Is there any way to see the difference between a bandit and a survivor?
[email protected] replied to grimsonfart's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The players did not decide that zombies don't matter. They simply decided that banditry was a valid form of play. I actually didn't know about this heart beat thing though, that's pretty cool. is it your own heart that beats quicker, or the person he did all the killing? -
I am fairly certain that this is a server feature. So if it's turned off, you won't see yourself. You might just be joining a bunch of servers that have it turned off.

I'm still waiting for one of these threads to provide some actual research and empirical data as to why this mod is failing. Oh wait, you can't. Because it's not failing. There has been no significant decrease in players. Nothing. You have absolutely no proof what so ever to back up your claims. If someone does, I welcome them to actually make a post about it so that everyone can see it, analyze it, and these pointless threads about how the mod is failing can stop. Now I'll tell you what the problem is. You don't like bandits. It's that simple. This has nothing to do with game design or game mechanics. You, on a personal level, you not like them. Perhaps you inherently don't like the playstyle, perhaps you've been killed by them for what seems like endless amounts of times. Whatever the reason is, you don't like them and you're frustrated. And you know what? That's perfectly okay. It's okay to have an opinion, to strongly dislike something. That's the good news for you. The bad news is that you are entitled to absolutely jack shit. This is not your game. You and anyone you play with do not make up anywhere near a significant portion of the playerbase (and on that same note, the people who dislike banditry are seriously outnumbered as well) and the number of people that would stop playing this game if banditry was removed or altered to the point of not being fun is far more significant. You are playing someone elses game. A game is a work of art, just like a painting or a novel or a movie. An artist expresses, and you choose freely to partake in that work of art. Whether or not you enjoy it comes down to personal preferences and tastes. Fun is subjective and personal. You do not get to apply the label of "not fun" on something and all of a sudden it is officially not fun. Similarly, you do not get to come in tyo a forum and claim that a game is failing (especially when you have no evidence to speak of) when it clearly isn't. That's just not how these things work. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but having one doesn't mean you're right. You are clearly in the minority in this situation. If you can't bring yourself to enjoy the game then that is unfortunate. However, the only option in such a case is to stop playing it. You obviously have a right to express your opinion on the forums, but making baseless claims doesn't help you at all. Especially when that basesless claim has been posted on the forums repeatedly, over and over and over again. If you are expecting not to get trolled, you're doing it wrong. tl;dr Fun is subjective and personal, you have absolutely no evidence to back up the claim that the mod is failing. This is how this mod works, and banditry is not going anywhere.

The Reason more and more people don't enjoy DayZ
[email protected] replied to B Allred's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm not sure if you know this, but the game is built for realism. That's the whole point of the engine. So, why would the mod be any different? It's pretty clear that the idea is to keep things as close to being authentic and real as one can in a game about a zombie apocolypse. So, please enlighten me. In realistic situation, how does one automatically identify a bandit? How does one punish someone suspected of being a bandit? What if they're not? The concept that there are no safe zones in this game is laughable. Why don't you make one, if you want one so bad? Get some likeminded individuals together and defend a spot. Make it safe for people who don't want to engage in PvP. This is not the type of game where you're entitled to something, so why not just work for it? -

Poll: DayZ or The War Z?
[email protected] replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not going to read the whole thread and I'm sure this has been stated already, but if you think that War Z won't launch with bugs you're a moron and don't understand how game development works. -
The Reason more and more people don't enjoy DayZ
[email protected] replied to B Allred's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And there we go. All credibility lost, no point putting effort into even seeing if you have any good points made. Hopefully, more people will continue to kill you so that you continue to not enjoy DayZ and leave. But I doubt that, you'll stay, because this is simply one of those posts. The concept of the word "friendly" being some sort of angelic shield with which to ward off the denizens of evil is laughable. That's not how these situations work. EDIT: Also, as other have noted, you did not say friendly. Or if you did, you were yelling it at your screen. I see no mic indicator. -
Even if this wasn't useless, a sniper has the ability to read the thread as well. See the problem here?

What do you consider the definition of a bandit?
[email protected] replied to theguy8882's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A bandit is a thief. Whether or not someone dies in the robbery has no bearing beyond a numerical value within the game. If me/my group sees a person and that person doesn't see us but they are in our path, we use direct communication. They get 30 - 45 seconds to either respond back verbally or by typing. No response, they die. This is only in instances where they're clearly in our path, otherwise it's mostly an avoidance rule unless they clearly have loot we want. If they have loot we want, they get a chance to drop it. If not, they're shot. -
What if he is a better sniper than you?
