I just noticed that after you finish the newbie "tutorial" you are on your own. There is no "how to be a better player" from there. It is all basically your own wits that can save you after you know what to do.

I think the game is just fine right now... Arma 2 is a game for people that have patience. You will succeed if you take your time and not run around. I can run away from a zombie pretty easy by just crouching around a bush or run up a hill. Zombies also SUCK on meleeing so I can just run around them in close quarters. I do hate the anti alt+f4 though, if my internet dies I will become unconscious. But people have different tastes in gameplay, that I understand. I am not judging you at all.

Imo, Bandits are like Creepers in Minecraft. You hate em, but the game isn't the game without them.
-
I like this idea.

I agree with PartyWaffle, there is a difference between a realistic game and a immersive (I know about the bad spelling) game. Plus, I think in the poll thread, the moderator said that every part of the map has been explored. It is a good concept in a way, but it seems more of a hassle towards the player.

I believe that in the recent patch, if you look at a player that is nearby, it would make a heartbeat sound. The sound will get faster when the player you are looking at has more kills. (This thread is useless if I am wrong so forgive me if I am) I think we should remove it, in my opinion. DayZ does a great job with immersion in my opinion, for example, finding a room filled with dead bodies. It does not make the player say "My character is getting nervous, something is wrong", it makes the player say "I am getting nervous". However, I find this murderer "indicator" unfitting with the idea. With this, I could just go up to any person I see and shoot if they have a fast heartbeat and assume they were bandits, as they killed many people in their life. It eliminates the "mental stand-off" that you get when you are dealing with a player that pleads "Don't shoot me!" or anything similar. Instead of thinking "I don't know if he is a murderer", its more of "I need to check his heartbeat to see if he is a murderer". Or, instead of asking "Why do you have that sniper?", it could be "Why do you have a fast heartbeat?". I do not think this gives immersion to the player, and instead makes it more of a "tagging" system. Might as well add back the bandit skins if you asked me. In fact, yesterday a person found my friend and noticed his fast (and somewhat loud) heartbeat. He says "What are you doing here, you dirty bandit?". He forgets to reload and the rest seems self-explanatory. This is just my opinion however...
-
I know but, I think many people here want to go on the safe side and shoot a person with a fast heartbeat.
-
Yea, it does not tell if he was a victim or the attacker. It does tell that the player has murdered a few people however... I would honestly shoot a person with a fast heartbeat. Since, after you know that he murdered a couple of people it really ruins your trust.

Awww, I was hoping this was related to what I did today. There was a bus with 6 people in it and I shot at it :P Still, I was saying the whole time "Crawl Backwards!" since you would turn around really slowly.

What are your methods or routes to finding good weapons?
Etmer replied to jaymeec95's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I recommend to search barns, the chance of being shot is low, and plus you can find some decent weaponry like snipers and shotguns. Ammo for those guns are easy to find too. -
Do you think the Lee Enfield is underrated?
Etmer replied to Genki Dama's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
He could had... been low on blood you know. Chops to you for using TSFH though :D -

Why did you get out a chemlight? Its better to throw it out in the field or something. Otherwise you are beaconed. -
Winchester or Lee Enfield? [POLL]
Etmer replied to Dawn (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I guess it can be true, but the thing is they would drop down in a hit. I've seen crossbows knock people unconscious for a short period of time, so why not the Lee Enfield? -
Winchester or Lee Enfield? [POLL]
Etmer replied to Dawn (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I believe the dinner bell is not working right now but I don't know for sure. I'd say its entirely situational. Lee Enfield Pros: Highly accurate, extremely deadly punch to both players and zombies. Has an effective range of 400M. Cons: Extremely loud, high recoil. Personal Review: The Lee Enfield was born to be a sniper, and is even used as a sniper with an upgraded scope in WW2. Even if the Lee Enfield has no scope in the game, the Lee Enfield is a weapon that can prove deadly with it's instant-killing capabilities up to 400M. The iron sights are bad in close quarters but prove to be great in medium-long range. It is however uncomfortable once again in extreme ranges. Other than the dinner bell effect and high recoil, the Lee Enfield is a gun you will not want pointing at you in a corridor. Winchester: Pros: Quiet, low recoil, and instant kills zombies. Can also carry 5 more rounds than the Lee Enfield. Cons: Slower fire rate, short range, does not kill players as fast. Personal Review: The Winchester is originally a rifle, but is considered a shotgun in DayZ. The rifle is not as powerful as the Lee Enfield, with medium damage and a range up to 150M only. The iron sights are ineffective, and basically disappears in medium range. However, due to its quiet nature, without high recoil, the gun is a great "looting" weapon. In PVP, the gun can instant-kill injured characters, and instant kill zombies by default. However, the weapon will not instant-kill characters that has a fair amount of blood, giving the victim a good chance to react. My Verdict: The Lee Enfield wins. The Lee Enfield is very powerful and can be used in many ranges if the user is skilled. The Winchester loses as it has slower firing rate and short range, also it's lack of power in some situations. The Winchester however, is a perfect newbie gun, that helps newbies get out of situations like aggroing tons of zombies. The Lee Enfield appears to be more PVP based while the Winchester is more PVE. In the land of where players are more dangerous than zombies, the Lee Enfield can help you if you know how to use it correctly. -
Whats the best/safest way to save items
Etmer replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Are you referring to a hack where people can spawn flying battleships that shoot rockets? -
Pics or it didn't happen.
-
DayZ is great for it's immersion, even though WarZ aims for that. WarZ thinks immersion is about making a game ABOUT zombies. For me, DayZ does a GREAT job in immersion, maybe accidentally?

Whats the point of getting a M16/M4A1/AKS-7U etc?
Etmer replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yea, it is all in variety. The guns aren't that balanced though IMO... For example, the M19/Revolver and it's ammo are easier to find than the G17 and it's ammo. Plus, the G17 is weaker than the M19. Same with the Makarov, its a bit harder to find and it is quite weaker. -
I killed my friend last night. (small story)
Etmer replied to KEEPCARLM's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
LOL this is pretty true. This happened to me on my first playthrough of DayZ. I alt-tabbed and I threw a precious flare (It was pretty precious to me back then). All the zombies came and I ran away from Otmel. -
I prefer fried eggs.

I think you can set the third person button to something else in the Options menu. You can refer to a DayZ loot map or just search the wilds for deer stands (they look like wooden watchtowers). And like what MONSTER said, look into barns for guns and supplies. Its actually a place where I would get a gun anyway, since its harder to find higher-tier weaponry. Also, remember what a building looks like if you see loot in it. If you find it repeated in another area it would have loot too. Edit: DANM IT MONSTER YOU BEAT ME TO THE COMMENT >:c (No seriousness intended).

I feel so sick fighting my own mind >.< Two days ago I was inspired to fight against banditry as there are good people in the world needing help. I literally made an oath to that purpose. Now I am thinking of actually BEING a bandit but like the previous job, take care of the newbies. It would stop people from going into a city, thinking it is a sort of shopping mall... and if they are too pissed of being shot going alone, why not team up?

Simple Deterance to Trigger happy CoD fans and "bandits"
Etmer replied to RedDedZed's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
To be honest I don't like the idea, though I did like the idea of hearing gunshots around you. I don't think that people should be punished for killing too much. In fact I like it how it is. The tension stand-off with another player, who has a gun like you, the idea of a person betraying you does not give you paranoia in-game, but in real life. Its a type of immersion that makes this game great. It also makes cities impossible to become a shopping mall. I don't think bandits should be punished at all... even for my hatred for them they are a game mechanic. It's like removing Creepers from Minecraft, you hate them but it isn't the same with them gone. -
Weapons can be easy to get at times. I think, like what Mike said, is fine as it is.

Happened to me in 1.7.2.3. A zombie just respawned in front of me and punched me. I could also see some zombies appearing and disappearing around me. Kinda scares me when suddenly a zombie appears and disappears in front of you... Also it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to clear out an area. Zombies just keep spawning if I am about 150 meters away from a building. I bet it can be exploited too as an easy farming technique.
