It is. That's why they set it up that way in the mission. OP I would suggest that you don't alter your mission file. I've talked to two different people from the server host team on this issue a few days ago, they both said side chat is not supposed to be enabled. -

Keep in mind, spawns are not consistent. Vehicles don't always show up in the same spots. Ander is very devious about that. ;) -

I can guarantee you there are vehicle objects being loaded if you found vehicles in your server. :) EDIT: Looks like they removed the object loading from the .rpt - But yeah, if you see vehicles, I'm sure there are others. -

While I cannot answer the question for a hosted server' date=' you can if you have access to the system time. You should be able to set the time zone to your preference. As long as it ticks forward like normal time, I don't see why you would get in trouble. (As in set a time zone and leave it. No changing to different time zones to get more light/dak throughout the day) No. There are no reserve slots for DayZ. Not even for the administrator. You can kick lobby idlers, but that's about it in the way of making room for people who aren't squatting. Have you tried filtering for servers in arma for things matching your desired UTC/GMT (ie -5 or +2, etc.) Chances are there are a few servers that will meet your requirements. Might be easier in the long run, DayZ definitely takes a little more TLC to administrate than other online games. Don't let me discourage you from renting, just make sure you're ready for it if you do. ;) -

It should have rebooted on it's own about 5 minutes ago (just remoted in to verify). Usually if you get stuck at the loading screen, it has something to do with reading characters from the main database. If it's still happening, feel free to let me know. :) -

I've seen them there the entire time, even before 1.7.1.5 ;) We knew they were apart of the engine, but with everything off, I figured there wasn't anything we could do to disable it. Then stumbling across posts here on the daymod forums and on BI hits the nail on the head. In all honesty, it's not game breaking, I hear they don't show up at nights. You also can't decipher what's a zombie, dead body, player, etc. -

You don't need an SSD for an arma server. The biggest resource for the server is CPU. I'd imagine that setup could run 50 players, looks like somebody else did here: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=732 I can't guarantee the performance though, never used that processor. So I'd double check with a few others to be safe. Side question, what speed is the network the box will be on: 10, 100, or 1000? -

Not sure what the time zone is for this server, but if the time is de-synced then the server will need to be rebooted. It should be rebooted every 4-8 hours depending on server load, fps, and hive interaction de-syncs (not the hive causing it, just the way the current ext works). -
People who run BEC lets it kick idle users. Usually after 3-5 minutes of sitting in the lobby (this value can be changed to whatever suits the server, but the minimum time is 180 seconds). So I don't see the problem in manually kicking idlers after 5-10 minutes.

From what I've been told you're not supposed to edit the mission file to enable side chat. I double checked with the server team in IRC. That's why Tansien ended up responding in this thread. -

Would you guys like the server to reboot every 6 hours like it is now, or have a set restart schedule? Also, are the rotating messages coming up too fast? I'm setting them to be slower on the next reboot. Every 37 minutes. -

Tents and vehicles are saved in the master database, not server side. ;) US 10 fits your requirements, however, at the current moment there's an issue with the hive that affecting a lot of servers as of this post. Some packet loss. :( -

Keep an eye on FPS usage, chances are your server is overloaded because you're hosting too many slots or your bandwidth settings aren't right. If your server runs full a lot, you'll have to reboot the server a bit more often. -

Will add that UTC = GMT (maybe I should throw in ZULU for good measure. I kid :P) Expert and Hardcore should = Mercenary. I'll update the post to reflect that. Technically hardcore isn't a stock arma difficulty afaik. So that is something that isn't following the naming scheme. I'll also add all the tags I know to the end of that section. Good call Skint. :) -

Checklist: 1) Does cfgdayz folder exist as well as cfgdayz.arm2oaprofile (sounds like you're not loading any profile) 2) You should create the batch file in the arma directory with "expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" just to make sure you're starting it in the main folder. The beta won't work otherwise? Target has to be the beta exe path but it has to start in arma2oapath, not arma2oapath\expansion\beta. 3) No need for the -beta tag afaik (but you can leave it in until you get it working) 4) Are your arma2 and arma2oa files combined? If your server launches and you get reading mission DayZ from bank... Over and over and over, you'll have to do this. -

I think there is a lot of confusion about hosting a server at home. Hosting a server at home =/= a private server. A server hosted from home could easily be connected to the hive and be public. The only difference is the location of the box (and dynamic ip, unless you get one from the ISP). Now I think the home server generalization is in the rules because a lot of people don't have the resources to be be able to host a large server from home (even if they think they do). Dedicateds are probably preferred because they are in data centers closer to backbones (better routes) than a home connection and are housed in a facility that should have reasonable uptimes compared to a home that could have power interruptions, bandwidth interruptions from usage in the house or just downtime in general. Plus once again, the whole dynamic IP thing and whitelisting. There's also the chances for you to get DDoSed, and without the proper hardware in front of the box, that can cripple you. I don't doubt that the OP has the ability to host from home, I just understand why the team is against home hosting in general. It does fend off a lot of potential headaches. -

The arma 2 dedicated server files are under tools in steam for download. However, that being said, the steam version of the dedicated server is moot because you'll be using the one in ARMA2OAPATH\expansion\beta\arma2oaserver.exe after you install the beta patch. :) You may also want to consider doing this: http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=19348
