The solution to murdering bandits and griefers
Altze replied to JD_274's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Pretty good idea actually. Make them a spawnable item just like the map. And in just the same way as everyone can see everyones notations on a map, so too are the notebooks linked. Actually, it's kinda cool because players will actually start to make a name/reputation for themselves rather than just 'he's a generic bandit with a bandit skin'. It absolves the banditry in defense thing if kills are absolved every few days. I.E. If someone WANTS to be a bandit, then they will be and they'll have to kill regularly to keep that reputation. If someone WANTS to be a neutral, dodgy, untrustworthy and backstabbing character well then hey, they can be.. But they can only do it every so often as they'll have to balance between becomming flagged a murderer and their backstabbing ways. If someone WANTS to stay as a survivor then they can. It would just be about tweaking the numbers required for status changes and rate of deterioration for kills for a system like this to work. (+/- if any other actions help deteriorate kills slightly). Actually reminds me somewhat of the old UO murderer status system and that worked quite well. Kill a HELL of a lot and it's going to take a damn long time (sometimes weeks or months worth) for those kills to dissolve. -
Where am I ? I can see a very tall red structure.

Depends, but sounds like Green Mountain possibly. -
I'm guessing you're running steam version but I'll outline the method I've used without fail. Run the patch. The window it opens will say patched successfully. After you exit it, WINDOWS will always pop asking 'did this install correctly' just hit 'this installed correctly' and ignore it. Go to your steamapps\Arma2 OA\Expansion\beta If you just want to play without steam run the ArmA2OA.exe file from this directory. If you want to launch via steam then read on: Copy Arma2oa.exe from that beta directory to your steamapps\Arma2 OA\ directory. (if not steam version you can just launch with that beta exe no need to copy) To launch via steam right click on Arma2: OA in your library. --> Properties --> Set launch options and use: -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion;CA;@DayZ Right click Arma2: OA --> Launch Combined Ops (to play) Repeat the above steps for each patch (no need to reset launch options that part is permanent). The above is for ARMA2 beta patches. Fo DayZ patches, just copy/paste the files and overwrite within steamapps\Arma2 OA\Expansion\@dayz The above steps work just as well with the non-steam version as well it'll just be different directories. The above worked just fine after the latest steam downloading as well (I applied the latest beta patch *after* steam did its thing).

As I said, just hit the very center sliding doors. This works for everyone and has always worked for myself and all my mates.

Attack the sliding doors in the very center (usually under the awning). Takes about 3 or 4 hatchet swings and 2 or 3 bullets from most guns. Should visibily see all the windows start to get damaged then break by just attacking the very center sliding doors.

Vehicles can still be kept off map/out of bounds. It just needs to be 'refreshed' every 24 hours or it will despawn. This is still a completely broken mechanic because the groups that hoarde all these vehicles will have someone who's able to log in and just mvoe the vehicles 2 pixels to keep it refreshed. Vechiles should be forced to be kept inside the games boundaries just as much as tents are. If vehicle is kept out of bounds it'll despawn if not used within say ~4 hours. This would stop the piss poor rate of vehicle spawns. Besides, if you do pinch a vehicle from what it seems most people will just hack to find it again. Pretty sad state of affairs

As someone who works in medical field I can tell you it would be entirely possible. Cannulating (which is a more difficult skill than direct injection or draw) yourself is entirely doable. After that a monkey could transfuse itself, spike a bag prime a line which coud be done beforehand (or after doesnt really matter once cannulated if its secured its not going anywhere and you can use both arms again). So not really a realistic feature as such, but certainly I wouldn't change it for the game.

Oh I know it's another problem entirely but it's connected in that if we start punishing ALT-F4ing now we are actually rewarding hackers.Hacking is getting incredibly rampant. It would be prudent for them to have someone sit down and do some mass bannings and someone to be doing a shiteload of bannings over the next week or two to A) reduce the pool of people who do/are hacking B) create some immediate consequence in peoples minds for hacking. That should discourage for awhile at least. Its also behavioural conditioning for the better overall for not just DayZ but even other games. Punish someone too late after a negative action or behaviour is performed and that punishments effectiveness is greatly reduced. Punish someone during the act/behaviour or immediately afterwards and it is the most effective. Whilst I understand immediate isn't likely possible because ARMA's anti-cheat security is dogs balls. People still need to start getting banned and getting banned sooner after cheating than what is occuring now as I said even just for awhile to stem the tide.

I'd honestly prefer they fix/put the lid on hacking a bit before getting rid of ALT-F4'ing. I've Alt-F4'd in every single session I've played recently.... Because in every single session I've been teleported to some random place, turned into an rabbit and ported etc. etc. Last night myself and two mates set up an ambush and killed 5 guys, you guess it and soon as they were dead the server got ported. We survived by ALT-F4ing, when we logged back we were where we got ported with dead bodies everywhere. It was a ~2km run back to where we killed the group. Got back there to find one of them had satchel charges, another had FAL with another having M249 SAW which if you attempted to pick up caused your backpack to vanish (it would appear again if you put it back on the body). Whether that part ith the SAW is legit or not I do not know as I have never seen one but I do know the charges are not legit and I suspect that player spawned the FAL and SAW for his buddies as the rest of their gear didn't add up for a player that had found those weapons (no Secondaries, no matches, no hunting knives etc. etc.) plus they were close to the coast. The amount of hacking I've seen compared to the amount of combat DCers in my entire DayZ experience (been playing quite awhile but only just starting to post) is almost incomparable. There are far more hackers than combat DCers and you know what? I'd rather someone combat DCs on me than me being killed by a hacker and him getting his anti-social assed way.

No. Think of despawning bodies and equipment as an economic guardrail. If anything it should despawn before you even have a chance to get halfway back to it. Having gear stick around longer means more chance of people looting it. More gear around just means the value of everything dropped substantially as theres more of it in circulation. Gear is DayZ's economy and needs to be protected from the already stupid inflation point its at.
