  1. Love the streams, Oshi, and It's a shame the mod has reached this point. I agree with you. Shutdown the mod, focus on the standalone development. There's no point trying to fight the 'hackers' (the name itself gives them too much credit entirely) in a game that was developed with the function to allow users to openly run scripts. That being said, BattleEye does a lot more than people give it credit for, the problem lies with kids having access to their parent's credit cards / assholes willing to spend £25 every time they get banned just to go nuke another fucking server. Good job kids, good job. - sagemred

Please use the Arma 3 Engine for the Standalone

Yeah, Rocket claims it's on the ArmA '2.5' engine. I hope this means they took the ArmA 3 engine and stripped it for DayZ optimization... At least then we'll still get the lighting improvements and ragdolls etc... If they started building from the ArmA 2 engine again... That would suck.

    *Standalone* Finding Attachments

By the looks of it, they do take up some sort of 'vest slot', so there is a limit to how many you can have. EDIT: Come to think of it, the 'vest pouch' idea could require the player to obtain some soldier clothing / some sort of vest to be able to actually carry the attachments. I agree with the timer for attaching things, it means you would have to be prepared... i.e. you couldn't immediately switch from a ranged scope to CQB just because you bumped into someone at close ranged, it would be more tactical.
  4. Still waiting on that 'one shot from a Makarov' heli take down video :(
  5. Yes, but BI make Arma, not DayZ. Arma needs the ability to run scripts for people to edit their own missions. BI will not, and should not have to, change this for DayZ. That's why it's going standalone.
  6. Yeah, I'd probably go for use to improve, but it's a tricky thing to implement... Maybe I'm just biased towards not having any skills / classes because I like the core gameplay as it is, however, I do agree that it would make PvP more interesting by considering whether you could use another person's skills or not. I don't know, I guess I'd like to see it, but I'm worried it will be unbalanced and exploited...
  7. Please no classes. The game is better off without them, it would become a clone of every other MMO out there. Skills on the other hand, seem fine. As rocket has said before, if someone has a skill useful to you, it might be an incentive not to just shoot on sight.

ArmA III(DayZ stand alone) engine improvements

You need more floppy disks. Or a better potato.
  9. It's not so much about what the Arma 3 engine can do for DayZ, it's more about what they can do with the source code. Obviously, things like advanced lighting, PhysX, volumetric clouds and all the other fancy effects will be in RV4 for DayZ to utilize, but other than that, the Arma 3 engine itself won't benefit DayZ much because... Well, it's built for Arma. What we will find though, is that access to the source code will allow zombie pathing to be improved (because it can be written in the engine itself, as opposed to making citizen AI act like zombies as they currently are) and obviously users will not be able to just run a script (this is allowed in Arma 2 and probably will be allowed in Arma 3 because it's a milsim where people can script their own missions, it was never designed for something as strict as DayZ) EDIT: It also helps maintain the 'feel' that DayZ currently has... DayZ in another game engine would simply not be DayZ.

    --- A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ---

Regardless, voice chat is so damn quiet in-game that you can't hear anyone even when it does work.

    DayZ Standalone Confirmed

    Isn't the engine confirmed as RV4? D: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/08/from-mod-to-game-how-dayz-will-evolve-as-a-standalone-release/

    Grass render distance

This has always been a problem for Arma... Try playing in the days of real Arma when AI could see through grass as if it weren't there 0.o
  13. Nope, just floppy disks and a monitor.
  14. Confirmed here: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/08/from-mod-to-game-how-dayz-will-evolve-as-a-standalone-release/ "Rebuilding from the ground up with the latest version of Bohemia's Real Virtuality engine (which was shown to great effect ) will also allow the standalone DayZ to have more diffuse nighttime lighting, rather than the practically unplayable near-pitch-blackness of the current mod.":D

Things you are most excited for in an ARMA 3 DAYZ

The prevention of running scripts and ragdoll physics :D
  16. Honestly, I think this is brilliant. Okay, so the Arma engine has its flaws (hopefully they'll use Arma 3's engine) but it gives a feel to the game that no other engine could. Think of DayZ in CryEngine... It would not be anywhere near the same game. Hopefully the fact that DayZ will be standalone also means the core engine code can be adjusted, preventing people from running scripts etc. To people moaning about having to buy another game: I GUARANTEE you will buy this during its alpha stage. I mean, they're using the Minecraft model which was, what, £5 - £10 in alpha? Please, just TRY and tell me you won't pay that much for a full DayZ game. If you won't, then please get a job.

    Thunder Dome Game Mode

I think the Call of Duty franchise would be more suited for you.

    Gamebooster w/ Arma 2

Mainly because they are oblivious to the fact that game boosters are counter-productive.
  19. Didn't know Michael Bay was on these forums. Video probably needs more lens flare. And explosions.

What items elude you so far?

I have a ghille but have never found a sniper other than the CZ550 -.- Also, never found Rangefinder, NVGs, GPS, etc etc :(

ArmA 2 engine for DayZ's future?

The thing is, the ArmA engine makes DayZ what it is. Okay, it has a lot of bugs and the hacking needs to be fixed etc etc, but it gives the feel of the game. Make a game in CryEngine, it feels like Crysis, even with new theming etc. (Obviously unlikely for DayZ, but it's to make a point). I mean, I can't think of a game engine that wouldn't completely change how this game plays, and for the worse. Okay, people hate the bugs, hacking, PvP, Zombie AI and much more in DayZ, but they keep coming back because the core gameplay and feel of the game is great as it stands - I don't see how it's possible to re-create this in a different game engine.
