Now every server I join even after getting passed character creation it's loading me in a huge open field with nothing in it and I can't move? If I "abort" or "respawn" when my character falls there are several other players standing around and even more corpses. Bug in the game/server??

Or... pvp specific servers or areas where pvp is turned off(not ideal) unable to kill or be killed for the first 2 minutes logging Several solutions. The most sensible would be pvp specific servers, just about every game in history has realized being fucked over while trying to do something and having all your progress reset.. really sucks and just causes unnecessary complaining that can be solved by simply making pvp optional.

Every Dallas server (nearest to me.. any others are too laggy) takes 20 minutes to an hour to load the character creation screen. Does it honestly take that long to create a character? This can not be intentional.. it's really killing the incentive to even bother rejoining after death if I have to wait longer to play than I can even survive.
