One does not simply play Dayz..
[email protected] replied to dirtyzerg's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
No I can completely relate, it isn't as easy as pie, especially if you are used to clicking an icon and playing... You could try doing what that dude said though, just literally move the whole install files and correct this within DayZ commander. Not sure if that would work as I went down the BI store route, but if you have to reinstall anyway, try away! -
Every 10 seconds dayz goes from 40 fps to 7 and pretty much freezes and then goes back up
[email protected] replied to Foxxmaa (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Sounds like an overheating issue to me... But I could be wrong, your specs seem capable of running it, on low mind. What exact settings are you using in DayZ? -
ArmA 2 Operations Arrowhead Cannot open files "language.pbo" Help ?
[email protected] replied to AliceHunted's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Well, I don't know why you have that, bum install perhaps? But it appears as though you're opening OA directly, you don't need to, or have any business doing so... Install Arma II, OA, and the beta, then get DayZCommander or SixUpdater (but get DayZ Commander), and install/run DayZ from there... -
Framerate Issue, not sure why
[email protected] replied to Rayan (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Well your specs and past experience with the game suggest you should have no difficulty... Try a fresh install? Can work wonders ya know ;-D -
Number of vehicles on standard game servers
[email protected] replied to mrspoon (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The wiki is inaccurate, so is DayZdb. It's especially noticeable since the 1.7.4.4 update... Take what wiki says as a guide but don't rely on it IMHO. -
Whats up with loot saves?
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is more likely than not that you've been going between private and official hive servers. However when I first got the game I had difficulties getting any item changes to save, couldn't be explained then or now and I think that for the moment, a lot of problems like this follow that same rule... But hey don't complain you got your stuff back ;-) -
I've spawned on the beach with all my items before, and i've spawned where i logged off with no items before, but never with upgrades :-D. Perhaps you had some similar equipment before and the database has for some reason reverted you back or something? or what A_Typical_Noob said, you were pissed lol.

First off, I'd like to stress that i'm a strong advocate of progression in design through additions to core features, and I, like others do embrace the coming changes and additions that the dev team are working so hard on (and beans for you all). I've been reading around on the .4 update thread and others, seen a lot of people grimace in the face of diseases, weapon degradation, weapon removal/additions etc. And whilst I have all confidence in the creative direction of the game, and the community awareness the dev team has, I am also aware that there are good points to be taken from those who aren't keen on these and further changes. The fact is, change is great, up until a point, at which point these changes will start to detract from the basic premise of the game as a whole. Minecraft is the example I use but this isn't exclusive. I love Minecraft, it like DayZ has a simple concept that works extremely well in it's respective genre. But during the course of development, and up until this day, more and more content has and is being added, until we get to the stage where there is so much content to process and commit to memory, that it can become overwhelming. I understand that with Minecraft at least it appears as though the wanted to open up the game to different play styles, ergo different consumer groups, and perhaps wanted to add more for those players to do within the game, but when it gets to a point where long-term players such as myself have to play content-catch-up every month or so I have found it saps my desire to actually switch on and play. Now far from suggesting that this is the way DayZ is headed, i'm merely pointing out to the masses that although what could be considered as rather large game changes are on the horizon, this is still the DayZ we know and love, and until the time comes where updates leave us baffled about their relevance to the concept, it will remain so. But it is worth remembering that to much of a good thing... And then I can't quite remember the end of that saying but you get my thinking :D. Oh just in case people decide that my opinion on what games like Minecraft (IMHO) and others have done to their core concept is without merit, Social Psychology is something I covered during my degree and fit's neatly into what I've said, these studies should help clarify my point: http://oai.dtic.mil/...ifier=ADA115078 http://psycnet.apa.o...ls/rev/63/2/81/ http://www.osti.gov/...osti_id=5673179 http://ieeexplore.ie...rnumber=1254447

Don't do what Minecraft did...
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Oh the payment method is great, I love it, this is purely content related. -
Just because he came onto your server a night ago doesn't mean he hacked it in, if he has the weapon in his inventory there it would stay. (unless your server is not on the hive?). And satchel charges, whilst i've never seen one, can be found if a player is persistently making the barracks spawn new stuff. It could take a day or so, but it is achievable...

Don't do what Minecraft did...
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think a few of you might have took the wrong message from what I said. I personally do like the upcoming changes, and I know the game needs it, especially being a pre-alpha game/mod typed thingy. My point Minecraft is that it isn't the same game it once was. It WAS an open-world building game with the bonus of zombies. But now it's focus has shifted to potions enchantments, bonus powers and leveling up... Now to some i'm sure that's awesome but personally, that isn't the game I paid for and enjoyed. But like someone was saying fan base made mods can alter things like this, when I ran a minecraft server I used many mods in order to change the experience. I guess my primary point was that DayZ IS NOT on that path, at the present, and I like that the dev's will chop and change to suit the style originally intended. But it can't hurt to point out that there is another side to it, a different way this could go, and drawing from my own experience (which is important to remember here) too much of a good thing WILL make a difference to the overall impact the game has. Peace & Love :D -

Cars-Trucks-Helis saving off map.
[email protected] replied to Cbraccia's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I believe they fixed that, although me and my friend found a GAZ out of bounds the other day, so good question lol. -
I think the swimming system could do with an overhaul at some point down the line, the animation and speed is sluggish. It would also be quite nice to have more going on out in the ocean, there is plenty of it and adding a couple more islands here and there would make for some interesting inter-player situations, as well as giving more robust uses for boats and helicopters.
-
Well, I know that there is a lot of work going into Chernarus+ but I haven't personally read anything about islands, or swimming for that matter, besides there are other ways this could branch out too... Underwater would be awesome, i'm thinking that if there ever are tunnels this would be a great way to hide an entrance. And what about fishing as a source of food on that note?

All around difficulty getting DayZ to work
[email protected] replied to atmawpn89's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Yeah I would seriously consider trying DayZ commander, all you need is a fresh install like the guy above said, download it and it will do the rest, it's pretty painless. DayZ Commander also allows you to downgrade with ease @Causarious. -
Anyway to make DayZ more playable?
[email protected] replied to kidkaor's topic in New Player Discussion
so now you know you can run it smoothly with those settings you can try increasing things gradually. start with textures, makes a huge difference to the appearance. then tweak around until it starts to lag. If you cant get any inprovement, get a new system :-D. you can get decent barebones pcs for around £200 on ebay. -

Anyway to make DayZ more playable?
[email protected] replied to kidkaor's topic in New Player Discussion
That should be the same as your native screen resolution. Unlike most games Arma has a seperate resolution for its interface and video, set them both the same and at the same size as you normally use. You can also turn down visibility to 1600 (maximum sniper range), turn off opengl, set graphics usage to auto, obviously turn everything else low or off. And hope for the best. EDIT: Oh I assume you have already updated your graphic card's drivers? And it's worth noting that Arma II uses a lot more CPU power OFFLINE compared to playing multiplayer (DayZ itself) so if you're only benchmarking offline I would suggest that you test any changes by joining servers. (the busier they are the less likely there will be any server side lag, better for testing). -
Recruiting players 13+ for new DayZ group "B4L" [bandits 4 life]

I'm not surprised you expect to die often if you're recruiting at 13+. Fail. -
All around difficulty getting DayZ to work
[email protected] replied to atmawpn89's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
You could try using Arma II Free if you are having CD key troubles, although really you're in the wrong forum, you're not at the "Day Z doesn't work" stage yet lol. Maybe try the actual Arma forum? Or wait for the standalone :-D -
Ok so i'm more of a lone wolf player usually, however for the past week i've been playing with some mates, stockpiling loot using tents, making ourselves a little camp site. Then last night I get a text saying that the server has been restarted and as a result, our tents our no more. This apparently is not the first time this has happened to these guys either (on different servers). Now i'm used to playing out of my coyote pack, so I am unversed in the ways of the tent, so just curious, is this a client-side problem? Does this happen on all servers as of the latest patch? Or is this just badly configured/managed servers and poor player choices?

Server restart = Server reset?
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
no these servers are connected to the hive, characters remain intact and with their gear. Presumably i should just try a different server :-D. i suppose the more popular ones would be more reliable (hence their player count) but I was really hoping to avoid SUCH busy servers, i have a lot of loot which im quite protective of, and whilst i enjoy play conflicts, i dont enjoy players around every corner lol. -
New Standalone Screenshots released
[email protected] replied to mattlightfoot's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Looking great so far, I think we all appreciate the sneak peak, even if it is particularly sneaky and peaky. I'm just hoping that loot will be spawning in/on things other than the floor in the standalone, i'm getting old and my calves don't enjoy the constant squatting :-D -
So i'm aware there aren't all that many spawn sites for the pro's to loot, but where do you choose in your time of Stanag need? I personally go for Stary Sobor as my good fortune seems to be tied to that place, Coyote packs, M9 SD etc. Still waiting on some NVG and a GPS though damn it...
