Online Debate: What is the Best PvP Gun in DayZ?
puppetworx replied to DayZPvP.com's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If I'm knowingly going into a danger zone I always pack the FN FAL. It's an absolute beast with a long reach. Mk48, AKM and even the SAW are more then adequate second choices though. -
Streaming makes you a bit of a target. Still I prefer this method of scaring off other players:

The People's Free City of Berezino [Safe-Zone]
puppetworx posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What if there existed a place without snipers, a place where ragheads and aviators aren't around every corner? What if this place had abundance of weapons and loot; a hospital, two supermarkets, an office, a cafe, 6 apartment blocks, 3 deerstands, 4 military tents, 6 barns and helicopter crash sites right on it's doorstep? What if vehicle spawns surrounded the city, and industrial buildings within it were bursting with vehicle parts? What if such a place does exist but nobody goes there because it's so far away from player spawn points that no-one wants to spend the time traveling there? This is a call to action, if you want more PvE and less PvP, if you want a virtual safe-zone, if you want to make friends and trade in game - head north to Berezino, NOW. -
The People's Free City of Berezino [Safe-Zone]

Duping and scripting pushed the balance of gameplay so far in favor of PvP and away from survival that the idea was largely untenable. Which is why I billed this as a movement or 'call to arms' rather then just starting a clan which would be doomed to failure from the start due to the mod's issues. Come the standalone I think the opportunity and demand will be there, but until then I just want people to go and see for themselves. I think it's really possible in the standalone, especially with more enterable buildings, Chernarus+ may offer up an even better location then Berezino. Still I think Berezino has a lot going for it. Just to be clear, what I don't want to do is 'lockdown' the entire town. At the most I would intend to lockdown one of the compounds in the city, the 'lumber mill' for example. The rest would be free for people to roam, loot and kill zombies. Locking down all of Berezino would be next to impossible. From a base of operations we would send out patrols to police the city from PvP. In addition to patrols we would have squads ferrying new spawns up from the South in vehicles (cars, boats, helis). Of course we'd rotate duties and that's not an exhaustive list of what we'd get upto. We'd have to raid military locations and scout for bandit camps regularly for example. I think policing a town could be far more enjoyable then locking ourselves away from all danger up north in our camps and then venturing out for hours in order to find some sort of interaction... and then spending a few hours venturing back to our camps again. The risks are higher but so is the interaction level and I really want to do it. -
I'd watch that show.

Pay 2 Play Whitelistings.... not on i think
puppetworx replied to Tubzy's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's an understandable solution given the problems that the DayZ Mod has faced. Since they're adding value (filtering) I can't have a problem with them charging for the added service. However, hopefully in the standalone measures like this won't seem necessary or be profitable. -
Trading Dota 2 for Arma 2: OA on steam

Call me a skeptic...but this seems like an elaborate ruse, maybe I've been playing too much DayZ. I don't trust you fuckers anymore. -

I've been playing with the in game music turned off for weeks and I find that the game is far less immersive without it. I love the music - very creepy and paranoia inducing - the trouble is I have a competitive disadvantage if I leave the music on and others turn it off. So I tend to just turn it off. So I was wondering, how would people feel if muting of the music was disabled in the game? I'm sure this will be controversial. Release the kracken.
-
I see that point of view but at the same time I liked it. The music has a way of keeping on edge - the way you would be if in a post-apocalyptic world where people around every corner were out to get you. I would say that I'd be a happier leaving the music on while others didn't if some of the ambient sounds were removed, certain ones sound deceivingly close to branches breaking and car motors. Those sounds may lead to you taking the wrong course of action which can get you killed and that may be considered 'too punishing' (though certainly there are visual elements which could be accused of the same, such as seeing a boar or tree stump and thinking it's a player). One of my favorite sounds is the distinctive rim-shot that seems to come out of nowhere, definite tension builder but it can't be mistaken for anything else.

Do you trust Rocket's vision?
puppetworx replied to Judemoukari's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think what he is saying is that he prefers a game with a little cerebral activity and a lot of balls to juggle at one time, as well as requiring tactical skill. Your typical shooter (COD,Battlefield, CS, etc) is tactical skill based you don't need to keep awareness about 20 different variables which will affect an outcome, outcomes are basically decided with perk/weapon ladders, physics (usually greatly simplified physics) and reaction times. On the other hand strategy games don't require much tactical skill(stating the obvious), reaction times and physics play only a minimal role and your success depends primarily on your planning/adaptation ability and how good you are at dealing with a large number of variables. DayZ has taken ARMA - which is basically a tactical game with more realistic physics (ATVs excluded) - and has added a lot of small scale strategy - eating, drinking, healing, looting are significant variables on the outcome which you have to juggle. DayZ reminds me of the great fun I had playing games like Rainbow Six, Grand Prix 3 and Railroad Tycoon (before I started playing DayZ I was on an insatiable Railroad Tycoon 2 bend, it still holds up). But there's actually much more to DayZ then these games because although they offered a fusion of hardcore strategical and tactical gameplay simulation they offered limited storylines. DayZ on the other hand is wide open to story creation. These days there aren't many are hardly any games made which are willing to be so demanding of the player on both tactical and strategic fronts. From what he has said I don't think rocket wants to get out of this 'hardcore' niche, in fact he seems to want to introduce even more balls to juggle - which is fine by me. -

Rocket is definitely on the right trajectory. areyouseeingwhatihavedonethere? I just hope the morons out there don't dissuade him from his intended target because every fragment that I have seen of the standalone looks both intercontinental and ballistic. -

How could you trust a man in aviators? -
Same, you never know when you might need to stuff a load down your throat (no homo).

I can never find decent military gear
puppetworx replied to BwobBwub's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I get most of my high tier loot from players tents and heli crash sites. Anybody with a browser pointing to DayZDB.com can find their way too the barracks - so no wonder they're always empty. -
Paying 1 Euro for one life 10 for 10e w/e, not requiring to buy the game, how would your playstyle be on such terms?
puppetworx replied to DreyX's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'll have you know I had the 3 highest scores on the leaderboard for Crazy Taxi at my local arcade and the girls would literally crowd around to watch me play. Granted there were only 2 girls in the place but still they would actually stop playing Dance Dance Revolution to watch that shit. My highest score I don't even know how long I was playing for, all I know is that I put 50p in, went full immersion mode all up in that bitch and it was like some kind of outer body experience. People started coming upto me and saying "Wow, are you still going on that one game, how is that even possible?". So I'm more open to the idea then these other people, in fact I'm kind of surprised at how a lot of people here won't even entertain it. I find that extremely closed-minded. There is huge potential in this area for some really engaging game experiences, I agree that DayZ isn't exactly the model candidate due to the hacking, but come on, have some imagination! One thing is for sure: I wouldn't be in no fucking hero skin! Survival would become way more important then it is now and I think my immersion would increase. I don't think I'd be hitting autorun while I went to make a fresh brew either. I'd stay out of towns much more, use cover more while in forests and I'd actually be careful not to agro zombies. I would probably always play as part of a team too. It would actually have a huge impact. Actually OP doesn't go far enough though. He's introduced real cost but where is the real reward? I don't think it's compelling enough in a non-competitively structured game to just offer risk. Modern day games have already learned a lot about risk and reward from gambling but they've yet to go all the way. What if you structure the game more like an online poker game. The server designates how much a life costs (the stake say from £0.20 to £20) and each player also pays a small commission (say 10% of the stake). The combined stake from all players are then distributed randomly about the map in loot piles and on zombie corpses. When you kill another player you get whatever money they had on them and when you log out, you take your earned cash with you. Now I'm not saying that's the way DayZ should go and I'm not saying that any game is secure enough to do that, but what I am saying is that I would play the shit out of that game. -
New Hacker Griefing Technique
puppetworx replied to Muncywolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It's not just a debug monitor. I experienced the same thing on UK 25 (my own favourite server) on two consecutive days. The first day it was called Teqwahh's Monitor and the second day it was called Monky Monitor. It claimed to provide anti-hacking capabilities and would kick people from time to time. Sounds good right? Well it also prevented you from saving vehicles or tents, which is a bummer. It also made the server lag heavily meaning if you logged off within a reasonable amount of time of picking up an item (5mins) it didn't register in the hive and the item was gone when you logged back in. You also couldn't refill jerry cans at all, but that wasn't a problem because with all the server lag you could dupe as many items into existence just by moving them back and forth from your inventory and backpack. After a few hours of play the server is so crippled from the hack that frame rates drop to under 10fps for everyone. No problem because you play on a server with regular restarts right? Wrong. The hack also disabled the restart and required admin intervention. It's not much fun. -
Tent movement is driving me insane
puppetworx replied to Dayzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This was bugging me too, I'm not sure how it happens but my tents always seem to move downhill. To be honest I shouldn't be able to place my tent in the middle of a pine tree on a 45-degree incline though... -
Be very careful what you download off the internet, not everybody in life is friendly - you should know this from playing DayZ.
