be able to leave notes around. Imagine leaving a note at your tent saying "fuck you. I'm coming for you. I don't know how i'll find you but i will."

Navigation is simply a part of the game. Yes it takes ages to find your friends, but this is one of the challenges. The better you are at navigation/observation and estimating distances and things like that, the faster you'll find your buddies. It's a facet of the survival skillset and diminishing its importance in the game diminishes the authenticity of how survival is portrayed. Navigation is as important as combat. Your idea is kind of like suggesting that we make a mechanic where you can click on a zombie and your character will go into AI mode and fight the zombie til it's dead, automatically. -
sorry, who the fuck cares? The mod itself stands on its own merit. You could call it Barbie My Little Pony Zombie Fun Time Simulator and it would still be awesome (albeit infringing on someone elses IP.) "Lemonparty The Game" - I'd still play it if it played like dayZ.

+1 bro. I hope we can see different loadings of the .22 as well. Sound is so important in this game.

OA does have an interface to adjust sights, i kind of hope they move to custom weapons which have it. -

The creator kind of indicated he feels this way in a recent interview... And tbh i hope he's completely stoic on the matter. -
afaik "manual bolting" cant really be done in arma. You can animate it to operate the bolt like in i44 but its apparently a bit tricky. I suppose seeing as the team seem pretty savvy with animation in the arma engine, they might be able to pull something off

Guns in eastern europe seem to be easier to come by, espescially in the balkans. At any rate, i think there needs to be reasonable access to firearms for the mod to work. As for guns being more rare in the UK.... Wouldn't that mean reloading supplies would be in lesser demand too, and thus not as present? -

No place to find anything is unrealistic. Someone could die anywhere. In buildings it's more likely someone would hide something or just die for lack of supplies, or kill themselves. Surely you're not assuming the "timeline" of the mod sees us as the first wave of survivors? Zombies atm outnumber people usually about 4:1 at the very least, so there's been a lot of dead people, plenty of which would have been attempting to survive and hoarding supplies and going into the same buildings you're going into when you find these things. And yeah, my point was that you could make ammo crafting a thing but you'd need to create an artificial demand for it by reducing the scavengable ammo supply. Also keep in mind that for ammo crafting to be feasible you'd need to find enough materials to craft ammo. This would mean powder, wadding, shot or bullets, etc. These things would realistically be in shorter supply than plain old ammo other survivors have hoarded. On top of this i think just maybe you might be underestimating how involved hand loading modern ammo is. You can't just cast lead bullets like in the old west....... well, you can, but it wouldnt be great. -
I'm familiar with the ToZ. That in fact, was the exact family of weapon referred to in the literature i mentioned. They made a couple of models. I think the book referred to the 8 mostly. An SKS would be great, but i question the relevance of a nagant when an enfield is already in. It's pretty much close enough, gameplay wise

i think he's referring more to the demographic that "scripted" quests appeal to, than the actual origin of the mechanic. I agree with him on that point, quests or any kind of scripted story in this would be stupid and contrary to the aims and strengths of the mod. -

You're saying its a bad thing that you dont just shoot everything you see and have to use your wits and be sneaky? That's like 90% of what makes this mod awesome. And i take it you must have almost never encountered a bandit. Zombies are a relatively minor threat and treated more like an ambient obstacle' date=' a problem to be solved, than a true opponent or antagonist. To what end, exactly? Considering how dangerous towns are already, imagine what would happen if bandits knew exactly what building you were in? Having said that, maybe it could become an interesting thing that you dont necessarilly do to use for your "base" but to attract attention. I dunno. I'm not outright opposed to this idea but i question how much point there would be when scavenging ammo is fairly effective already. You'd have to purposefully nerf scavengable ammo to make room for a crafting feature- the crafting isnt addressing a need' date=' but creating one. Maybe think about it for a while? We're clearly not mid-crisis or mid-collapse-of-society here. In a plausible scenario people would buy all the food up and store it in houses pretty fast, if there was even the slightest sign of things going to shit. I mean people did this over the "millenium bug" ffs. I disagree. I don't think finding food in an urbanised or even semi urbanised area should be a huge deal. -

sorry if this is necropost but i strongly disagree. The upkeep for weapons already exists in the form of ammunition, which for really good weapons is quite hard to come by. The need to keep your weapons "fed" coupled with limited inventory space has the net effect of guns you can't supply being abandoned as if they were broken anyway. Anything on top of this would be needlessly adding complexity. On top of that, it's unrealistic. As has been mentioned.
