A 21 hour day/night cycle would be really cool, or any odd number of hours below 24 really. Long enough to feel like a regular day, but off enough to give you different hours of the day/night each time you play.

Definitely a required change. It'd be nice to be able to play around with the ArmA3 Ballistic Tracer script to see wtf is going on with penetration, ricochets, how far you can really shoot, etc.

TBH the real question is "Why RV2.5 (ArmA2/Take On Helicopters) and not RV3 (ArmA3)?" But of course the answer is "get the game out faster!" Wish they waited a few months for ArmA3's engine to be finished up for ArmA3's Alpha at least... DayZ:SA still feels like an old mod due to its old engine version.

Well this new patch sucks, can't find anything

Those short pants are not nearly as short as I expected :( -
SHACKER is such a brilliant mission. Also those videos were almost certainly recorded before the insanely short body despawn timer was added.

Rocket answers to everyone who complains about 3D view
dsi24 replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
You said third person isn't an exploit then went on to explain why it's exploitable, thanks! PS: third person was not "developed into the game" it hasn't been touched at all by Rocket or any DayZ dev. (with public results at least) It's forgotten baggage from the massive co-op side of the ArmA series which is getting heavier and heavier by the day. -

A) You aren't sprinting very fast for very long (and won't be able to shoot for shit afterwards) B) You're stopping blood loss, not healing try again please -
That isn't what he said, but of course all you people do is wilfully misread things so you can argue a point that no one is even talking about.

Wow, just wow.

Nights simply too dark. Like walking on the dark side of the moon.

"Nighttime is too dark!" This is the DayZ community. -
PvE servers are the peripheral dot, name plate, third person servers of the Standalone. Make it easy to try and attract people.

Whats the Burlap Sack For ? Here is the Answer !

It'd be hilarious to cut holes in it and act like you're blind to see how people react to you. -
Note that you had to move as well. You don't have to sit in corners every second of your life in first person.
-
Exploits that are readily available to everyone are still exploits... It's really as simple as this image, though some people prefer to ignore it. Note that it's impossible for the viewer to exploit third person to see the other player.

I'm all for the 4th wall mod, but the devs aren't. But third person isn't the only ingredient you need to abuse third person. You need a wall, building, bush, tree, or rock. These are things that don't move, so if you want to exploit third person you have to sit around camping somewhere - be it fresh spawn zones, a rooftop in a city, or other high traffic areas. The need to exploit third person to do well encourages the static KoS gameplay that people hate so much, as well as making it much harder (read: impossible) to fight against. Dslyecxi's recent DayZ video is a great example of that, if he was in a third person server he would never have had the chance to spot the sniper that was pestering him and 3 other players. All the sniper had to do was sit behind a rock or bush in third person, look for a target, pop out when the target isn't paying attention, and take his shot(s). But because third person was disabled, the sniper had to make himself visible to be able to acquire targets, which gave a couple of aware players the chance to spot him, maneuver on him, and kill him.

Yeah, I wonder why... (oh yeah, they only use third person in *ahem* certain situations)

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

Can everyone just post "no" as the entirety of their post until this thread is gone? I can't believe someone actually wants to recreate the hellhole of KoS that is DayZ in DayZSA. -
It'd be absolutely amazing if they removed first person, remember kids, that means no weapon sights.
-
If you want to exploit third person, go play the mod. Don't try and keep ArmA's co-op baggage in DayZ:SA for the devs to have to constantly work around.

If you want to play on an easily exploited 3PP server the mod version of the game is still around for you to go to. -

The 'see around corners' debate is moot. Everyone has the same advantage so no one has an edge. No, it does not work that way, everyone has third person, everyone doesn't have a wall, bush, rock, tree etc to hide behind and use to exploit at all times. Everyone has the ability to exploit, but everyone can't be exploiting all the time. Plus neither view is 'realistic' by any means. Third person makes you super-human, first person makes you pretty much human (double tap numpad- for peripheral vision) -
If Rocket goes ahead with the idea of just keeping two different games instead of one game (2 hives with vastly different gameplay instead of 1 hive) then either A) Dev time will be split evenly between two different games, making new things come at an even slower pace (a mirror for looking around corners would be great for first person, but who gives a rat's ass in third person world?) or B) one of the games will become depreciated due to the other getting features accustomed to it (a dug in stash in the ground would be great for first person, it'd be hard for people to scan for them constantly, in third person world all you do is include a bit more of the ground in your screen and bam you're scanning a massive area from a close to top-down perspective, who would ever use stashes in such a game?)

DayZ is going for realistically hard (or at least, it will be when third person is gone), not unrealistically hard. The human eye isn't a dumb camera, it's surrounded by muscles and filled with membranes that let us focus, scan, and pay more or less attention to parts of our entire forward facing field of vision. Specifically, zoom emulates accommodation, or, the ability for the human eye to change focal points (focus on something far = zoom in). (Zoom out emulates our ability to see things in the entirety of our forward facing field of vision without moving our head) Third person of course emulates nothing, it's an invisible camera on an invisible stick. -

That zoom is the equivalent of focusing on something with your eyes. The default zoom being general awareness, and zoom out being CQB awareness (eyes constantly shifting to pay attention to the majority of your FoV will have a hard time noticing things that are in the distance, zoom out sacrifices far range vision for close range vision, while no zoom is a balance between heavy focus and constant darting around). You cannot simulate what our eyes and brains can do with a screen, but you can do a pretty damn fine job emulating it; just like ArmA3's stances do for the range of human stances.
