I too have experienced this heart pounding adrenaline rush when staring directly at another player. I shot his mate and he came for me with such speed that I noticed him only as he came appeared on the stairs below me and ducked to cover out of my view. I fucking ran.

It's commonly used for loot hoarding purposes on some servers. I was in the railway station in Elektro when the town was raided by a clan, 5-8 players I believe, two constantly in an off-roader the rest on foot. They first assaulted the buildings killing anything in sight (this was before the latest patch increasing zombie aggro and weapon nerfing, but I believe this type of raid is still done). I hid as soon as I heard the vehicle coming and was paranoid as fuck from all the gunshots ringing out around me. They hit both the fire stations, supermarket, the school and church. I watched them doing the central fire station, they drove the offroader to the gates and men covered the roads leading to it (I imagine they had sniper overwatch also though I never heard or saw it) One of them then went and dismantled the sandbags, barbed wire, hedgehog blocking the tower of the fire station. Then the tower was looted and the obstacles were replaced. I imagine they were duping the barbed wire etc. otherwise they'd have to visit a lot of industrial building in addition (though it is fairly common stuff as no-one really uses it other then for this type of thing). Then the offroader drove off and the rest of the players stealthily snuck off. I stayed put for a good few minutes to make sure the coast was clear before getting the fuck outta there. Was kind of cool to see as it was so professionally done but I hate when I can't get too loot. So now one of the first items I want to find after spawning is a toolbox. Even if there is no fresh loot spawned I always dismantle obstacles if I have the time, just to make the hoarders life a little harder.

Holy shit same thing happened to me yesterday! I fucking rolled off thinking the wall would stop my roll but I rolled up and over the wall. Almost came raging to the forums to complain about bad in-game physics. Respawned at Otmel and ran the whole way there, got all my stuff back.

Getting food/drink/hunting supplies is easy. Step 1 - Find a gun Step 2 - Shoot a foo' Step 3 - Loot dat bish Step 4 - Swagga away Plenty of people use this strategy.

I agree about night time being like a totally different game. DayZ Commander has the ability to sort servers by time I highly recommend it.

Survival in DayZ is easy once you have 1. Hatchet 2. Matches 3. Knife 4. Water Bottle It just so happens that the easiest and quickest way to get them is by picking up a weapon and shooting the first person you see in the face.

I prefer not to aggro zombies but I like to run as often as possible. If I am going to get close to zombies I always have an escape strategy in my mind. Usually this consists of me making a note of a safe looking building I can run into and deal with the zombies from there. Most of my deaths have occurred by getting shot from the back, usually by an unseen player, especially snipers.

Ghillie suit? I'll throw in a grenade too if you want (it's a trap). No but seriously anyone want a Ghillie suit?

Once broke my legs turning round while prone in a small space. Luckily it was behind the wall in the hospital and not a single fuck was given. Dying is one of the best thing in DayZ though, not just because tooling up is one of the best parts of the game but because you realize that you never really owned anything. The more you try to own your stuff the more it owns you and the less fun you have. Now I just roll with a Lee Enfield and if something better comes along great, if not IDGAF.

I will not shoot on sight a new spawn with just standard equipment or a player without a weapon. I generally do not 'shoot on sight', I first observe their behavior. If their behavior is hostile to me or another player with lesser weapons (especially the unarmed) I will shoot. Beyond that I have no rules of engagement every situation is different and any codified rules will be deficient.
