Update on 6/13/2012 How to use your Hatchet, matches and hunting knife: Video: This is simply a megapost of small tutorials (1-3 minutes each) covering whatever I could think of / Questions I've seen on the forums. I know my mic isn't the greatest, and I'm sure I missed something [or got something wrong] Connecting: Video: Summary - On your filter set type to "Cooperative Mission" Map to "Dayz", if you get stuck at "Waiting for server to respond, it just means a lot of people are trying to retrieve characters. You'll find a more comprehensive post here by RPlasticPirate: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3843 HUD / UI: Video: Left side: Context menu and chat Right side Top to bottom: [in order] Ammo / mags / flares ect. Debug monitor [you can't turn it off], how loud and visible you are [to zombies not humans] Humanity [bandit or not], Temperature, thirst, health [bleeding], hungry. Broken bones = Morphine Sporadic shaking = pain = painkillers Constant shaking = caught a cold = antibiotics [good luck finding] **Raising your temp does NOT get rid of the cold** Blinking red cross on blood icon = bleeding = bandage Hourglass = unconscious = give it time... [this doesn't happen JUST from gunshots fyi] Chat: Video: . and , to change channels, / to type, capslock to talk. Don't talk in serverwide channels. "P" to bring up player list and mute people who talk in the serverwide channels. *Direct Comm. chat is only available on beta for now* Death/Respawning: Video: Summary - Abort (yes)-> disconnect -> "Ok" Movement Video: Summary - Z X C for stances, double tab shift to toggle run/walk, V to jump over things, hold alt to look around. Weapons / Flares / Grenades / Chemlights Video: Summary: Hold down RMB to zoom, click it to aim, magazines do not refill themselves. *To throw grenades/flares it's LMB once you've used F to select them [in the upper right], and you can pick up chemlights the same way as flares [just to clarify]* Inventory / Hotkeys: Video: G for gear, B for Binos, V to jump fences, M for map/compass/watch [if you have one]. Using bangages and lighting fires ect. The shells themselves are identical' date=' but the two guns can NOT use each others magazines. I suspect this is a bit of a hack on Rockets part, in order to circumvent ARMA's broken ammo system (where you can't transfer rounds between mags). [hr'] I was just referring to the fact that if I have 2 rounds in a mag, I'd probably throw a new one in. but DayZ doesn't let me, I'm stuck with that 2 round mag loaded in -
I've never heard of FPS having anything to do with the things you are talking about. Even in the 1.5.8 patch with the memory leak that caused me to go from 60 fps to 8 fps never once did my weapon fire or did I change stances. [also I use dual monitors and alt-tab rather frequently] So I will leave you with this completely non-helpful words of wisdom: Your shits all fucked up! [also goto the control panel and check your "ease of access" section, make sure nothing is set up to emulate mouseclicks]

I do need to update for shock and such things, problem is since they rarely happen to me I tend to forget about them. Usually I die to something awesome like breaking my legs going prone in a doorway -

You can't compare CoD and arma b/c the gameplay is so drastically different. I mean a 1v1 gunfight in Arma involves what? Like 10 shots from both players combined. It annoys me when I kill someone and then they complain that "I'm playing it like CoD". More like your whiny ass doesn't deserve to be alive during a zombie apocalypse and I'd hate for those delicious beans in your pack to go to waste on someone like you.

Point is, if you pick up a full mag off a loot spawn it still doesn't allow you to do a proper tactical reload, it keeps reloading the same mag. This is an alpha, if we're trying to point out bugs why are people so keen to defend them and call them "features" "The point is, just because you pick up a new mag, or have a mag in your inventory, it doesn't mean that it's full." The point is when I have 7 mags on me it keeps reloading the half empty mag, once the half empty mag is expended *surprise* I can use a fresh mag! -

No, what they're saying is that they have plenty of mags in their inventory, but they only have 2 bullets every time they releoad. But in both situations, both posters mention obvious ways on how they dropped their full mags and picked up more empties or just had tons of empties anyways. Like I said, it's not a bug. Just a lack of a good source of information. I don't remember mentioning how I dropped mags [i never did], once I shot off the 2 rounds I could suddenly hit "reload" and it would use a fresh mag. oh and the whole clip/magazine/bullet/round thing - it's a game on the internet, stop being a POG -

So here's what it comes down to - people want realism in the aspects of the mod they enjoy. The night is way too dark to be even close to reality, with a couple years of combat patrols under my belt I can tell you that yes, it does get that dark, but very rarely, and not every single night. The night needs to be brightened *somewhat* we're not talking about turning it into a darker version of day, just being able to see silhouettes instead of nothing [without gamma/brightness jacking - ie, using same settings as daytime]. But if we're going for realism with the night and day cycle, what about the rest of the game? Why am I drinking and eating every 15-30 minutes? I get an average play time of say, 2 hours a day max during the week, 6 hours on the weekends. If the average person eats 3 meals a day, and ingame you have to eat every 30 minutes... well you get where this is going. I use HDR and gamma boosting at night and I find it really fun 1) it's still a completely different game. 2) It helps in the open but in buildings and forests it's still too dark to see and you have to use flares - which is - realistic. I've always said night time should be an impairment, not a blanket of darkness. -

I've had this problem too, I have 7 1911 mags, 2 are used, 5 are full, but every time I reload it keeps putting in the mag that has 2 rounds left in it [no, not all 7 have 2 rounds left in them] Also if this was a die-hard milsim, empty mags would remain in your inventory. God help you if you happen to lose magazines even in a warzone :P just saying! [How do I access my droppouch?] -

thanks, I'll try to keep them updated as much as possible, I should have kept a bloopers reel - I was on a castle roof doing the weapons / flares portion when a bandit walked up the stairs, there I was in the middle of the day holding a flare in my hand looking like a 'tard. He looked at me and saluted, I moved to the middle of the forest for the rest of the tutorials. -

I have almost everything that you spawn with in DayZ sitting around my house [and my pistols and packs are much better]... except for morphine and flares - but do you know what I have like 30 of? those crappy little AA flashlights that are always cheaper to buy new ones that come with batteries than to buy new batteries - just saying. -

Another thing to consider is, we're not outside where we are surrounded by darkness and our eyes adapt [even in pitchblack no light pollution nights eyes eventually adjust to show things more clearly than Day Z night], we're sitting in front of glowing computer screens, with bright white spam in the lower left, in my case a 2nd monitor glowing and usually a light or 2 somewhere behind me turned on [i don't generally turn off every single light on the first floor to play a video game]. Even overseas the only time I really ever used night vision was while driving blacked out or while entering buildings with no lights [if you ever had to use 7b's instead of 14s you know the pain] Like I said before, currently dayz nights is like going to a horror movie and having them turn off all the lights and just play scary sounds over the speakers - it's not scary, it's more boring and pointless. -
I wouldn't mind slower zombies if the trade off was they only died to headshots, then ammo would become more precious even with slower zeds
