I do wonder if they keep a log of your character's lives, or if they reset a single data row when you die with default Items/Location/etc Your method would definitely be easier to implement if they keep your "old lives" as they could just roll that life back to "alive" or restore your old location. Either way, no matter how it is "attacked" i agree with you 100% that this should be a focus in the near future. Right behind getting inventory/vehicles to save correctly and consistently.

For the record, that was not meant as an insult but more of a "I have experience in this exact area that idea is very feasible, and good" Actually, we did have different points of how the same issue(s) should be addressed. I just think it would make more sense to have roll back points that get updated every hour on the hour through backup scripting, and requring the user to flag that death/abort as bad death/location/etc information. That would take away requiring checking everytime someone dies, moves, logs out, etc. Which I should assume would be pretty load intensive on the server not to mention a lot of events to keep track of. Also it potentional could require not having to add Tables/Fields to the Database/Tables. But would require a more aggressive backup plan, and some Menu/GUI modifications client side. I wonder if Rocket and the Dev team would allow server Admins to install (pre-approve of course) other vendor anti-cheat. Could potentially save them a lot of dev time on their part.

Im amazed there isn't Triggers/Stored Procs for this already, and to not commit the changes of the Player's Tables on the hive unless they pass some simple tests Examples, Check to see if a large percentage of players on a server die within 1 minute. Also the same logic could be used to monitor Teleportation, if someone just moved 10KMs in 1 minute. Or check if 10 people moved 2km to the same place. I mean it could also be logic that requires the User to flag it. IE In the process of aborting give them the option to flag that "Abort" saying it shouldnt be commited. -Reply spomething like "Give us 5 minutes to verify and restore your account" You run the procedures to check, if it failed one of the tests, then roll back the changes. This way it requires the user to gtfo, and flag it and is something not run ever second. Maybe put a time limit so that the player can only say once every hour that the changes shouldnt be committed. Potentially there could be CPU/Useage savings, as the new logic use will be offset by less creatition of characters, commiting ficticious data, etc. Or maybe make hourly roll back points for every person that they roll back to in the event of them flagging it. As a C#.Net (3.5, 4.0 Frameworks) programmer with some experience in T-SQL and SQL Server SMS I also have a 4 year BT from an accreditted instutition and 5 years of experience in my field. Basically im trying to say im not talking out of my ass here, and that I do have some knowledge of this.

Once this service is back up and running, I will give it a test. And report back. Worse case scenario I lose some gear. Which is nothing new to Day Z...

It was weird. Happened to me the first time ever yesterday. I had got jumped about 3 minutes before it happened, so I was fresh spawn ( i dont Alt-F4), so I stuck around and hid in a corner and watched. I would of been really pissed to lose all my gear and get handed that stuff since I play legit. I didn't bother exploring it a whole lot because I assumed, it was all illegal, and I might get in trouble for just being there screwing around. But basically, I got give an AS50 + mags, 1911 + mags, basic med supplies, everything for my tool belt, a coyote back pack, nvgs... Once everything settled I got in helicopter, flew out of the walls, got about 30m above the ground, turned off "auto-hover" so it would crash. I assumed that would kill me, but it didnt. So I proceeded to get back to where my dead body was, grabbed my old gear got rid of the new stuff. I kept the gps for the trouble though, and im debating about dropping it still. Like I said, I would of been really pissed had I lost all my legit gear to this Hacking BS. But I just read now that apparently there are boxes there with every gun, so i might just swap over to my old gear, and then gtfo. Thats about the 3rd or 4th time hacks have happened to me, all the other times its just been the server nuke.

What classes as out of bounds and camo neting idea
Harette replied to Thegoon84's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think its kind of luck of the draw to get Tents/Vehicles/Inventory to save right now... We just kept getting/repairing tents and vehicles, and finally we got a UAZ, and a bus to actually stay after the restart, granted their inventory keeps reseting, but hey, at least we got the vehicles! As for the tents... we just kept putting down 3 at a time each day, and then would call it a night. Eventually they started to stick around after restarts. Once that happened we would dump a gun or 3 into each one, (something we didnt care about), and once they actually stayed after a restart we could finally use them cause the inventory would commit. Just do it slowly, and as a process, and keep a majority of important gear/items on you until you can verify they stay, and save. Over all it only took us, maybe a week of try/fail before the vehicles and tents stayed, and inventory saved to tents after restarts. We still haven't gotten any inventory on the vehicles to stick after a server restart though... but hey, at least when the inventory resets they come with 2 jerry cans on each so we got gas to drive around and get gear. Oh Well. -
what's the best solution to stop server hopping?
Harette replied to tarquinbb's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I support most of these fixes, it is an issue to be addressed. A Non-hive based game doesnt sound to appealing though, I have 2 servers I normally play on. Depending on if the primary one is full or not, so to not be able to have that "back up" plan would kill something... but then again I would be intrigued to have 2,3,4,etc different characters running around... I think though first and formost taking away any advantage they get should be the priority, ie ammo re-fills, etc. I especially liked the idea of the ingame announcement of anyone within a 100m-250m radius to you logging in. That would of saved me a few times) at the very least I would of known to duck in a building/trees and just sit for a minute or two, and not just continue to think the area I just cleared is no longer clear... My only gripe is, it seems the abort re-join ammo glitch, has balanced out the amount of ammo I lose due to inventory not saving. I cant even begin to count the amount of mags that disappeared from my bag because I didnt wait the proper 45 minutes - 10 days to log after picking them up. So, I cant even begin to think what my ammo supply would be if it wasn't for the balancing the ammo glitch does, since I only keep 3-4 mags on me and all my spares go into the bag, only to have it disappear. As for Alt-F4'ing during combat, I think if you log out bleeding you should still take damage while not logged in (maybe a slightly reduced rate). If you have the bandages fix it before logging otherwise you keep bleeding, its that simple. The only reason you wouldn't is if you are waiting for a friend to fix you, server hopping, Alt-F4'd during combat, etc. None of them really account for the semi-real environment this game is trying to create. At the very least you should be knocked out for 30 seconds - 1 minute when you log back in due to "Blood Loss". -
So, my friend killed a guy that was sniping fresh spawns in cherno, he ended up being fully decked out, gillie suit, FN Fal, NV's, GPS, etc. After he got what he could he booked it out of town on the same path he had watched the sniper come in on. There he found a fully repaired UAZ with a full tank. Obviously he took it, booked out of Cherno and then came and picked me up. Being our first car, we screwed around for a little while before we decided to actually check it out and do some research on it. In the truck there was some misc stuff, blood bags, morphine, cooked meat, (17) FN Fal Mags(!?!?!), etc. But we noticed (2) "rgo Frag grenades"... Are those legit? I've never seen them anywhere, and I searched around and cant find anything about them. I mean, everything he had on them seemed legit (a little suspicious though), we've verified everything else, but these two grenades. Please let me know, thanks.
