    Why punish bandits?

    Hell, most "bandits" get killed regularly and usually just have the regular survivor skin while trying to kill you. I shot 2 guys who were shooting at me with shotguns, and now I'm marked for death with a brutally obvious headwrap.

    I was looking down my scope at the Elektro power plant on SE 6 to scout it out before I went in. Some guy, not noticing me, walks down the hill not 10 metres away from me. I go into crouch and put a few .45 rounds into him, and his body disappears 2 seconds later. Fine. I go back to finish up my scouting. 45 seconds later, he logs back in, and puts a few m4 rounds into me. Fuck you, dude.

    I just found an M16A2, AK-74, Remmington, and AKM all in one firestation in Cherno. The worst part? I won't use any of it because I already have a DMR.

    He was shooting new spawns, had NVG's, a GPS, an AS50 and a DMR in his backpack for some reason. I didn't take anything but his coyote backpack and DMR, couldn't resist the urge. You must be very short-fused. I died a million times before I found any cool loot.

    Don't have the backpack space at the moment, plus I find that the DMR can function as a good medium-range weapon when fired from the hip.

    If the snipers are sniping from inside buildings in Cherno, they're most likely codfags and deserve to die, no matter via exploit or what. If they're waiting around the hills, in the forests waiting for travellers, they deserve an honest fight.
  10. We shouldn't have shit loot like smoke grenades anymore. Every supermarket, fire station, and sniping spot should have a box of infinite as50 ammo. Also, the doublebarrel shotgun is OP, it should be removed because I see way too many of them. Actually, the AS50 should have a machine gun magazine, plus a thermal sight, and bipod for recoil reduction when I'm just trying to automatically fire my 30 pound .50 caliber sniper rifle. Even though this would weigh well over 50 pounds, speed should not be reduced one bit to ensure balanced gameplay.

    Crossbow Bolt idea

    I think that in standalone a quiver should be added, which is like a magazine, and can hold 5-25 arrows depending on how generous Rocket is. While you have this equipped (it could take up your secondary slot?) you'll automatically collect arrows within a 1m radius (simply run over your targets to get arrows back) and they'd stack until you hit maximum.

    Pricing.

    Rocket didn't see a cent of those purchases of Arma2:CO, even though 85% of the purchases from June till now are probably because of DayZ. Sure, I might say that players who sign up in the first little while should get a small discount (10-25%?) but Rocket is still a human and deserves to see some cash for his long, hard work. I have no problem paying for this standalone.

    Too many Guns.

    My issue is not with the amount of guns, but the ratio of military to residential guns. In the list below, only the guns in bolded, red text are common weapons owned by civilians. Also, by finding common guns, I think common ammo could also be a benefeit, see below. G17 M9 M9 SD - Suppressors are not common possession for civilians. In Eastern Europe, you wouldn't have seen many. M4A1 M4A1 CCO M4A1 CCO SD M4A1 Holo M16A2 M16A2 M203 M16A4 ACOG AS50 AS50 CZ550 DMR M14 AIM M14 EP1 M24 M107 SVD CAMO M136 My point is, I think there should be more civilian weapons in the future, especially rare bolt-action rifles which could compete with the jackass snipers who camp the NWAF with an AS50. These could all be found at residential/farm areas. My suggestions would be: Residential: Remmington Model 700 (Common bolt action hunting rifle, .308/.223 civilian version of the M24. 5 million ) Mosin-Nagant Rifle (Commonly found post-WW2 and even today throughout Europe and Russia, uses the same 7.62x52mm ammunition as the SVD-CAMO.) Could be the rarest Civilian weapon, with/without scope. Likely an upgrade to the Lee Enfield everyone loves so much. Farm: Winchester Model 70 (No longer produced in US, still produced in Europe/Asia. .308 ammunition.)
  14. After doing a bit of research, nobody seems to know where the map in the standalone game is going to be set, and Rocket hasn't made any announcements. Nobody even knows if there's going to be one or multiple maps. So my question to you, the DayZ forums, is (assuming there will only be one map,) where do you think it'll be set? Where would you prefer it be set? In my opinion, I'd like either a Chenarus remake, or to have it set in a state/province in the northern US (Michigan, Wisconsin?) or southern Canada (western Quebec or eastern Ontario?) Leaves the game open to the possibility of winter and cold, common availability of weapons from all over the world, both civilian and military, and lots of variance in the landscape (rivers, forests, plains.) I find that even on the servers that are hosted in Germany/Russia, the most common language spoken in-game is English, and this breaks the immersion of the player - the game is set in a region where Russian is spoken.

    If you want to start with a high-powered rifle, NVGs and full military equipment, go play ARMA. The whole fun of DayZ is the struggle to attain these things. If this happened, DayZ would simply turn into a straightout deathmatch as there wouldn't be anything else to do.

    So much agreement. Once, on a server of about 30 players, I had shot one guy with a revolver and looted an AKS-47 Kobra outside of Cherno, however his friend was closeby and managed to nick me in the leg and break it. By the time I whipped around to return fire, he DC'ed. I morphined myself and for about an hour tried to regain blood, looking for animals, as I had only ~2000 left. By the time a zombie knocked me unconscious and started chewing on me, I felt a sort of relief that I no longer needed to protect the great gun I had. But whenever I die due to a glitch, e.g. climbing over wire? That shit gets me mad.

    Quick, simple little question, why the fuck would someone want to be a survivor with a water bottle and flashlight while they could just start with a ghillie, NVG, SVD and M9 sil- WAIT, isn't that everything a player spends hours looking for in the game? Better idea time! Civilian/Scavenger: Basic class. Starts with a makarov OR m1911 + 2 mags (maybe he had a conceal carry permit,) watch, 2 cans of food and 2 cans of soda, a flashlight, and 1 bandage. Patrol pack. The only class that starts with a gun. Survivalist/Hunter: Effective at surviving without looting towns, can survive without stepping foot into a civilized area. Starts his game with a hatchet, hunting knife, compass, map, empty canteen, matches, chemlights (randomized color) and Czech backpack. Mechanic/Engineer - Not my best idea. Starts with a crowbar, road flares, chemlights, a jerry can, toolbox, compass, and watch, along with 2 cans of food + 2 cans of soda. Has everything he needs to get out, find parts and vehicles, and fix 'em up. Let's be honest, it's gonna be really difficult to kill anyone with a crowbar, and let alone find a vehicle, therefore I think this class is underpowered. Doctor/Medic: Medical professional who has a holy red armband. Starts with just the czech vest pouch, secondary ammo filled with bandages, 1 can of food, 1 can of soda, 4 epi-pens, 4 morphine auto-injectors, a tent, and his vest pouch filled with blood packs. I know this would require custom skinmaking, but I think it'd be worth it - once he attains 1 murder he loses his armband. This is sort of a reverse-bandit system, as an unwritten rule could arise that doctors are there to help survivors, and bandits should think twice before firing at an unarmed medic (with his kill-virgin armband) who's out to do no harm. But then again, the opposite could happen and doctors could simply pick up a handgun and kill someone who was gonna give them a chance. Even if he killed someone in self-defence, the fact that he had the ability and weapons to do so should declare the fact that he's probably not a trustworthy guy who's just out to give you a blood transfusion.

    Yes! I definitely like this idea. Perhaps jerry can + empty whisky bottle = molotov cocktail, which you require matches to operate/throw. Holed up in an apartment building with bandits climbing the stairs? No problem. Chuck one of these handy incendiary devices down and watch those fuckers burn. Also, broken down cars should contain a lootable battery, which when combined with a jerry can + watch could create a bomb with adjustable timing. Perhaps the best way to provide a distraction while you slip past that sniper who's camping Stary?
