    Widescreen glass

The windscreen glass is used to repair a car. While it is not necessary to get it working, it might just save your life since it will provide limited protection from incoming gunfire. You can repair up to 4 windows on a car (front, 2 sides and back). I hope this answers your question.

    camoflage face? (profile)

That's quite odd. I remember I had this back when I had a normal arma 2 and operation arrowhead on steam. Try to copy the file you use from (should be the one with ARMA2OAPROFILE) the "other profiles" to "Arma 2 profiles" and then delete the whole folder "other profiles" (back it up somewhere). Update your last post and I'll update this one with any new suggestions on how to solve this problem (just to avoid that we spam the whole forum ;)). Use something like: Edit #1,2, etc. to signify new additions. @Grunt: the first answer on this thread already covers the how, he seems to have a different problem. I realise that to make it a list might be easier for people to follow it, so I took the liberty to use your enumeration (thanks for the imput)

    camoflage face? (profile)

If you use the methode I posted (1st post) they don't have to allow it, since those faces are already part of arma 2, they just aren't accessible in the profile.

    camoflage face? (profile)

I saw that, the link is correct but it seems that the forums don't allow it. I changed the link to the page before that, just scroll down untill you see faces. I just gave it a try and can now confirm that it works in dayz. Have fun with the camo-faces. I hope I could be of service.

    camoflage face? (profile)

Arma2 doesn't give you access to faces with comouflage in your profile. However there is a way to use them: The following info is taken from: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?75231-Want-camo-face (I added a working link and reformulated a few things). Credit goes to Alex72 on the Arma2 forums. "... 1) Open the "Yourname.ArmA2OAProfile" (in Documents&Settings/ARMA2 folder) with notepad 2) Use the search function (press CTRL+F) for "class Identity" and you should find something that looks like this: class Identity { face="Face01"; glasses="Tactical"; speaker="Male02"; squad=""; pitch=0.97714806; 3) Go through this list of face classnames: http://www.armatechsquad.com/ArmA2Class151656165165341654165165165165f/A2/Faces/ (if the above link doesn't work, use this one, scroll down untill you see faces and click on it) http://www.armatechsquad.com/ArmA2Class151656165165341654165165165165f/indexA2.php 4) Choose a face you like and add its classname into the face line. Example: face="Face01_camo2"; 5) Save the file and dont change any settings in the profile section in the game. The camouflage face will not be displayed there. ..." Disclaimer: This works fine for Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, I haven't tested if it works with dayz as well, but there is a very high probability it will. Update: I just tested it myself and it works just fine. Have fun with it. I hope I could help you.

    Noob question (bandit time)

It will depend on what your current "humanity" score is. You'll change to a bandit if your score drops under zero and your survivor status will be restored once you reach 2000 again. You got 4 ways to restore humanity: -bandage other players (+20 points) -administer medcine to someone else (morphine/painkillers +20 points) -administer a blood transfusion to others (+250 points) -you're humanity passively regenerates over time (+30 points/minute up untill you reach 2500 points) The creator (rocket) of the mod is also planning to remove the bandit skin in the future. So if the skin is the only thing that you dislike it might resolve itself ;). I hope I could answer your question. Good luck in DayZ.
  9. 1) if you set up a tent and select the "save"-option in the interaction menue your tents location and stored items in it will be saved on the server you placed it on. The tent should remain where you saved it even after a server restart (some have reported that they lost their tent to a server crash). However if you die it will despawn after a while and you won't be able to pick it up again (you'll still be able to access all items you stored in it). 2) The area around you should stay free of zombies. However the spawning seems flawed and many reported of zombies spawning right next to them. Areas a bit further away from you will get populated by zombies again, after a while. 3) Items you drop will be removed after a while. 4) I never tried that, I'll test it tomorrow and give you an update on that. I doubt it however since with the newest alpha build (patch) a fire will require additional wood to keep burning. I hope this answers you questions.
  10. Try to run Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead as an administrator untill you see the main menue. Then run Combined Ops as an administrator. It could be that Battleye didn't have the necessary permissions to initialise as intended. Let me know if this helped.

    A few noob questions

    1) British Armed Forces and Private Military Company are two Arma2:Operation Arrowhead DLC-Addons. Luckily Bohemias DLC policy is non-exclusive so, if you don't buy it you will still be able to play with others that did and use all skins, guns and vehicles. The only drawback to this is, that you won't see those assets in full detail that's why it sais (lite) because it uses lower quality textures. You can see the effects of that on your ingame character. The skin of any survivor is one from Private Military Company if you compare it to cloths of zombies or bandits you'll recognise that you're cloths look a bit more washed out in comparison. If you value the high resolution textures of these skins and maybe want to play some of the offered missions and campaigns that come with those DLC you might want to buy them. I hope this answers your questions. All other questions were already competently answered.

    accidental death/lag?

I had a strange but somewhat funny thing happen to a friend and me when we were playing dayz last sunday evening. We were scavenging the northern airfield for supplies when we spotted a player beeing hunted by zombies. He fled into the air control tower, we were held up in the tower of the firedepartment building (?) to the north of it. When we realised that he was a bandit we opened fire on him. Later we noticed another player in the building (a survivor) who returned fire with the bandit. After a while we were able to shoot both and checked our wounds: no bleeding, and both were doing good on blood. A few seconds later we're both dead simultaniously. I read in the side channel that many were noticing some lag on the server. Is it possible that we were shot in the exact same moment by the others with no bleeding preceding it and the game didn't register it untill a few seconds after the firefight? Did anyone else experience something like that? We didn't have a lot of equipment so we weren't really sad about it, infact it was funny because we were both telling the other that we just died in the exact same moment with almost the identical choice of words :D

    accidental death/lag?

I'm increasingly confused by the ways I die :D Last evening I joined a server and was dead on spawn although I was perfectly fine the other day when I left (well, dying is part of the game :D ). Then I start at the beach, see 2 bandits (with makarovs), follow them to the southern airfield, trick them and get the jump on one of them when he's accesssing his inventory, I sneak up the stairs and before he could see me or I could see him (1st person view) I drop to the floor - dead. No bleeding, nothing, there weren't any gunshots audible. Does anyone have an idea what happened there? The server was perfectly fine for me with no lag issues at all. Is it possible that he shot me with one shot from the Makarov and the game didn't transmit the sound? I'm a longtime arma 2 player and am used to dying quickly ;) (especially in PR), but that was new to me. Guess, I'll be avoiding any sort of firefight (even against bandits) from now on ;)

Best way to meet up with a friend?

    1) look for any landmarks in your vicinity that could help you to locate where you are. 2) use one of the many maps of chernarus to locate yourself and your buddy and to familiarise yourself with the locations (for example: http://www.maplib.net/fullmap.php?id=14237&legend=1 ) 3) what kyriel said

    Bandit skin

Shooting bandits, at least as far as I know, doesn't yield any positive humanity, it's humanity neutral, since it won't add or substract any humanity points. The idea that it does yield positive humanity seems to be quite a common superstition since I've read it a couple of times on the forums so far. Humanity points can be regained by: -bandaging other people (+20 humanity points) -administering meds to others (+20 humanity points) -administering a blood transfusion (+250 humanity points) Your humanity points should also "regenerate" over time (150 humanity points/5 minutes or 30/minute). Once you reach +2000 you're survivor status will be restored. The game has a self-defense mechanism that allows you to shoot someone who opened fire and hit you (might be necessary that the agressor hits you for the trigger to work) within a 2 minute window without any repercussions. Hope this answers your question

    Beginner's Guide

    1) Wood can be found near/in farms and barns, Edit#1: found some wood in a small wooden shed (there might be other places too) 2) The interaction with yourself (eating, drinking, bandaging, taking medicine) is now entirely over the inventory (g and rightclick on the object). The interaction with your environment (objects, other players) still works as usual). Edit #6: Hello World It might be useful to add the symbols for broken bone and pain/shock to the image. I confused the shock sign for the broken bone sign when I was encountering it for the first time (might save someone a morphine injector ;) ) Again my congratulations on your nicely done guide, had another read and it's in my opinion one of the most complete guides out there, definitely one of the best places to start for someone who's new to the game.

    Connection Problems

The problem that people are experiencing is related to the unexpected popularity of the mod. There aren't enough servers for everyone. The other problem is that the existing servers can sometimes not process all requests from people that join, wait only a few seconds and immediately disconnect if it's not working right away. This puts a lot of strain on the servers to process all the requests. If you join a server be prepared to wait a couple of minutes (up to 10) to get in the game, if you end up at the "debug forest" (all your requests to the server timed out) try returning to the lobby and signing in or connecting to another server. You should definitely bring a bit of patience with you ;). Your computer doesn't have anything to do with this (at least most likely not). However you might experience bad performance if you're pc is a bit underpowered to handle arma 2, but it shouldn't keep you from joining a server. Your internet connection and network setup would have a higher influence than your pc for that matter. Have fun and good luck surviving :D

    Beginner's Guide

I shortly read through it and stumbled upon a minor mistake in your hud-graphic. The thermometer represents the influence of the environment and is so far not implemented. If I recall correctly it is rocket's intention to incentivise realistic beahviour like looking for shelter when it rains. How panicked the player is, is only represented by the heavy breathing of your ingame character. Edit #1: Under Humanity you write that it can be regained/increased by killing Bandits. This might be incorrectl. Killing a bandit is consequence free (no humanity substracted nor rewarded). It might also be worthwhile to mention that shooting a survivor will substact as much humanity as that particular player had, so if his/her humanity was near zero the concequences won't be as dire. Also an interesting mechanic to mention would be that there are no penalties if you shoot another survivor in self-defence within a 2 minute timespan (however he must hit you first, I think, for the game to register it as self-defence) Edit #2: Under controls it might be useful to add: -double tapping the CTRL-key will lower your rifle (doesn't work for the side arm) and will help you to show that you don't intent to shoot the other guy (I did see that you mentioned it in the foot notes but it might be better to put it in this part of your tutorial). -RMB-hold will also hold your breath, so if you do it for an extended period of time, your vision will start to shake. -num pad Enter, will circle between 1st and 3rd person view (servers may chose to not allow 3rd person view). -Alt will allow you to move your head independently from the rest of your body to look around while you're moving in a direction. If you double-tap Alt it will stay untill you double-tap it again. -It might also be worthwhile to add Caps-Lock. Caps-Lock activates VON and allows you to communicate with other players using your microphone. -right-CTRL+M, will bring up your GPS (if you found one) and will be displayed in the bottom right of your screen, like a mini-map. -N, will activate the nightvision goggles (if you found one). It can also be used to read out the grid coodinates of your current position. -/-key (above ENTER), is used to perform a salute. In DayZ it is used by players without a rifle (only sidearms that cannot be lowered/holstered with double-CTRL) to signal that they don't have sinister intentions. -"-key (key left of ENTER), is used to sit down and have a break. It's not essential to playing the game, but it can be fun to use when someone lit a fire ;). -L-key, to switch lights on and off (vehicles). -;-key, to quickly change from your side arm to your rifle or vice versa. -all keys can be reassinged in the options menue. Edit #3: Inventory If I'm not mistaken, items placed on the ground will despawn once you move too far away from them (staching isn't possible that way). Edit #4: Navigation It might be helpful to link these to instructional youtube videos: 1) finding north in daylight using your watch: 2) finding north during night time using the northern star: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df6-M4iAv_o Edit #5: Doors and Ladders & Final tips The bug that causes you to fall down from a ladder when you climb it with your pistol drawn will be solved in the next update. Apart from these suggestions, it looks like a very thorough guide that might help a lot of new players. I can only commend you for your fine work. I'll let you know about anything I see that might improve your guide.

    Saving Cars/Heli

The "save car" option saves the car's state, location and content (you can use it to stache some of your provisions). The car will be saved on the server you discovered it on and so far cannot be carried over to another server (you will need to return to the same server). If you forget to use the "save"-option the car and it's content will despawn. If you saved it earlier and drove it somewhere else, then left the server, it will be where it was last saved. Even if you saved it, it won't prefent other players from finding it and borrowing it (happened to my car ;) ) Hope this answers your question.

    How do I take screenshots?

@Maxovitsj: You know I strive for maximum humanity even in the forums ;)
  23. sherlock (DayZ)

    How do I take screenshots?

If you're playing the steamversion, steam offers you to define what key you'd like to take screenshots with: select steam on the top left of your steam window, then "settings", select the "in-game" tab and define the key you'd like to use. If you're playing any other version some proprietary software like the demo version of fraps might help you. I hope this helps.

Some issues running OA during setup

In order to launch CO you need to start every game (first Arma2 then Operation arrowhead) at least once and wait untill you see the main menue. Reinstalling is in most cases not necessary with steam. Just right click on the game you think might be corrupted (incomplete download), select "properties", select the "local files" tab at the top of the window and click on "verify integrity of game cache". Steam will then check your installation and will reacquire only the files that are missing/damaged/incomplete instead of re-downloading the whole game. I hope this helpes. Please let me know if you encounter any other problems.

    What is Norma, Expert, Veteran?

If it is set on regular, you can see the difficulty in the serverbrouser (bottom right), it will with near certainty always allow 3rd person view. Veteran server most times don't allow it. There are a few regular servers that have 3rd person view disabled but they're only a small percentage. So if you want a server with it enable it's a pretty save bet to join one that is on regular.
