Without reading all these posts since i posted, I saw it mentioned a time or two while discussing this about how many servers there are. Lets do some quick, basic math that shows reducing sheer number of servers isnt a shoulder shrugging issue. This math will assume the following : That every server showing in the list of 3697 on Commander is the minimum 40 slots, non locked, open server. We know this isnt true, some have more slots, some are private, some arent up to date, etc. But we will say this for the purposes of math. So 3697*40 slots is 147,880 slots for players. 973,359 registered players at the time of this writing, with 180,080 playing in the last 24 hours. So really, saying "oh you stopped payin for your server, oh well" might could actually impact the game if all servers were open, up to date BUT on minimum 40 slots. There just wouldnt be enough room for everyone to play. You should want the people willing to pay, and step up to maintain and run a server to enjoy doing so. But without the rule change, I guess we could try to find 40 people to fill our servers and become regular everyday players. (GL on that.) Private servers would need to be off of Hive, I agree. But "everyone being geared out then what" scenario is moot when there are tons of things you could do with a co operative, clean community of like minded folks that would enjoy RP and Meta elements. The possibilities are endless. Anyway, back to the pages of arguing, i wanted to keep up but i went and played and came back to 3 new pages of lots of walls with no enthusiasm for reading them all.

I can stand behind this. When you pay for a service, you deserve to get what you pay for. Its not a matter of "well then dont pay for it" because then, we have to go find a server anyway, which still has hackers, then we are back at square one. Anyway, I would prefer there be an actual solution but this seems reasonable, even as a temporary rule change.

Hey, I just bought Arma 2 today and got Day Z working, but im having an issue where if i hold the toggle walk/run button too long, it just sticks to walking only, and i dont get the speed i need in crouching for the nice blend of stealth/speed. I tried all sorts of things like resetting the keybinds to default, making sure there were no conflicting keys, ive assigned the toggle and temporary to different keys, i cant seem to get him back moving quick. Any help in this area would be great, i honestly move faster in prone at this point cause running full blast isnt an option lol.

This sounds pretty nice, considering im using the Arma II RCon GUI and its kinda bleh. Plus its always kicking me off saying the Server is not responding, when it is indeed running, I just have to keep relogging into RCon.

START HERE: A Beginners Guide to DayZ Servers and Administration
SilenceSoLoud replied to a topic in Server Owners and Admins
After learning how to log in via chat commands I just reset it to 5 to prevent anyone from going into that panel altogether. Your method worked, but I got a #140 kick afterwards, but then I learned the commands so forget it ;) Thanks again though. -

If i buy a new copy of arma 2, will i still be banned?
SilenceSoLoud replied to KoalaBro's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ive watched games go to shit solely because hackers wrecked havoc on the game. Killed my favorite FPS of all time as a matter of fact. and for the record, for whoever said we have all hacked at some point; I have never cheated in a multiplayer game. The last time I even used a cheat code was in GTA4, after beating it a few times, in single player. Hardly the same thing, as SP codes do not shit on the gaming experience of other players who paid for the game with expectations of a fair and balanced gaming experience. Im nearly shocked that some people would even try to justify this behavior, or believe that someone would just hack for some beans lol. But being shocked on the internet isnt gonna happen. -
Is this a starving game?!
SilenceSoLoud replied to FriendlyJesper's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you cant find matches, there are a few places you can start fires without them. Such as right outside of the airstrip by cherno, theres a military camp with 4 deerstands in it, one on each corner. If you can get inside without pissing every zombie off, theres a pile of tires in the middle that you can activate and set on fire, then cook your meat. There are also fire barrels here and there, such as the military tents in Berezino. Other than that, super markets can be hairy, but its worth the hair raising thrill of going in to try to get the stuff you need to survive in this game. Its not supposed to be easy ;) -
Anyone experiencing a lot more graphical engine bugs in 1.7.2.4?
SilenceSoLoud replied to resausk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It happens to me and the 3 people i play with at NWAF and Berezino only. It cost us dearly last night too but thats just how things go. -
RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
SilenceSoLoud replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
id say there would be more benefit to the game being played in all legit manners for a thorough outlook on the game as a whole, in all situations; than sticking only to one set of rules and regs. And i mean, if you want bugs found and people playing and word getting spread, and there are a subset of people who only want private server play, then you make sure that the option is there for those folks for extended exposure. Consider a couple of things: 1- Non persistent, non central server based gaming has been around forever. Games from all genres have built many thriving communities composed of free standing, independent database servers. 2- As has been said, stress testing is actually one of the last things done in LATE BETA, not early beta, or even Alpha. I like Rocket and the way he handles the community and his development, but you seem a tad infatuated Swine. -

I played on non hive for a day or so and enjoyed it quite a bit. they seemed to perform better in all honesty. Plus I liked the idea that you dont have to worry about server hopping looters/farmers. The community aspect seems awesome as well. Ive really been hoping to come across a private community to join up with for sake of RP, organized events and such. Theres so much you could do with a private, pw, non hive server with the same group of 25-40 people you game with everyday that you couldnt do on the hive due to dbaggery, hackers, etc. Camp wars, RPing, "questing" type deals setup on the forums (ie- first group to gather "x" and bring it to "y" gets "z" for a reward), these are all things that I feel like could give a deeper experience in the game but far less likely to be accomplished on everyday, common servers. -
I have 2 Blood Bags, 1 Morphine Injector, A couple bandages, and some food id like to trade for DMR mags. Steam - SilenceSoLoud I have Ventrilo and if you can be vet'd by someone/some forum post as a survivor/medic itll make this a whole lot easier. Thanks.

Suggestion : Start with a map
SilenceSoLoud replied to smilledge's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
yea its pretty easy to alt tab for a map, or if you run the game/commander/six updater via steam, you can open the map in the steam overlay browser and just shift+tab for the map. If it werent so easy to get map access that way, maybe start with a map, but I would be more inclined to say compass. A survivor who packed a flashlight and bandage may would have a compass but not a map of the area so I could see the justification. Just leave it as is. -
Why is this advertised as a Zombie game?
SilenceSoLoud replied to SolarClipz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Idk, im still new, but I team up to survive. Me and 2 other guys were headed into Zelon last night to get guy #3 some basic stuff after his most recent death, ie alice pack, map, etc. Well for whatever reason, one of us snagged a zeds attention waaaay off in the distance, and not a single one of us had a weapon that is quiet. I had an Enfield, my buddy had an M249, and the other guy had an AK. Granted later in the game, with silenced this, silenced that, this probably would have been easy. But the guy who needed to go in for gear ended up having to run in while me and the guy with the M249 held down a field of zombies. I started with around 4 zombie kills and had 30+ aftewards. Maybe there was a better way, or hell maybe 10 ways, to handle that situation, but that shit was fun. In the end, Guy #3 got his gear while M249 guy died and I almost perished but scraped by with ~1800 blood til i got a transfusion. Bein a noob may provide some extra challenge, but then again, dont try to make yourself some uber pro. Enjoy the game. This game is open ended, either find one of many ways to enjoy it, or stop playin. On a sidenote, i created a positive feedback thread and got no responses, while the negative ones get tons of responses all complaining about how negative and shitty the thread is. Food for thought. -
Complete Inventory Wipe on Logoff
SilenceSoLoud replied to Angus-SiN's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting

Complete Inventory Wipe on Logoff
SilenceSoLoud replied to Angus-SiN's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
This happened to a buddy of mine, and I lose some things in inventory pretty often, no full wipes as of yet *knocks on wood* Question to you guys, is there any situation where you modify your inventory contents and then log/leave server/change server within a very short amount of time? This seems to be the case with my disappearing items, and it leaves me to ponder whether the game/server/HIVE needs x amount of time to sync your inventory with the HIVE record. Relogging too soon after inventory modification = lost items? -
The solution to Alt-F4
SilenceSoLoud replied to CongressmanAlexShrub's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You play the game to survive, so survive within the mechanics of the game, dont be a bitch. At the end of the day, if you never lose your gear when you die, you would have all the gear in the world in a week and then cry cause you have no other reason to play the game. Stupid. -
So yea, there are so many threads that bitch and whine, and complain and cry about this or that, I honestly felt the need to say thanks for the good times. I bought Arma 2 and installed Day Z right after learning of it from the Ars Technica article/interview with Dr. Wasteland. The premises sounded like something I had been looking for for a long time. And it has delivered. Going into the game with research, knowing it has issues, and knowing that the environment is harsh and unforgiving, along with not being a total whiny and self entitled bitch, I have managed to find this game to offer a great experience. Its great solo, its great teamwork, and its an emotional rollercoaster. In 15 minutes you can go from desperate, to loaded with good stuff, to an intense moment with players, to anger, and disappointment. OR one of those can last days, you really just dont know and the unpredictable nature of this beast is a welcome feature. It has been a long time since any gaming experience has made me enjoy playing the way this game does. There have been good games, but this takes me back into the days of Ghost Recon. So anyway, my praise to BI for the game, to Rocket for the mod, and to the community (the ones that arent drowning in their tears). I hope to stick around with this project for a long time to come, and watch it grow.

yea i feel my blood regenerate on a daily basis :P just messin with ya but no, this is a bad idea. regen hp is bad in all games imo, especially at the rate of 5hp per second. You can post for medic transfusion with a reputable medic, eat steak, risk other players, a few options here. forces you to be resourceful and strategical. Makes you think about what you are about to get yourself into as well. There would be less consequence to risky action if everyone knew they could bandage up and wait in the woods for a few minutes and do it all over again.

The sad thing about this game...
SilenceSoLoud replied to electroban's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
and here lies the problem with the gaming industry as a whole imo. Instead of 2 or 3, or even 4 year dev cycles generating great games with updates throughout its life, you get the "milking cow" effect of dropping a new game every year, with minor improvements, at a $60 a year commitment charge for the consumers. This mod is amazing, the game is great fun, one of the best experiences ive had in a long long time in gaming. And it all arose from what PC gaming used to be about back in the day, and that is the open development of community based modifications to games that already exist with not only the grace of the original developer, but even the assistance in this case (ie the banning of players from Arma for cheating in Mod Z.) It is developers like this, and mod devs, and communities like this that need everyones support in any way, even just playing, to show that there is a market for PC games in general, and that they should be able to be tinkered with. Big Gaming could learn a thing or two here, looking at Day Z drive a 2 year old game to the top 10 sold games in Steam based on a mod that is in its infant stages. /End Rant Sorry, just been loving this shit since i got into it lol -
