I made a video a week ago that shows an easy way to learn to fly in Chernarus. Check it out. The only time I use auto hover is to catch myself if I make a huge mistake or to right myself so I can turn easily to the heading I want. It's easy enough to toggle it with the mouse wheel.

After Rupert & Bo successfully found water in episode 6 and the Sun finally makes an appearance, they start getting cocky. Looting the same barn a second time sounds like a good idea until they find themselves face down in the dirt and slithering.

Regardless of what recording software you are using check out MorninAfterKill's fps tuning thread if you haven't yet. It helped me squeeze about 5-8 more fps out of my older system when I'm capturing video.

How is Dxtory better exactly? I'm hesitant to download it because the website looks pretty sketchy. How much does it cost? It doesn't say on the website.

I ran a test last night where I set my pre rendered frames to 1. In the DayZ video options menu I am playing on "High" quality but I turned my visibilty down to below 1300. It still has a decent draw distance, what I can see looks nice in high quality, and I'm getting a minimum of 18 fps in Cherno. Thanks again for this awesome post!

I've been using Bandicam which I got for $30 and it works great. It was easy to set up and I've had very few issues with it. You can capture in full 1080p. Bandi cam has a free trial that lets you do everything but you can only record in 10 minute segments and then you have to hit record again. There is also a "bandicam.com" everlay at the top of the video in the free version. Also check out Playclaw3. I have only messed around with the free version but it seems to work great and it has a lot of interesting extra options. It has a great in game option menu that you can bring up with a hotkey that allows you to adjust just about every setting you can think of. The free version of PlayClaw3 also has text overlay that says "playclaw.com" in the free version. Download either of these, go through the quick set up and start recording. When you find that you prefer one over the other buy it and record your exploits so we can watch you die. :)

I used the settings above and increased my frame rate with bandicam capturing by 5-9 fps when playing DayZ in "Normal" graphics mode and capturing at 720p/100% quality. Now I'm consistently getting 18-22 fps while recording vs average of 13-15 before. My only difference from the settings above was that my max prerendered frames had a maximum of 4 available so I turned it down to 3. I have an older system and GPU. Pleased as punch. Any improvement is welcome and my finished video looks way less choppy. I'm running: Windows 7 x64 6.0 GB RAM AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core 2200Mhz Processor NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 - 896.00MB RAM GDDR3 - Driver Version 301.42 (latest) I might run a few tests with the prerendered frames set at 2 or 1 and see if there is a noticeable difference.

Episode 4 is an excellent example of what DayZ can be like, running for an hour to meet a buddy on the other side of the map. Seriously, I run through the forest for an hour... in the rain. With the exception of a barn raid and a zombie kill that is pretty much it. I wanted to upload it for posterity for people who get the impression from other videos that DayZ is all tense zombie encounters and high action firefights. Sometimes in Dayz you have to run for an hour. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, personally I like it but I wanted anyone who thinks DayZ is a twitch fest FPS to see the slow side. Episode 5 has some zombie killing action. Both episodes are full of good tips in the commentary. Please check out my previous episodes if you missed them. Great stuff man. I subscribed. The solo chopper approach was epic and the vid where your buddy shoots you with your gun was hilarious.
