A suggestion to drastically reduce the murders

and someone with such good taste, too! FWIW: i actually like the dynamics of human interaction in dayz. There's already incentive to play as a group, because you can't possibly carry a weapon suited to every single situation, can't be looking in every direction at once, and having friends also going around looking for stuff even when youre not playing benefits you as well. What you're actually asking for is more incentive to play co-operatively with randoms you don't know. This isn't a thing. Even if everyone had some kind of reason to preserve other players, such as a stupid abstract class system or something, what happens when your group reaches a manageable size and all "roles" are filled? Do you just bring on any other people you encounter, splitting all your loot with them for absolutely no benefit? The logical next step from here is, if you're alone, and you encounter a group or even a lone guy, how do you know if the guy is in a group, and how do you know if that group are already stocked up with troops and have no possible use for you? Do you chance it and hope they have some use for you, or do you shoot them because there's no feasible way for you to obtain this information without making yourself vulnerable to them? If they have "enough" people to fill all these roles, you're useful as one thing to them - a moving loot spawn. It makes perfect sense, and is perfectly realistic, that humans divide along "tribal" lines in a post apocalyptic scenario. In primitive human society there would have been every reason to kill neighbouring tribes, and alliances would be based mostly on people you already happened to know and their families. It might sound brutal, but seeing as there's no pressure for reproduction in dayZ, there's no real reason to leave unknown "stranger tribes" alive. In reality women would often be taken because they're a limiting factor in reproduction and thus a limiting factor in the tribe's ability to obtain new, definite, allies. I would argue that resources in dayZ are even more scarce, this is particularly true for obtaining the means to resolve violence in an influential way. That is to say, the items which give players most control over their own fate seem to be the most scarce - so it's even more competitive than real primitive societies probably would have been. Of course there would be cases where you are in a situation that is conducive to being "actually friendly" but they'd be comparatively rare. This is already the case in dayZ.
  2. I've been encountering more and more cheaters who spawn in with tons of high end guns and stuff lately. Naturally i have no idea how these cheats actually work, but it would seem like they'd need item classnames to be able to spawn in items for themselves, right? Is it possible for them to actually find the classnames of items they want by digging through the PBOs? If not, what if all the dayZ weapons were actually duplicates of the default arma ones, with a long string of random numbers in the classname, and then the default arma named weapons could be rendered inoperable. Assuming the classnames are actually needed for hackers to spawn in items, and assuming the classnames cant just be dug out of the module files, it would seem this would deter hackers at least for a while? And for those who don't realise this is a problem, take a look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQSf3-cYWUo
  3. yeah, of course. It occured to me he could have just lucked upon a guy with that exact gear, but that would mean he also lucked upon a ghillie suit, and an appropriate weapon with ammo to kill a guy with such high end gear... He arrived at the site of the altercation less than a minute after our guys did, and our guys ran there without touching any loot or engaging any enemies, from cherno beach.

    Where is the .22lr?

yup, aside from that, a bunch of the ww2 ones used special saboted ammo which i would wager doesn't actually exist anywhere at all any more. I can't find numbers for how many suppressed ones they produced but i would imagine the low thousands at most. And most surviving ones would probably be in vietnam if not in the hands of collectors

    joking, right?

    AI death squad

"here's a mod radically different to pretty much any game in existence currently, and it's gotten enormously popular because of how unique it is. How can we minimise the unique elements of this mod? any ideas?" It's like people go out of their way to try to ruin things.

    Change time on server.

a lot of server "groups" already have some running on -12 local time. Did you check them all? I still advocate server admins putting the local time in the server's name. But whatever.

    Campfire guitar.

remember to play it nice and loud in the middle of cherno so everyone can hear it. You know, i'd be happy to model some guitar amps so you can hold a cool concert! I'll watch through my scope from outside town. Just remember to turn them up very loud. ...And in cherno

    Notes from the wasteland

The only time i can see this being really useful is placing them in tents or vehicles. Otherwhise it just seems like they'd pretty much never get found.

    New Zombies/ Small Bosses?

...Let me show you the door,
  12. This might be something you're already planning and i realise it's a content-demanding suggestion. Luckily i'm a 3d artist and if you (the team) are reading this and like where i'm going with this i'm more than happy to help provide the content to make it happen. Firstly, the 1866 winchester is a bit weird. It obviously shouldnt be firing shotgun shells but I gather the devs already know that, and the '66 was just something they had access to. I'd suggest bulking out the shotgun lineup instead with a single barrel break-open gun, maybe in .410, an over-under gun in 12 guage and something like a winchester 9410 or one of the marlin lever guns if they make them to fire buckshot... I assume they do. On top of this i feel there's a distinct lack of .22 in the game. From all accounts, it's a great survival round for hitting small game, easy to carry in vast quantities and produces relatively little muzzle report. In the partisan's handbook, published by the soviets in the 40s, the .22 is recommended for sentry removal. Most bolt action .22s would be a perfect fit for this - they'd take different magazine sizes, have different loadings, and maybe the possibility of finding one with a cheap scope mounted on it. Maybe one of the winchester 5x range would be a good pick. A ruger 10/22 would be great as the next tier up. Same deal, but semi auto. Then you could have a pistol, either a colt woodsman or a ruger mk1-3. .22 would add a great new dimension and the option of sacrificing some stopping power for discretion. It would also give a great civillian-y feel to the game. Aside from this, i think most roles in the game are filled weapon wise. There's always room for more variants on the same basic thing, like something firing a bigger cartridge than the CZ maybe, or a CZ without a scope, or maybe something firing .22 hornet or magnum, or 6.5... i dunno If you wanted to go into mad detail you could have different effects when you shoot game with them. A massive, energetic cartridge would leave you with not-that-much rabbit left, but would be great for shooting bandits or zombies. It also wouldn't be a great pick for urban expeditions. Similar to how currently, a scoped rifle is great in the field but not so great in the urban spots as a self defense tool. There could be a third kind of dimension to that - whether you want to opt for a true "survival rifle" which will do a great job of keeping your belly full at the cost of magazine capacity or in the case of .22, stopping power. Air rifles would be an excellent half-way point between a .22 and a crossbow too. The obvious problem they present is how you handle ammo. My suggestion would be each "magazine" for it being a tin of pellets and firing single shots only. I have wonderful visions of quietly popping a few into a z's head from not-so-far-away before entering whatever barn he might be standing out the front of. Finally, i suppose a kind of anti-suggestion. I suggest avoiding focus on fullauto weapons wherever you can. So far the mod does this wonderfully. I havent read extensively all the suggestion threads but I hope if there are any significant numbers asking for more military style or fully automatic small arms, they are pretty much ignored. This game has a really unique atmosphere going on, and is probably the only true zombie "survival" game i've ever played. Kudos. And from the interview i read with rocket... Man to man, you're a completely sick dude in my books. Your philosophy seems spot on. Again, if the team wants to make any of this happen and needs the manpower, do hit me up. I have worked with the arma engine before, i know how to get models and rvmats and all that going, from experience working on australians at war - which i guess maybe a lot of the mod team have played around with themselves. I would be happy to help if there's any need.
  13. fwiw, i think the render distance is only about 500m. EDIT: Can you give me an example of someone youve seen in dayz shooting over 700m? A: Did you do this yourself? B: Or did someone shoot you from 700m away? If "B" Then i think it's pretty obvious why you're asking for scoped rifles to be removed.
  14. alright, i think it's safe to say this idiot is a troll.
  15. Nobody's saying windage isnt a thing... It's just not a problem in the mod...
  16. .22s, .308, as well as some shotguns and pistols, actually. But that's besides the point, I didn't want to get into a faggy argument about who's a cooler guy with you because it's not actually relevant.
  17. lmao, just shut up asap. What a hopeless appeal to authority. Even if you were the recognised expert on shooting, ever, it wouldn't make your suggestion valid. The game isn't about balance. And it's not "one fps against another" - The games have entirely different design objectives.

    How to balance Bandits.

yeah, this place needs some serious moderation. It seems the more idiotic suggestions are in huger numbers because the idiotic people making them are too lazy to search for existing thread. It makes their voice disproportionately loud and drives real considered suggestions down.

    Water bottles vs. ponds solution

seeing as you're evidently a good scripter i would assume this is all calculated clientside but i have to check, it's clientside right? No weird technicality disallows you from doing it?
  20. nah, you're straight up wrong. Balance makes sense in CS because it's a lot more like a sport. This is a sim, and when weapons are found randomly around the place, the idea of balance goes way out the window. comparing this to CS just makes you look retarded, and will never endear you to any arma fan, ftr.

    How to balance Bandits.

wait, why the fuck are we balancing anything?
  22. harryzhe

    Insanity system

this is kind of dumb and abstract, and wouldnt fit the rest of the game. Players already kind of "go mad" with distrust. I've seen people turn from good guys to people who shoot any other human they see.
  23. the fact that you're even comparing dayZ to counter strike makes your opinion totally invalid
