This is just a guess, but try to run Arma and steam as an administrator (maybe only steam will be enough). To do that just go to your steam folder where your game is installed, right-click on the executable of operation arrowhead, "properties" and check "run as administator". I've heard that battleye sometimes has problems if you do not run arma 2 as an administrator. Hope this helps. If not, let me know and I'll try to think of something else ;)

Could you elaborate the difference between searching and directly searching please? I'm not sure if I understand you correctly. The easiest way to look for a server for me was like follows: 1) in the server browser click on "filter" 2) click on "default" to reset any previous filters 3) type in "dayz" next to where it says "mission" If you apply this filter you'll see all available dayz servers. 4) (optional) if you want to coordinate or find a server your mate is on, type the name or parts of it in the input box next to "host" (for example ny3) I hope this could fix your problem. If not, let me know.

There is a contact button on the main page. I think this is what's meant by sending them an e-mail. I didn't see any e-mail address provided anywhere else. Here is the direct link to it: http://dayzmod.com/contact.php I hope I could help you.

You can remap any action in the game to a key of your choosing. In order to do that go to "options" and then click on "controls". You'll be albe to remap any key in the game (the game will show the key you selected in red, if it is conflicting with another function that is already mapped to the key you chose. You can then either select another one or find it in the list and delete it, if it is an action that is neither important to you nor for dayz). I hope this helps. Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

It's a nice idea and could, as the mod evolves, provide useful information about all available items. I would suggest that you add the noise levels for all guns since that might be one of the things most interesting to players. I guess it is still heavily work in progress and that's the reason why the values for all assault rifles (ammo, rate of fire, accuracy) are all the same. Nicely done.

What is the Icon above Temp... [Face]
sherlock (DayZ) replied to JuiceBoxCowboy's topic in New Player Discussion
The face is a representation of your humanity. If it's smiling you're doing good. If it's looking angry, well... you're on your way to be a bandit ;) Hope this answers your question. -
Is the winchester in 1.5.8 still as silent?
sherlock (DayZ) replied to LeYuno (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Slugs are solid rounds for shotguns with decent range and stopping power. Pellets are rounds of buckshot. They spread out at short range. While they offer superior stopping power over short ranges and in buildings, they lose a lot of impact over longer ranges. There is a DayZ wiki. It list all weapons and their characteristics. http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Weapons I hope this helps. -
Is DayZ just one server?
sherlock (DayZ) replied to RenderedUnsafe's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can play on different servers but your characters data (location, equipment, health, humanity etc.) is stored on a central server. You should be able to use the equipment you last played with on any other server. If the other side of your debate was arguing that all data related to your character is stored on one central server they are right. I hope this answers your question. -
Question regarding knee-high grass/brush
sherlock (DayZ) replied to Phippsworth's topic in New Player Discussion
The grass will unfortunatelly not offer any concealment from other human players. It's invisible for the other player but I think at a certain distance your body will sink a bit into the ground (from the other persons perspective), helping to conceal it a bit better. Edit: With regards to zombies it is alot more effective and allows you to get within in a few meters/feet without beeing detected. It is advisable to use it in heavily invested areas. Another benefit is that there doesn't seem to be any difference in the ammount of noise you do if you move slowly or fast in prone. However going fast or slow in crouch will increase the noice emmited by your footsteps and the hight of your siluette. For humans it will also be harder to make out a proned player than it is to recognise a crouched siluette. I hope this answers your question. -
Just go to your profile in the main menue and click on edit on your existing profile or create a new one. It will also allow you to customise your character within limitations (selection of different faces, glasses and the tone of your foice (not used in dayz though)).

Your online character seems to be linked to the installation key of your game. Due to this you won't be albe to create a second character unless you manage to buy and install a new version of Arma2:CO, which might be hard to do since windows will always realise that arma is already installed. I hope this answers your question.

Map markers and name tag questions
sherlock (DayZ) replied to kompster's topic in New Player Discussion
The map markers are enabled server side. There seem to be only a handful that allow it. Unfortunetelly you cannot tell by the difficulty setting (regular) if it is enabled or not. On most regular servers I've been it was disabled. You can be fairly certain that you won't run into this problem with veteran or expert servers. -
Sorry, rocket is right, I guess I'm still mentally stuck in pre 1.5.8. Sorry for causing the confusion. Updated my post.

how to turn off connect/disconnect txt
sherlock (DayZ) replied to cod3r's topic in New Player Discussion
Unfortunatelly there is no way that you can do that yourself. But there are attempts to make the devs of DayZ aware of a mod (has to be allowed server side) that would hide all messages (including chat). Here is the link to the forum discussion over at the bohemia forums, get involved: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?120648-ANTI-Chat-%28Disable-chat-ingame%29 The only thing you can do is to go to your "options", "video options", then select "advanced" and set "interface size" to "very small" which will decrease the font size and in turn reduce the portion of your screen obstructed by those messages. I hope I could help. -
The last big update 1.5.8 (I think) did fix the issue that zombies would not react to chemlights. Due to the fact that chemlights aren't as bright as flares I suspect (didn't use chems after the patch so far) you still will be able to get a lot closer to zombies than you would be with a flare. Edit: You start a fire by accessing your inventory (g) and pressing right on your matches and selecting make fireplace. Once the fireplace is set up you will get the option to light a fire. In the changelog to 1.5.8.3 it was noted "...[FIXED] Fires can't be placed in buildings...", so I suspect that you should be able to light one inside of a building. You can always set up a fireplace outside (ground needs to be flat and unobstructed). There are some servers that do allow a player marker on the map, but they are quite seldom in my experience. Most servers disabled it. Hopefully I could answer all your questions.

Tents have a 0.41% chance of spawning in residential buildings, offices and churches. To maximise the chances of success check out big enterable buildings with multiple rooms. They offer more spawn point for loot. Every spawn point within those buildings has a 40% (a few 60%) chance of spawning something. I hope this helps. The information presented is from a loot spreadsheet (likely to be a bit outdated by now): http://picacid.com/arma2/loot_en.html

How does logging off and items work?
sherlock (DayZ) replied to grey_sun's topic in New Player Discussion
You can also store them in a vehicle and save it. -
How does logging off and items work?
sherlock (DayZ) replied to grey_sun's topic in New Player Discussion
If you log out your character is removed and noone will be able to harm your character during that time. This has actually lead to some people exploiting it and disconnecting whenever they ran the risk of dying. As a response to this there will be a forced save whenever you disconnect. If you disconnect while bleeding you might bleed out during your absence (not entirely sure). Items on the ground will be removed after a while and won't be accessible the next time you join the server. I hope I could answer all you questions. -
Can I somehow create 2 different characters?
sherlock (DayZ) replied to Sullen's topic in New Player Discussion
As it stands now your DayZ character is linked to the installation key of your game. Therefore you'll only be able to have one character at a time. I hope this answers your question. -
Tents can be used to store items for you. Use the "save"-option in the interaction menue after you set up the tent and placed all items you don't want to carry around anymore. "save" will save your tents current location and stored items on the server it's been set up. The tent will not carry over to other servers, so you mind want to write down on what server you placed it. The tent will (after a while) despawn after you died. You will be albe to take out any items you placed in it earlier (if noone else stole them ;) ) but you won't be able to pack it and take it with you. Yes, other players can access whatever you stored in your tent if they happen to stumble across it. I hope I could answer all your questions.

I'd be extremly careful with that. I haven't heard of any armoured vehicles so far, so this seems to be an asset that does not belong in the mod and was brought in by someone using a hack. There is a british assault rifle (L85A2 RIS CWS) and nvgs included in dayz but I'd be also cautious to pick them up since if the tank was illigally brought into the game, those items were as well. There is already someone on these forums who got banned for picking up cheated items. So leave them where they are to be sure. I hope, I could help.

New install - how to recover character?
sherlock (DayZ) replied to sleepless's topic in New Player Discussion
Due to the fact that the game is bound to the installation key of your game, which with the new version (steam) will be different, I think your character is lost unless you install the old version (retail) of your game. I hope, I could answer your question. -
If you died ("you are dead") 1) press ESC 2) click on "aport" 3) then "disconnect". You'll find yourself back in the lobby (you see all player names on the right) 4) select "ok". You will then respawn at a random location at the south beach. If you're new to the game, I can recommend this beginners guide by Elunah: http://www.elunah.com/2012/05/dayz-a-beginners-guide/ It will make your first steps in dayz a lot easier. I hope this answers your question.

Have a look at the guide I gave in the first answer to this thread http://www.dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=5599&pid=51592#pid51592 I provided a link with all the faces with pictures and everything you need ;). I hope this helps.

Wood is (stupidly) found only IN buildings. Mainly barns' date=' residential buildings and such. [/quote'] I found some wood in one of the small wooden sheds that you may find in gardens. But you're right that there is a higher probability to find wood within a building due to the spawn locations beeing mostly within structures.
