Havent played it, no desire too. Not all genres appeal to everyone, side scrolling 2D isnt one for me, at least not in the modern sense. I like the classics no doubt. This mod has executed, even in broken fashion, something I consider perfect for me. My only point in ranting is that people seem to make too much of the issues when no one is holding a gun to their head to play it. That and they dont take into consideration all the facts surrounding why its still broken, and feel that since its important to them it should be fixed right now, not later.

I ran a rather successful server. Yes we had some situations before i got it buckled down, but after the new log parsing came and filters, it was much much easier. Nothing will stop it in its entirety, that goes for any game, where there is a will there is a way. I know this mod needs way more protection, but they are mod creators, not the people who built Arma 2, who had no real reason to spend huge dev times on anti cheat because Arma is generally a co op game where insta spawn may or may not be desired. Anyway, I imagine some servers get targeted harder than others, but Ive seen quite a few run successfully. The biggest issue is having to ban post hack with little to no prevention, but at least you can stop repeat offenders. (and this counts for script kiddies, I realize engine hacks are just hopeless, but most of these people are too inept to be using those.)

Damn man, so much ignorance based hate. If only most of you knew 5% of what you think you knew, you would stfu. 1) There are tools to fight hackers, blame the admins of the servers that are too lazy 2) Some of the latest info to be found about the mod and stand alone have came from these interviews that you bitch about. Do you want him to come here and address you personally and say the same shit he has already said in interviews? 3) There are soooooo many self righteous, QQin people on here, he cant possibly respond to all of you. 4) The glitches suck, I have them, I work around them, I knew when I bought Arma 2 that I was getting into an unfinished mod with a small team of devs, that may or may not just give up on it/move on at any time. If you were expecting anything else, you should have done your research, or stop seeing "Alpha/Beta" tags as "Demo for the real game" as so many console developers have built into the minds of the current generation of gamers by allowing everyone with an internet connection to "beta test." 5) As said many times before, if you dont like it man, move on. Come back later, maybe itll be fixed. Wait for stand alone, do something besides get so bent out of shape over a mod. There are good games out right now and a few on the horizon. Just go play them, watch a movie, hit Netflix, go outside, seriously. I am an avid believer that no matter how good a product is, customer support post purchase is everything. But in this case, you would probably get support from BIS if you needed it, due to the fact that you purchased your game. But this mod, built in the spare time by some enthusiasts who were lucky enough to land a deal to make a full game, wasnt paid for. They actually owe you nothing. And if it really gets in your panties that bad, then vote with your wallet and refuse to buy the stand alone. I promise, the community at large wont miss your belly aching. Signed "A person with enough sense to fuckin get it" Back to the topic- I know of a few people who have voted for you now, and a few that wont (without crying), good luck. Theres not exactly a ton of competition imo.

Actually, any admins who take the time to do research will find there are a lot of new features that will enable SOME prevention, but the bulk of the time will at least give them what they need to ban post offense. I should know, I was running a tight game on my server before I had to let the sub run out due to extenuating circumstances.

You should really just lock all threads of any official capacity because its always self entitled bitching and whining, broken record style crybaby shit over and over. I have stopped coming to the forums as much (these anyway, the RP ones are fine) because of these types of assholes. The best part? They feel inclined to continue with their shit, when they could just move on temporarily, or hopefully forever, to another game. Got my vote.

How can you still enjoy this game?

If you are that concerned about "dublicating" then make it your point to go around destroying dup camps. Run up, build a camp fire, take everything out of the tents, throw it in the fire, run the tents over with a vehicle, then leave. New way to play, wha la! -
Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
SilenceSoLoud replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
My take on bases: I feel the instanced, underground strategy is a good idea, but it does break some of the immersion of the game to jump instances, and lets face it, in the zombie apocalypse, while it would be smart, how many of us would be digging out a hole to build an underground base unless it was already there in some form of shelter. My idea, not totally fleshed out, not absolute, and totally end game (ie it should be quite hard to accomplish) but feedback is fine- City overtaking. Come up with a mechanic that would allow certain towns or cities (smaller ones, not like core essential cherno/NWAF type deals) to be overtaken. Start by having to gather up what we will call Resource A. It is rare, it is tough to accomplish, it is untradable, and it is highly sought after. Resource A incites competition amongst players on a server. Town A requires x amount of Resources A, B and C. These resources should contribute to starting a HQ in one of the predetermined HQ suitable buildings. It fortifies, and keeps zombies out. You continue this "building out process" until you have a section of the town/city to call your own where zombies cannot spawn. Key Aspects- Story/Reason Zombies cant infiltrate- Either A) whatever you resource and build randomly spawns AI soldiers that wouldnt be too awful powerful, but more alert than zombies, and armed to kill zombies, and also be a pain in the ass to the players who mass up to attack someones base. Nothing over the top, nothing like AI with rocket launchers etc. This also helps keep your base a little safe while you are logged off. Or- the story is whatever you build is just a zombie deterant, whether that be some sorta sound that keeps them away, a smell, etc whatever. This doesn't really help with player attacks but whatever. Your HQ- Gathering Resource D, E, F etc would allow things like better fencing, chests/dressers/cabinets for storage rather than tents, spot lights, power generators, fuel sources, etc the possibilities are endless. This ties into the survive and gather aspects quite neatly, it creates competition AND co operation needs, and more end goals in the "omgz im done with my gear" part of the game when you are fighting to establish your base, or trying to overtake/destroy someone else And since this is in the open world, it never breaks the immersion factor. Anyway, this isn't a totally fleshed out idea but just what Ive been thinking of as my contribution to ideas for the standalone. Thanks for reading. -
A large amount of hacked gear on guys from US1664 with video

We have an email listed for support in the MOTD. Id prefer that method over this because I feel like hackers scope out servers on these forums, and when someone complains, well it attracts more. But I appreciate the heads up either way. -
Hackers in US1664
SilenceSoLoud replied to twentyseven_incher@yahoo.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
that comes from crashed/destroyed vehicles. its a bug that exists even in basic Arma II from what Ive read. A restart will remove it but im currently examining logs so itll be a little bit. -

I am a controlling interest of this server, and I will do what I can to get the situation handled but as it is known, and even said here, admins arent given a lot of tools for dealing with this stuff. We had a small population server with very few issues, but I made a post recently hoping to fill some of the slots, knowing it could increase our hacker exposure, but I didnt think it would get this bad. Its really sad on a couple of fronts really. One, that people have to hack in this game. Two, that they have to shit on something that people pay their hard earned money for. Three, that admins arent given the tools and resources to do jack shit about it besides sit back and watch something they have already paid for go down the drain. Anyway, Ill do the best I can, along with the other admins. If what I do gets us blacklisted, well, its not like we can play on it hacked to shit anyway so what is the difference? -

That is odd, one of the admins is in TX getting 60-90. By the way, the server kicks for over 180ms. -
Hey everyone. A few friends of mine have rented and admin a server from Vilayer, and it has been up a little over a week now. It was installed on fresh servers that they had put in the day we ordered, and the performance is great. Ive yet to come across a faster loading server. The server is US1664 (no spaces), and it is based out of NY, USA. I am on the east coast in the south and get a ping of ~40 usually, and ive seen pings as low as the teens, the thing just runs good. It is set to normal, map markers on, NP on, 3rd person is on, tracers off, armor off, CH and DM are on. It is fully up to date with 1.7.2.5 and 95883. And the TZ is set to UTC -9. We are just experiencing really low population, we arent necessarily looking to fill it up but when you pay for 40 slots and only use 10, you cant help but feel like you are wasting money. Bandits and survivors alike are welcome, but we would really like to build a nice RP aura if we can manage to do so. We just want a healthy, fair environment. They are fair admins, with an email contact direct to them so that you dont have to bitch and complain here on the servers and maybe never receive any response from the admins. Thanks a lot SsL Edited to include timezone.
