Sir, I present you with my beans. I have been wanting to suggest a "weapons degrade" option for a while, (melee and military). The unique property DayZ has going for it, is uncertainty in gameplay. That's what creates immersion. Fear and paranoia are so crucial. I think the more that players are disempowered, the better, whatever your play style is. Whether you're a hatchet-wielding hippy who likes to crack zombie skulls, or a tooled-up super soldier, I think everyone who enters the DayZ world needs to understand that uncertainty, while unpopular to some, is vital to emergent game play. In fact, here. Have a second can of beans. :beans: :beans: :)

Rocket's baby is destined for standalone. He's talked extensively about it and how he would like to see the player base controlling what happens inside the world of DayZ. This project should be measured by what it can build. By what it can accomplish. If I were a desperate, starving survivor of an apocalypse, I would become resourceful pretty quick, or die. I don't think crafting or combining is up for debate. I think it's intuitive and inevitable.
-
Maybe not crafting, but combining, the way you can already repair cars and other vehicles.
-
I would carry duct tape at all times in a zombie apocalypse. A knife taped to a stick might be useful for spear-fishing at lakes, then cook the fish over a fire.

There is a product called "Pseudo Corpse" that uhh....does what it says on the can I guess. It's used to train police dogs to hunt for bodies at potential crime scenes. You could smear it on yourself to mask your scent, but as Filmmaster says, that's not how they currently sense you. I don't know, but if you put that stuff on yourself, you'd probably feel sick and suffer blurry vision at the very least.

Jousting with bandits. Mmm....
-
If they develop this into a future release, there might be other rare items that could spawn here. - Magnifying glass, for lighting fires - Vitamins - Rehydratable Food (TVP) - Geiger Counter Or there could be nothing down there but pain and regret. :P

Ok, so the forums are littered with mixed ideas about the purpose of DayZ. Some prefer wilderness survival. Others want to player kill. Many of the kick-ass among you are bored that there are no definable long-term quests, or no way to progress beyond a certain status on the leaderboards. Ladies and Gentlemen, since we're all a little bit messed up, a little bit twitchy, a little self-destructive, why not have an overall and highly contested goal to NUKE CHERNARUS off the face of the planet? And film it while you're at it. You heard that right. Imagine if each server had a carefully hidden "Football", i.e. a briefcase with nuclear launch codes. Inside that briefcase is classified info on how the DayZ outbreak was initiated, and instructions on how to arm and launch nuclear warheads to target key installations in Chernarus to end the nightmare once and for all. Let's face it, one warhead would probably do, but we'd only screw that up and there'd be a few survivors complaining about radiation poisoning, so maybe we just make it "overwhelming destruction" and there are multiple warheads to do the job right. Let's break it down - The football (the briefcase) spawns in a random but highly secret location. - The football is not transferable between servers. - You log out, it stays at the last location you were at. - If no one claims it within a certain time, it respawns again. - A future DayZ release would require a launch facility (a missile silo). - This is a team effort. i.e. two launch keys need to be turned simultaneously. - While the launch codes are entered at a third console. - The facility will need to be powered up until the point of launch. - This is an extremely rare event that could only happen, say, once every 6 months. - Players, or teams of players are encouraged to fight for recognition. - Once Chernarus is nuked, everything is reset on that server. Yeah, I know... The only thing worse than dying in a zombie apocalypse.....is *living* in a zombie apocalypse. If there are no rules, and no point to it all, then at least consider assured destruction as an option. Sure it would be great to see the game develop into something more fulfilling. Trading communities and a player constructed "New Eden" are worthy examples. And these can be rebuilt. But if you were caught up in an apocalyptic mission with a "Cold War" flavor, and various factions were trying to stop you, and you posted your attempts on YouTube.... You know it makes sense. :beans:

It just means everyone dies on that server and starts over again. So it's still endless. Just a healthy culling once or twice a year can't be a bad thing. If you know there's gonna be a nuclear shit storm, based on forum chatter, then move to another server. There are always going to be ways around stuff like this. It's just a way to keep the more ambitious players engaged. The ones who like to blow shit up.

That's the beauty of this idea. Some will approve. Some won't. And the same point of difference and motivation that currently exists between pacifists and aggressors might be put into fighting for or against a morality issue like this. Personally, I have preferred wilderness survival so far. You wouldn't believe the things I've eaten.... (joke). But I think it's high time to call people's bluff. If there is so much rage and destruction abound, and a desire for limelight in the form of video evidence, then, my friends, let this be it.

Because.....you know.....we're all mushroom cloud layin' motherfuckers. B)

Yes, I would prefer it that way too, but teams will still sandbag/razorwire a location just because they can. The main purpose for a below ground single access area is to create paranoia, especially for solo play. The greater the risk, the greater the reward. Then again, this is DayZ. You're just as likely to sneak into a house, creep down into a dark cellar, and step on a god damn bear trap. <_<
-
I don't see why not. Maybe a few variations, depending on the building itself. A wine cellar beneath farmhouses and churches. Maybe a communal bunker beneath barns or other large buildings? If you've seen Terminator 2, you'll know survivalists keep some rather large hardware in their bunkers. :)

Unconscious Player Interaction.
Hatchet_Man replied to TheBadger (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Search for "DayZ dragged" in YouTube and you get examples like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_IjHhLsO18&feature=related There are other longer videos that show this happening where players use the mouse wheel menu over a stationary/unconscious body and have a "Drag Body" option. -
Unconscious Player Interaction.
Hatchet_Man replied to TheBadger (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
In answer to your first point: dragging unconscious players is already implemented, though I've never tried it myself. There is a YouTube video showing a player being dragged at the Balota Airstrip. I can't find the link right now, but try searching YouTube. -
Good feedback gents. Hopefully we'll see variations of this in a future release. Maybe farmhouses with explorable attic space too? Single access point via ladder up.
