Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)
TheSedated replied to SmashT's topic in General Discussion
And there you got something wrong and totally out of context. Here's the video, and for your convenience, it starts exactly at the point of the presentation where he mentions what you quoted there. Sadly, I set the starting point where it actually makes sense and not where it's just an out of context yay-he-totally-wants-us-to-PeeVeePee comment. So, what did he talk about there? He talked about degrading equipment and even about "if you shoot someone with NVGs in the head, the NVGs will be heavily damaged". And this is something he thinks is better than make PvE-only servers or penalizing PvP. I'm totally with Rocket here. If you shoot someone in the back and he's got a precious weapon on his back and it is hit, the weapon should be badly damaged. Ghillie-Suits after spraying a full 5.56-mag at the guy wearing it? Oh, damn, it's only usable as rags now. When this system is done and working as intended (and what we already have in the game points into this direction and is far from finished yet!), it will create the mentioned tension by other players. Will he shoot me? Will I shoot him? Are we going to trade with each others or will I or the other guy just wave and leave the place soon after? Add in a better zombie AI where the zeds don't glitch at stairs or through walls and can climb ladders... Then shooting (i.e. ringing the dinner bell) will become a lot less likely. You know, why waste a bullet on someone and 30 to 100 bullets for the horde of Z's for something that might be destroyed by the shot you fired at the guy? If this point is reached (I don't know how Rocket thinks about this, but I'd say, lowering the availability of weapons and ammo ingame would also be a very good addition here), there will be no need to have PvE-only servers or penalizing PvP. Because, PvP each and everyone you see and hunting freshies at the beach won't take you far then. -
Not even that. The ArmA 2 campaign is quite good and totally worth it ("We've got possible war crimes here." - "Yup, definitely war crimes."). Haven't finished Operation Arrowhead though, but it's also good as far as I played.

Okay, as "CoD is more expensive" wasn't that serious, here's what I think about it: 1. Zombies are annoying at the moment, but not that much of a threat. They deserve better AI, some bug fixes and some things done to the spawn mechanics. Firing a gunshot inside of a city should be very, very dangerous for the one with the gun. 2. Ammo is too common. There should be actions taken to prevent server hopping for gearing up, maybe something like " 'nother server, 'nother character". It should be a decision if firing a shot is really worth it or not. You have a gun? Great! You see someone wielding an axe? Also cool. The axe guy waves, then turns around and leaves? Totally okay. But now you have to choose: Shoot him, or let him go? At the moment players are going to shoot in 9 of 10 cases. If they have only 10 bullets and don't know when or where they find more, it'll be less more likely they'll waste their ammo. 3. Let server owners decide on some rules. There are lots of KoSers on these forums saying "Everyone can play how they want to play. And my playstyle involves KoS. If you don't like it, don't do it.". That's, in all honesty, is a bullshit argument, spread in every game these days. In MMOs it's "give damage meter" most of the time and the argument is "You don't need to use it, but give us the possibility". Result: In most of these games you aren't able to use all of the content without using a damage meter, because that kind of shit spreads and poisons the community. I've seen it several times. I've seen KoS in early DayZ mod, I've seen KoS in MMORPGs (long, loooooong before DAoC or WoW), I've seen damage meter elitism in many MMOs. In WoW, KoS was avoidable by not playing on a pvp server (in AO, for that matter, you often didn't have a choice... Just imagine the WoW-community's reaction over an endgame PvE world boss encounter deep inside of a PvP dungeon). With current server guidelines it's more like the damage meter problem. If you don't adapt to the KoS-playstyle, you're screwed and won't get anywhere far in this game. It would get a lot better for the "carebears" with whitelisted servers, but those are forbidden at the moment and will be at least until private hive servers show up. A way to make whitelisting less problematic for the game overall would be, indeed, " 'nother server, 'nother character". If you can't gear up on non-PvP servers, you won't impact pvp servers with that gear. Yup... maybe in 'merica where everyone and his child has a gun. In most of europe, though, KoS would mean a lot of melee fighting, leaving KoSers at least wounded and more likely to die -

I'm actually a bit worried about all this hype around SA. I really want to play it like everybody else, but from a lot of posts and threads on this forums, I really hope Rocket will take the time and ensure everything works in a somewhat good way before releasing the SA alpha to the public. I know from other online games which released in beta stages (and some for "money", too) what a hell of a shitstorm it can create when you charge money for a product and release it in alpha or beta status to the public. There will be a lot of threads "ohmygodz0rs! fix dad damn game! I payd 4 it u idi0ts!" when the game is buggy and/or unstable at release. And suddenly that hype around the game turns into a massive shitstorm, demotivating all developers involved. And don't tell me "This won't happen here!". I think everybody who has played DayZ at least a year ago remembers all these "I paid for it! Fix that damn game!"-threads not only over this forum, but over a lot of gaming forums, too. And hell, they didn't even pay for DayZ back then and it was and is still in alpha. I don't know how many times me and others told these guys that they did pay for ArmA II and not for DayZ and that DayZ is a mod still in alpha status... But what do I know? I can only say, Rocket and the whole team, take your time, release a stable and somewhat bugfree alpha. But doesn't matter what you do, I'm going to buy it as soon as it's released. I will help you guys with every bit of feedback I can.

Hacking/Exploit or Grenade or Bug?
TheSedated replied to derricw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hmmm... Are you sure you hit him? Because, you know, I think I wasted about 50 Makarov mags when I started to play until I realized that aiming with a pistol (and some other weapons, too) is not very accurate without pressing right mouse button or using ironsight. Especially when you are running before shooting, you can easily miss even at point blank range. If you had approached me like that and missed but didn't stop shooting after I said I'm friendly, I would also pop a grenade. But what's the reason for shooting a single guy in the wilderness anyways when you're in a group? Every solo player with half a brain wouldn't start shooting at a group of people next to him. A sniper from a 600m away buldingor something would do it, but shooting at a group that is standing 5m from you is suicide... Given they don't stand all at the same spot and I don't have a M4 or something comparable. -
Yeah, just had this idea and think it's cool somehow. Post your own ideas if you want to! Fade-in inside a hut somewhere in Cherno. A person sitting on the floor, crying and shivering. The person is holding a soda can in its hands. A voice from the off: "You've seen the world go south. Most of the people turned to zombies. You somehow made it here, to Chernogorsk with nothing but your clothes and your bare hands." Fade-out and fade-in into a scene on the street not far from the hut. A man is shooting down another man, looting and eating the baked beans the first man had with him. After the killer leaves, zombies come to the dead body and eat from it. Voice from the off: "You've seen a guy who killed another guy just to steal his beans. You've seen zombies eating from the dead body." Fade-out and fade-in, back into the hut. Voice from the off: "You ran into this hut where you found a soda can. You sat down in the corner, you got overwhelmed by your feelings. You're shivering and crying. I heard you when I came near this hut. That's how I found you. I know how you feel. The world is a messed up place nowadays and most people you can't trust. I can assure you, I'm one of the few people to trust. But, unfortunately, you're holding a soda can and I'm damn thirsty. This is DayZ. This is your story. But you..." You see a hand with a Makarov lifting on the lower right side of the screen (like first person view ingame). Voice from the off: "... are dead meat." Fade-out. Gun shot. Fade-in of the DayZ logo.

Ever played a pratical joke on another gamer or noob?
TheSedated replied to thelonewarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I met a noob on the beach near kamenka a few days ago. He ran up to me and I pointed my pistol at him. He asked if I'm going to shoot him. I said, he should go down on his knees and pray for his life. He went crouching and started to beg for me to let him live. So funny. I got behind him and meant "Dude... I'm standing behind you and pointing my pistol at your neck. You know what really pisses me off? It's beggars like you, asking me to let them live. But I'm a nice guy today. I give you ten seconds to get out of my sight." and so he ran off into the woods nearby. I saw him again twenty minutes later. He went to his knees again. I said, he should get up and it was a joke. As I saw that he wasn't carrying a weapon, I asked if he did take a look into his backpack since we met the first time. He didn't. But then he saw the pistol and the four mags and the food and water I put into his backpack the first time we met and was very thankful. -

The engine being red is possibly the reason why it was left out there. I'd say the original owner is out there trying to find some engine parts.
