  1. Prereq: Make NVGs and flashlights use batteries like rangefinders, etc do in ACE. 1 flashlight 2 batteries (one inside, one spare) 1 bandage 1 painkiller
  2. You can grab the best gear in Dayz within 3 hours if you know what you're doing. It's not about being able to grab the best gear; anyone with half a brain can do that. It's about the fact that the sense of immersion of having to utilize a combination of speed and stealth is completely broken due to super zombies that can see/sense you from anywhere coming from a mile away, particularly during day time. I don't understand these super zombies everyone is talking about, I went afk for ~10 minutes and when I came back there were zeds less than 10 meters away, I crouch walked away no problems. Have none of you ever played a stealth game?

    Players without gun = less dangerous to others Players without other supplies = less of a target. You're safer this way.

The motivations have changed because players have figured out the game, zombies are barely a threat, but finding the best weapons/vehicles/packs/skins is hard if you're just checking loot spots over and over, the best way to get the best stuff is to take it from others. (and they may not have gotten that stuff legitimately either)

  12. YES. Benefits outweigh negatives. Spawning without takes bite off DMers, if sidearms aren't very rare it's good (was a warzone...)
  13. While I love the idea of this, the current exploitable state of the game would make it impossible to pull off. Also, if you broadcast your location for mobile trade you're still gonna get ambushed, and if you don't players who would otherwise trade with you might avoid you or even ambush you. (unless you figure out some system of looking like a caravan, maybe vehicles going slow speed with walking guards around it?) The only thing that needs to be fixed is server hopping, and I think it's a pretty deep problem with the system. I really like the trade network idea though, schedule a meeting with representatives through some third party system like Steam, IRC, or Mumble, and they can ride out fast carrying just what you want to trade for (and enough personal provisions and a PDW or something) on ATVs or some sort of off-road vehicle. The main stash itself would have to keep moving though...

    Pending Update 1.7.1 Details

    It's not a question of my technical ability, it's the question of the hassle. I'm more than competent and confident enough to get the game running. I did so in 1.6, and I could do so again. My job has far more complicated things going on than this, spanning 3 operating systems. I don't want to spend over an hour trying to get all my friends up and running to play again. I probably will, but it's a PITA. The proof lies in a ton of the posts on this thread asking why they can't get their installation working. Either you have 60 friends playing the game or you're just stumbling around not knowing what to do, figuring it out as you go every single time. I think the jagged running is intentional Sykotix.

    The hatchet.

    Firewood is only needed if you're trying to keep a fire going, if you want to get really detailed here is a 'proper' system that doesn't rely on idiotic bullshit: 1) Matches spawn as normal, but have limited uses. 2) Forests have a similar feature to ponds, at any point a player can use the "Collect Kindling" action, this is limited by area (or by time delay if by area isn't feasible) 3) If the player tries to start a campfire in a forest, without kindling in his pack, he automatically gathers it and uses up that and a match. In plains and urban areas you can only light fires from kindling in your pack. 4) A fire will only last a couple of minutes without being fueled more, a slot of kindling in your pack is worth about two minutes of fire. BONUS OPTION 5) Take time to cook meat, add purification of water and make that take time too. Trying to collect firewood in a survival situation is hilariously stupid unless you've already got lodgings and plan on staying through winter.
  18. Need for firewood takes away from the game's sense of realism and freedom, it's terrible. Kindling is everywhere, limit the amount of matches per matchbox instead.

    The hatchet is a bandaid applied to a flawed system, it doesn't fix a thing. Kindling is everywhere in Chenarus no need to collect wood, limit match usage instead.

  21. This game is becoming PvP-only because for some batshit insane reason Rocket decided to listen to the whiners about zombies instead of ignoring them completely. Now we have counts in the 600s for 255km^2 territory. There isn't any PvE for random players to group up against, because for some reason, Rocket decided to listen to people who wanted to get rid of zombies in a zombie game. Grouping is only useful for PvP because anyone can sneak through a town and get anything they need, but without PvE to encourage grouping, only communities from other games will be grouped up. Zombie counts need to be at least doubled to 1200+, with respawn delays at ~20 minutes.
