Our host does not currently allow time zone changes, sorry.
  7. The ArmA Engine is built this way to allow the community to mod it, battleye does what it can but the fault lies in the way the game engine allows users open access for modding and run scripts etc. It a catch 22. You want mods and user created content but by coding your game engine to allow this is it opens it to abuse. Online gaming servers can only be kept free by active admins. Battleye, punkbuster etc are only a back up, a secondary service to a well administered server. If you cant be online much then trust your comminuty hand out the rcon to players you trust. Increase the chances that you'll have admin online and ingame and ban the hackers. As for this problem with the rules....pffffft. Ban them, its your money, your subscribed service paid for out your own pocket. Your right. People will troll you, try to get you blacklisted and if they succeed so be it, Do you think a server provider will refuse you another server and turn down business? Hardly NO ONE connects via IP. its all name based searching. You might lose a week or two, at worst a month of prepay but if you still feel like running a server just get another. New server instance ID and location number. Who within your community would search for the server by number anyway? It's the last (and only custom) bit of your server name that make it unique. e.g. mine is 'PC Format <3's Multiplay'. I couldn't give any less of a shit if I got trolled and got blacklisted. So what if our server changed from UK00 to UK10,001. Our community will play on, they will know what's gone down They know and trust me. Most suspected hackers get logged for me in IRC by players on the server. I then check scripts.txt etc and ban as I see fit. The core of the problem is the infectiveness of banning. GUID are spoofed, IP's changed, you cant keep them out. Most hackers have warez versions. The fact they are even playing online with a warez version is the problem as they have nothing to lose, no financial investment when they are eventually flagged and banned by battleye. So this leaves us with layers of additional DRM to combat legitimate game verification and that a whole other shit storm....
  8. Only if they runs Guru's server, anti rockets just show as DayZ. Private databases are the way to go. This was a experiment after all, the conclusion of which is if you build it it will get trolled.

well it seems to be working, I now provide a home on our DayZ server and TS3 for 4 groups, each of about 4 or 5 players. I cant say for sure how much interaction there is between the groups as I don't eaves drop, but they are mostly all on every night. I have lots of room left for many more groups.
  10. what are the other 5% doing...? It more like 30% locked or passworded and of those I bet 90% are running private hives I run a private one too as well as a communty one. I only play on the prviate one now as we can set the rules, only play with invited people and we have a lot of fun. I'm all for a white list, those paying60 quid a month for what, a start/stop button... Ive banned a few peeps, not had one complaint. All pro-active bans too. I reckon the lack of complaints comes from them spoofing a GUID or IP. as Im sure the hackers come back as the names are similar, GhostGoat, MrGoatte, TheGoatBotherer etc....

What do you think about non-hive servers?

'Have you asked permission?' or 'your stealingz hiz worx" Gallop back in on your high horse's once you've deleted your stolen MP3's and avi film collection. I hope the poster above me is correct and these private hives are getting some form of official backing. Part of the community clearly wants it.
  12. boomnet@blueyonder.co.uk

    Private Servers okay ?

Strong communities are forming around private servers with private hives, some even have rope play elements new rules such as no PvP zones, group bases (safe areas) etc. The players all agree to the rules and stick to what is allowed and what's not. With access to the private hive punishments can be given out to those that break these agreements. e.g. PvP in a restricted zone may earn you or one of your group a 'hand of god execution'. Sure, Its reliant on a honest admin and if you find one then that server thrives and you'll find the roleplay brings whole new depth to the DayZ experience. I would like to see this community version of dayz embraced by the devs before the whole experiment comes to a end. With admin's able to throw in server events, like forest fires, massive random hoards, plane crashes, wild dog attacks, and the the ability to reward and punish players.
  13. Just in case of any confusion.... My names Brett and I run UK00 - London. The only thing Ive abused in the last week or so are cider and sausages.
