    Pending Update 1.7.1 Details

Starting without a gun would make for an awesome Zombie survival mechanic. It will however make you unable to defend yourself from a single Zombie much less a player that has found a gun. The odds are you will find a primary weapon first. So, you will finally be able to use a flashlight. : ) As for changing some of the starting items. -1 Morphine injector -4 or 5 makrov clips (Start with Makarov 8|1 or 8|0) +1 Empty Whiskey Bottle (especially if you don't have a starting pistol) I am excited to test out the new zombie behaviors. This could really make ninja town runs exciting.
  2. I get the reasons behind your post but I truly believe that as the game progresses to a normal "finished" state you will have the servers you like to play on and start to develop a social aspect with other guys like you do in most FPS. Your list of Favorites, if you will. Most people now just clamor for a position on any server so they can play. If the server is acting weird you leave and start the mad dash all over again. ---- Keeping a record of your character on every server in the database would increase the DayZ server storage and load problems. Keeping them on the game server would open it up to easier hacking. Switching servers would wipe your character and basically defeat the persistence. Spawning them at a Random Starting Location with gear intact would allow them to overwhelm any new Survivor or open them up to a random Makarov death as they looked at a Map.
  3. I really enjoy the amounts of zombies in the last two patches (1.5.7 & .8) but I have noticed some behavior issues that bring up my observations and suggestions. I've spent the last few days just sneaking in towns, playing with the zombie mechanics a bit. You can certainly sneak through a town if you pay attention. You can Slow Crouch behind a Zombie at 5 meters and ghost him. You can lay down to reduce visibility and let them pass. All the awesome stealth stuff you would want. Sound and Visibility: Investigate Vs. Attack behaviors. - If a Zombie sees/hears you but cannot identify you he will turn and walk, hop, or crawl in your direction to Investigate. I love this mechanic because it forces you to decide what you are going to do next. No waiting or thinking or hoping but to me there seems to be too fine of a line between open aggression and investigation. Especially based off of sound. If a Zombie hears you with One Sound bar or more he will immediately go into Attack Mode even if he doesn't see you. These are generally the Sprinters that come running around the building just down the street or the fence that is just ahead. I don't mean running through a town with 5 Sound and 5 Visibility. I'm talking about having 0-1 Sound and 1-2 Visibilty then Normal Crouching over some Hardpacked earth or Road and I might as well have fired a Makarov shot off. Now this may be a sound balancing issue and not a Zombie issue. It could be related to the difference between one sound bar and no sound bar when stealthed..I don't know. Either way I think it can be balanced by Tweeking Zombie Behavior or Sound Strength. Summary: I suggest having Zombies investigate (turn and walk towards) minor sounds more than aggressively attacking you when they hear something. I would even toy with the idea of having gunshots only bring the closer zombies in attack mode and the ones farther away investigate mode. The farther ones are still coming but they won't attack mode until they hear a gunshot or sound again when they are closer. This would additionally provide more opportunities for the use of bottles and cans for distraction.

Which T-Shirt design would you buy?

#2 - Elegant in its simplicity. ---- #1 is preferred if you plan on doing another T-Shirt later.
  5. When you hear yourself giving youtube walkthrough commentaries to an imaginary newbie audience in the car on the way to work. ..the numbers on the right side are whats in your inventory...the numbers on the left side is what your are looting. What?...the backpack?...well...
  6. Spawn: Kamenka Time: Day My escape technique is at the bottom of the post, top is the back story. I spawned on the east side of Kamenka and headed Northwest to the road north out of Kamenka. I stopped off at a Deerstand/Watchtower and pick up two smoke grenades and an AKM with one clip. Yay. I then set off north to the next town, Pavlovo, to see if I can pick up some additional supplies. Well if you have ever been to Pavlovo the eastern side has a large open field dotted with sparse trees. A good place to try out the distance and accuracy on the AKM I had just found... Several Zombies are wandering in the open field next to the town and a few I can see up against the buildings. So I start to drop a couple zombies (using semi), well one Fast Zombie adds...then...a couple more...then they start coming out from the town...Hoppers, Sprinters...everyone. Side Note: AKM is loud folks. Zeroing is 300m...it can hit that far...I let one wander behind some bushes too close at about 130m or less. So I stand up and switch to the Makarov. I used the sprint, turn, shoot, sprint, turn shoot, method to keep them off. I kill maybe...7 and there are 5 more sprinters and some hoppers...ammo is getting really low on the Makarov...AKM has 12 bullets...So I sprint North and I see the Church in Pavlovo...ITS LOCKED UP TIGHT BTW. After gathering a few more Zombies in town I break north to Zelenogorsk. Large town, but it has to have some doorways I can use and maybe some Makarov rounds!!! Right?...right?... Along the way North I manage to take out all of the Fast Zombies with the sprint, turn, shoot method. I have no makarov rounds at this point and 1 AKM round. 8 Hoppers left chasing me...I see the Zelenogorsk on the horizon and the Market shining like a Beacon!!! It looks like I have left the Hoppers in the dust and I creep into the back door(s) of the Market. There isn't shit there. Zero Makarov rounds, no weapons, and tin cans out the ass. A 1911 with no ammo...and I hear grunting, close,...its the damned Hoppers!!!! They come hopping in...at this point, if you can imagine in your mind, I am kiting like 5 hoppers and now...Sprinters (walking indoors), through the isles of the Market...I get them in the corner and work my way back to the rear of the Market open the double doors and there is a damn zombie right there...I drop him with the AKM..zero bullets left...one of the guys inside is too close...I have to go outside....but then I remember I have a smoke grenade, two in fact. So I throw my smoke grenade just outside the open back door of the Market and I go back inside the far side back door (there are four double doors). In amazement I watch all of the Zombies walk towards the smoke grenade. I move back up to the front of the store and they stop coming....they aren't chasing me!!! They are congregated on the back door now...grunting and growling but not after me. I then used an Empty Whisky Bottle at the front double doors of the Market. I broke it on the door in a fail ass throw attempt but sure enough here they came to investigate that noise....after they came to the front door to investigate they dispersed...I'm now completely safe. For now. Summary: I successfully used a Smoke Grenade and an Empty Whiskey Bottle to lose a horde of zombies. Using a building large enough to pack a few zombies in, a barn would work, gather them up, enter the building luring them en, then exit the other side/exit and drop a smoke grenade just outside one of the exit. Then get out of line of site. Quietly. You can just aggro them again if you make noise.

    A few noob questions

    1) I get the same thing I have Arma2 and Operation Arrowhead, there are others and I believe the (lite) versions are portions from those other expansions. Its legit, don't worry about it. 2) When you see YOU ARE DEAD screen. Just hit ESC, select Abort then disconnect (you are not actually leaving the server). This will take you back to, what I call the BLUEFOR screen (aka the slot selection screen). From here you can hit ok like you did when you first joined the server to get back at it. 3) Waiting for Response happens to everyone at some point. Due to the popularity of this Mod the main server that holds everyone's information is getting hammered. Don't worry too much, wait or try a different server. 4) 1.5.8.2 might have a performance bug atm, we don't know for sure what can be causing it until the Dev Team has a look into it. Other than that you should do your normal video options to get better performance. Turn off Vsync if you have mid range machine. Lower shadows, HDR, View distance. The game is a little slower paced too. Think of a Tactical CoD server.

    Performance Drop; 1.5.8.2 Hotfix

I notice if I die or abort/disconnect to Hit the Head, when I load back in the frame-rate is really low. I have to restart the client and it starts out ok but starts to degrade over time a little bit. As soon as I disconnect and come back in the low frames are there.
  9. Make sure you start Steam as Administrator or Run ArmA as Administrator. Update the .DLLs for Battleeye. I did this manually without uninstalling. There are two .dlls, one client, one server. Just drop them in the folder they tell you to. This has cleared up any instance of me dropping from server after receiving data.

    Build 1.5.8 rolling update

I'm getting at lauch of ARMA:CO "Dayz_code requires Dayz_equip" , I have dayz_equip_v1.2.4.rar extracted in the same folder, I have 1.5.8.1 too. Edit:Something buggered with the Download i think, I re-dowloaded equip again now it wants weapons, weapons is 1KB...ignore the above portion of my post. Some of you sensitive little bitches can't tell that Rocket is joking? You and your buddies don't bust each others balls? I find it refreshing that Rocket is as open with us as he is.

A view on this whole PvP fiasco

The threat of players is a core component of DayZ and the emotional response it elicits from the player is precisely what this experiment was created for. I understand ARMA2's core principles but more so are the DayZ priciples upon which it was created. Simply put, hiding from another stressed out human who probably doesn't want to kill you but is so scared that your the asshole that is going to kill HIM is a large portion of this awesome experience. This is a Mod also. There is nothing preventing someone from creating another Mod for the DayZ Mod that allows you to survive alone. Just don't expect Rocket and the Crew to do it for you. :P

How do people group and communicate?

I really hope they can get in game communication working well. It's fine to have a TS/Mumble and know a few people but the interactions with people not in your VOIP program are part of what make this game so intense. Direct Channel VOIP should allow for a real experience talking with other survivors without a shoot on sight mentality. As it is now it is so hard to communicate with someone the decision to try to communicate is a decision to allow yourself to be shot in the hopes they are not hostile. Side/Global is just broadcasting your position to the entire server. Edit: I'll have to try wustenfuch's technique on resetting direct.

Re spawned in the floor at Novy Sobor

The only time this happened to me is when I spawned on a 1.5.6 server by accident. I think that house in Novy Sobor is at Coordinate 0,0 on the map or something. It looks close to the center. The graphic glitch is from spawning in the wall. I had it too. I logged out after the version mismatch notification came up. Spawned a little bit away on another server.
  14. I cannot find a place to put down a fireplace. I even tried the middle of a paved road. The Forest is impossible it seems. So I would really like this one to be worked on a little. Tasty meats needs a cooking. Cow drops 8 meat!!!
