Elpis Host - $30/month for 40 slots - BEC/Anti-Hax - Unrivaled Quality
lentWolf replied to Tyler Salwierz's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hey, Tyler - do you still have your Premium's in stock? If so, we'd like to order one here in the next few minutes. -
Are there any server hosts that give you full access to the Server Files such as the Server.cfg?

Share with the class? :P -

Mmm, glad to see some competition for server hosting. My clan is looking into hosting a server here in the next couple weeks, we'll keep an eye on your service - we had great experiences with your hosting in the past, so you're top on the list for us to go to :) -
[Resolved] Hacker: US 105 (Hosted by 50calgaming)
lentWolf posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I searched the forums but didn't see any topics pertaining to this particular server, so there seem to be no records of previous abuse. My clanmates were playing on US 105 together (3 of us). We've been playing on 105 frequently over the past 4 or 5 days, as they have great uptime, low latency, etc. The Scenario: At approx. 1:30PM CST (GMT-6) on today, 23 July 2012, we were all 'teleported' to what looked like the Rog Por area. I had been North of Mogilevka, headed towards Stary Sobor - so I was nowhere near Rog Por. All of a sudden I find myself surrounded by a bunch of other players in Rog Por, and they're all shooting each other. Smoke everywhere, explosions going on, etc. People on here seem really defensive - so removed the rest. Sorry - didn't know admins have no rights on the server. Sorry - didn't know that BattleEye wasn't worth shit. SORRY - for trying to report a problem on a server that could affect other people because this server is connected to a persistent, master server. SORRY. @50calgaming: If you see this, would be great if you could check your logs and get rid of the wrong-doers, thanks! -

Wow, yeah that's pretty crazy >.> Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions :) Hopefully the hacker situation gets better, who knows ... -

Yeah, sounds ... tiresome :/ Well the 'better' hackers then, the ones not getting caught, I'm assuming they're using external scripts/programs. Is there a way to detect those through the logs, or can they only see manual entries (e.g. a player manually typing /bla bla)? Obviously BattleEye isn't flagging anything, but is there no other way to defend a server? I was considering hosting a server for DayZ, as I've hosted for several games in the past for my clan, but if there isn't any way to stop these hackers - that kind of eliminates the primary reason we wanted to have 'our own' server ('our own' simply meaning one in which we have the ability to remove troublemakers).. -

Right, and I can understand that. I know that, especially with a mod growing as quickly as DayZ, forums do tend to get bloated with "OMG hax" messages every time someone does too well. I get that. I suppose I was hoping that such an issue was easier to resolve. If all admins can do is look at logs - that seems like a poor system by design. If the admins find proof, can they actually remove the troublesome player themselves, or does it go through a 'ticket process' of sorts where the admins report it and DayZ or BE staff handle it manually? -

Will do in future reports (hopefully few). I wouldn't have made such conjectures if I had realized admins' were so restricted on what could be done. -

Obviously some people like hackers - else there wouldn't be so many. I'm aware most of the hosting is voluntary and not by the DayZ Staff; I was considering hosting one as of a few days ago (waiting to see how many clanmates are interested before I make a decision). I've spent a decent amount of time reading loads of information about the game, policies, servers, etc - but being that I've only been in this community for a week or less (just look at my joindate, your turn to read a little), there's obviously going to be some places where I don't know the whole situation. Obviously the rights/abilities of admins concerning hackers was one of those areas. Okay, so I've learned - and I'll adjust. But there's no need to be rude and go biting my head off. If you dislike hackers as much as I do, you'd bite my head off if I *didn't* do everything I could and report the hacker, and now you're biting my head off for actually doing so. Chill. -

Hey, sorry - I've run servers in the past, though none for DayZ. I was unaware admins were so limited for DayZ. But that doesn't change the fact that, admin or hacker or whoever, the event did occur. So ... reported it. Maybe the admins for 50cal can do something about it via logs, maybe not. I didn't mean any offense by my posts, I saw an issue and knew I had no power to fix it (short of screens/video, which wasn't an option at the time) - so reported it in the hope someone with more authority could. -

They maintain their server - it's their responsibility to ensure it maintains the standards established by DayZ Staff. Hence part of the purpose behind having a forum dedicated to cheats and admin abuse. From a legal perspective, since you cited a rape victim, people are held accountable for negligence, as well. My point in the statement you quoted me was that, while it may not have been the 50cal members doing the teleporting, it's still their responsibility to ensure things like that don't happen. @Inspector54: Thought it might be. I visited the website mentioned on the server, but it's just a raw vBulletin forum spammed by bots. I haven't seen any human posts on it. It's not even branded by 50cal. Google and YT search yielded no results, either. So, figured this was the next best place to post. -
This. One of my clanmates was talking about this with me earlier - he had someone come up to him with a broken limb and bleeding out. No weapon visible, asked for some help. Clanmate put away his weapon to help, and the wounded guy pulls a Makarov and pops my clanmate. It's situations like that where even those of us considering ourselves to be 'honest' players have to cross boundaries. But, then - I imagine there would be quite a few cases of boundary-crossing in a real life similar scenario, too. Perhaps if there was a way to SHOW from afar you were coming in peace? Similar to it's generally accepted to allow medics to collect the dead without being shot in wartime - perhaps one could activate a 'peaceful' state that would restrict them from use of weapons and place an icon over their head. Disabling this state would be similar to an item - e.g. have a cast time. During which, the icon would blink red to warn nearby players he/she was about to be 'hostile'. The peaceful players, while in that state, could either be immune to player-caused damage - or could take a risk and hope that others would accept peace (as it would be in RL - you may come in peace, but other people may kill you anyways [since we're going for realism here]). Just an idea :P

What you must know before purchasing a server WITH ANY HOST.
lentWolf replied to Lee-Vilayer's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'd just like to know WHY there are so many restrictions on server hosting? If you're worried about lower-quality servers, there's an easy solution: change servers. There's a server browser in the game for a reason - that's more than a lot of new games with their 'Quick Matching' can say (many newer games have skipped a browser altogether). Some clanmates showed this game to me a few days ago. 8-10 of them had been playing pretty seriously for a while, and they wanted our organization to begin supporting it as a title (as a multi-gaming clan we support around 4 other games presently, though our members all play several others together). I tried it out (bought the full game just for the free DayZ mod) and liked it, so we're looking into getting a server. Now I'm seeing all these restrictions and ... wondering if I spoke too soon. We would LOVE to have a 40 slot server, sure. But being that only around 10 of us are active in the game at the moment, we want to 'try our luck' on a smaller server, then possibly expand to greater slots later. I'll be paying for the server - and would rather not spend extra money for extra slots if we decide in a week we don't even like the game anymore. 20 slots is enough to have room for our members and some pubs. I understand the devs feel that smaller clan-based servers can take away from the 'every man for himself' idea - but just because we're a group of friends doesn't mean we're going to band together. I want to play WITH clanmates, NOT necessarily ON THE SAME TEAM. I know the devs have mentioned that a 5-slot server uses as many resources as a 50-slot on the master server. Sure, reasonable - but if the amt of servers attached to the mod is an issue, perhaps some code around that should be adjusted. I believe one of the staff mentioned that population jumped up from zero to 60,000 in a period of weeks - that's terrific, and I'm happy about it. But if you can't support that many people, you can lose just as many people in half the time - especially with competitors to DayZ coming out soon. So, tldr: - If someone feels like they're getting camped on a server, or don't like the people - it's not hard to change servers. - Allowing a clan to maintain a server means you have a more dedicated 'staff' to kick/ban problematic players. - Allowing smaller slot servers means more people are encouraged to use your mod, and thus more publicity (and potentially cash) for the mod and devs. P.S. I also have qualms about the naming requirements on the servers, but that issue can be raised later.
