I could say that you are despicable bandit scum and that I hope a hacker kills you repeatedly and then turns you into a dog and trains you to perform a particular trick which involves peanut butter.... But well, there would be no point to that. Would it?

It's true, humans are much more resilient than what we see on the movies. Take me for example. I once heard "Whip my Hair" by Willow Smith and I'm still standing here. @Osirizoran Oh hell no, I'm not getting into that argument.

I think the will redo the entire inventory screen in the standalone. Sadly, the current engine seems to be very limited in ways of customization such as this (we can't even get a quiver for the crossbow). Agree, but it's way down on the "to-do" list.

US 1547 Admin kicking and Banning
Deathcall replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Since I live really far away from any of the servers, I usually play with a ping over 250. Many servers choose not to let people like me join. I'm not really mad about it, but it makes me wonder, is 250 SO BAD that I'm not allowed to play? I mean... who is affected by my ping? Worst is when servers which I was able to join before change their politics and block me out. I have lost several camps and vehicles to that. -
I'm not truly well versed in ballistics but... I remember something about the Vietnam War where guns had their calibers redone so they would actually wound instead of kill. The idea behind this was that wounded soldiers were a burden to the enemy, so they were preferable to dead ones. When you think about it, it didn't work that well for the americans...

Quick, someone post a picture of an amazed kitten or something!

People need to stop treating DayZ as if they actually payed for it. If you bought Arma 2 just so you could play a mod which is on it's alpha state... well... what right do you have to complain? Hackers ruin everyone's day, no argument there. Wish they could fix it while still working on making DayZ into a proper game, but if they can't, I'm not gonna cry about losing some loot which I know I would have lost the next time some bandit spotted me across a field. We have to suck it up. Enjoy testing the alpha and contribute to making DayZ become the best game possible. If you are just not having anymore fun, then leave the testing to us and come back once it's standalone.

I used to feel that once you exchanged Skypes everything was "cool"... Sadly it's not. Only loyalty and friendship will keep you safe in DayZ, and those seem to be some rare high-yield loot with no clear spawn location.

Happened about 20 mins ago in US 500 too. Hacker first nuked the server, then waited for everyone to spawn, teleported us all to Komarovo and turned us into dogs, then chickens, then he spawned a heli and turned us into humans again. Someone got inside and gunned everyone down. After that (when I managed to log in again), he ported us to the NAF and spawned guns and helis. The server reseted and now I'm waiting to log in. It was fun. But I bet a lot of people is pissed right now.

I will never be a bandit. Survivor nice-guy stories
Deathcall replied to IroquoisPliskin (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Another story... So I come home after work (yeah, I work on sundays, kinda sucks I know) and log into a random server because I couldn't find my usual one. I start heading to Electro to try and meet some people when all my loot disappears, I get shape shifted into a goat and ported to what I believe where the docks of Cherno along with (I guess) all the server. Long story short, I fed myself to some infected and left the server. After considering a rant on the forums I opted out and looked for my home server. Luckly, I found it using the in-game multiplayer browser. I spawned nearby Electro, so I headed to my camp and got me some weapons and supplies, then got back to the city and stayed overwatch on the hill (you know the one I'm talking about) waiting to see other people. When I was about to give up and head to Cherno, I spot a survivor running away from zombies and heading to the supermakret. I sniped a couple infected that were chasing him and waited to see what he'd do. It seems he was afraid I'd kill him (he had no idea where I was) so he stayed there for a long while, so long that I actually though he had aborted, but just as I was going to head into the city to grab some food and drinks I saw him moving to the school building. I got back to my position and sniped a couple more zombies that were chasing him, he went to the rooftop and stayed there for another long time. Eventually, he went down and looted the hospital's rooftop. I had my sights on him all along, and as he started heading towards the power plant I ditched my sniper under a tree along with anything that I'd miss if I died, and ran up to him as he was being chased by zombies. We both ran along the road until we came to the plant. I used this opportunity to talk to him and propose we work together. Of course, I wasn't sure he wouldn't just shoot me once I killed the zombies entering the power plant's firestation, but I'm used to it by now so I thought it was worth a shot. Surprisingly, he was more than happy to join up with me. I gave him my back-up (an AK-Kobra with some mags) and led him to my camp. Along the way we met another survivor who was being chased by zombies. We helped him out (actually, he did, I just shot the guy by mistake, luckly he didn't die) and asked him if he wanted to join us, but the guy aborted. Sad, but well. At my camp I told him to pick anything he wanted (I'm well stocked) and proposed a trip to Berezino, just for the kicks. We took my vehicle and headed up north. We had some fun looting the town until we hit the area with all the artifacts, so we decided to go back to the vehicle and head up north to the airfield. We ditched our transport about a mile away and scouted the airfield hoping for a UAZ or a chopper, sadly there was none to be found. Since it was getting really dark, we decided to head back to camp, but when we came back the car was gone. It was a big downer, but I told him it okay, vechiles switch hands all the time, now someone else was enjoying it. Of course, I missed it, but what can you do about it? Well, search of course, and on our way back, we went through the Black Lake and there it was. It seems that the survivor who took it was silly enough to move it about 2 miles and ditch it for some reason. So jumped back in and made it back to camp. We didn't have much to show for our trip, but it was fun, and that's what was important. At camp, we decided to go to Electro again and see if we could find him a better pack (he had a Czech, and I had no spares). We decked ourselves out in NVGs and some CQC weapons and went up the same hill where I had seen him for the first time. We scouted the town with binocs and saw no infected or people, so we went down to the market. There, as he was looting an ALICE pack, he got shot by a bandit who came in through the back-door. I promptly unloaded on the bandit's face with my MP5, still, my friend had died, and we had never exchanged skype or steam IDs, we had communicated through in-game voice-coms all along. Without time for regrets (I was worried all the gunshots would attrack more infected and other survivors) I looted the high-end things from my friend, buried the bandit's corpse, and headed back to camp. Thus ended my day on Day Z. To my newly found and lost friend, MyHotSalad (some name you have pal'), you are always welcome in my camp. To Mushy the bandit, you are a fool. If you had but a couple more neurons, you would have talked to us first. I'm always friendly, never shoot first. I would have welcomed you the same way I welcomed the guy you killed. I would have given you NVGs as well and high-end guns as well. But no, you had to be a bandit and KOS. To all bandits out there, you are fools to KOS. Not only do you ruin someone's day, but also, you miss out on some great opportunities like this guy Mushy here. He could have logged today with pretty much the best lot around, and two new friends. But no, he died a stupid death and lost everything. Not only that, but he cost me a friend too. -
I sincerely don't see why you say this. If you are a fresh spawned, you pretty much HAVE to go through cherno or electro to pick up your starting gear, unless you want to risk going north without medical supplies (I tried, got my legs broken 10 kms away from the closest hospital, trust me, it's a long crawl). If you are a bandit, it seems like a great place to get kills... Seriously, Cherno and Electro are main hubs for player interaction. Where else can you be so certain to see other people? Even high value areas like the NAF don't have that many people around since most of the guys who make it over there are so worried they'll lose the loot they got in Stary (after dodging snipers for an hour) they'll run at the first sign of human presence! Chernogosk and Electrozavodsk are the best places to have fun in this mod (at least for me). What's the point of getting a SVD camo and hiding it away in a tent somewhere up north when you can kill someone just as well with an enfield or AK?

At the risk of generalizing, Chimaera, most likely to kill other players. Though, I may be unfair on this statement, most likely so they can defend themselves from other players. Still a sad statement.

Would that work theRapist? I keep getting this message when I respawn that I have to choose a gender and that it'll be bound to my CD Key, but I can choose either everytime. Is that even related? -
Or... Soldiers fled their posts during the initial outbreak and went to the cities to protect their loved ones with their gear? I know, it's kinda far-fetched, but possible!

Not sure what's the deal with the story behind Day Z, but Chernarus has seen a lot of military action (hence all the guns - american and russian - lying around), so I think that it's not a problem of how many "civilians" own them, but how many the now-dead military left behind.

I'm sure the problem is dire Folic, but I'm not sure you are being fair when you say that this could affect the standalone version as well. If it runs on a different engine, all the Arma2 cheats that hackers use in DayZ should be become useless... Of course, nothing prevents them from conjuring up new ways to cheat, but still... -
Dra6oOn has the truth of it. Sadly, it'd make things too difficult. Perhaps some cars can spawn with relatively easy things to repair (windglasses, no fuel, some flat tires) and these can be used to tow other vehicles to places where the neccesary tools to perform more throrough repairs?

I know it's off-topic but theRapist just got me thinking... Why aren't there any tanks? I mean... besides the fact that they'd be incredibly overpowered and pretty much ruin everyone's days (if you aren't allied with the tank's crew)... I mean... Sedans survive the zombie apocalypse but armored vehicles don't? *shrugs* Not to be a complete troll, I haven't seen a hacker yet, but it does seem like it's a big problem. Will the "killed by" thing work though? Can't they change their user name? Or do you ban IPs rather than names? Sorry, have no knowledge of server control. -
Rocket should spare no expenses on this?

I think I have the best time in this game during night. If you just spawn, it's kinda hard, because you really can't see anything (in my case, even with full brightness+gamma it's still pitch black). In this cases, I try to get my bearings from my spawn point and head to the closest city (usually either Cherno or Electro), sticking to the coast. Once nearby (can tell from the buildings blocking the sky) I use my flashlight, but very carefully, aiming at the floor and trying to sprint to the closest lootable building. Once I got chemlights, it's another story. Their "soft" light allows you to move with more precision while staying virtually invisble (other players have to be close to spot the light coming from you and zombies don't seem to notice it). Have you ever gone inside the office (or school) building in Electro with a chemlight? I tell you, it made me remember Silent Hill for a moment (and the game's music is pretty similar too!). Besides, Pyramid Head might not be lurking around the corners, but other survivors scare me just as much.

Small boats and fishing boats have about 15km/h maximum speed (according to the wiki), while the PBX is about 60. Quite the difference isn't it? I'm up for speeding up the boats, or adding more variety (row boats for example). However, what will happen to all those guys who are confident nobody will ever drive a boat down to Stalinsky Island and raid their camps? Sucks to be them! I think it'd be easy to increase their speed, but if they do, decrease the spawn rate to near helicopter levels, so we don't have a flotilla going up and down the coast (not that there's actually any use in doing that since all the good loot is way north, but still).

Judging by the location of your headquarters I'd say that if you were to be besiedged you'd be left in a bad position. There's no water well in that mountain, and hunting game in the nearby forests while trying to keep the peace across camp (against legit raiders and ghosters alike) seems like an impossible task. Even taking into consideration that you might have stockpiles of food and water (and ammo), the amount of people playing protection for the camp must be so numerous that those should run out sooner than later. Have you ever faced organized opposition? At least on similar numbers to your own? That'd make a good video I bet. Oh, by the way, how do you prevent infected from spawning there? Anyway, I think you guys are doing pretty good. Of course, there's the obvious advantage of having your own server, but still. -
Wow... their are some real pieces of shit out there
Deathcall replied to xaian's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Bah, I frown at your logic Kieron. Why would you kill a potential ally just because he has a better gun than yours? As if good assault rifles (or pretty much anything but NVGs or other really rare stuff) are hard to come by in this game. Even people who say "I only kill if I'm really low on food or water", that's also pretty damn silly, since if the person has some, you can trade or simply ask if he can spare it. But no, people choose to kill others, and you know why? 'Cause it's too damn easy. The idea is to survive the infected, and you can do that better with a handgun and a hatchet than with sniper rifles. People kill because they are either afraid of being killed themselves or because they seek to actively kill other players. Purposes for this are simply to perpetuate their time in the game. Everyone is entitled to play as they like, but lets not coat that behaviour with reasons that are simply not true. -

Good idea, and bound to be beset by bandits trying to loot your things. I'd like to join in as protection, tired of being shot in the face because I'm too nice to KOS.
