Server admins stealing GUIDs for spoofing
random51 replied to dayzdeadmeat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
And if things continue as they have the past two weeks nobody ever will. The retarded arguments about who paid what for what, what is in alpha and what isn't, whose responsibility it is to fix X and deal with Y are just a smokescreen. One wonders why people are putting up a smokescreen to distract people from the real problem? Hacking of DayZ servers is not rare. It is not unusual. In the past two weeks it has become the norm, not the exception. Without some visible demonstration to convince the players that steps are being taken to not only end the current spree but pro-actively put a damper on future ones a great many people are going to lose faith in the mod's future. Those same people are the ones who have been convincing others to buy ArmaII/OA just to play it. If you want DayZ to wither on the vine then by all means continue to put a towel over you head hoping that since you can't see the hackers that they can't see you. -
The graphics corruption from the soldier corpses has pushed them down towards the coast where they spend their time sniping/countersniping each other while taking potshots at fresh respawns. Once you can go to nwaf or stary without a cubist monstrosity taking over your screen the action will shift back up north. Some of it is probably due to the hacking as well. Why spend time heading north to gear up when you're just going to lose all of it next time a hacker logs into the server? Just deathmatch on the coast for now, reduces your investment and consequential loss.

missed being "Thunderdomed" twice today while loading in
random51 replied to Larkins's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
In my experience thunderdome only kills you if they start it while you're on the server. It sucks players in at that point. Once it is setup if you're not in there you're safe until they fire it up again or manually summon you. I've canceled connect a couple times when seeing that message too. -
[DayZMod] The Dayz Statistics thread!
random51 replied to Ander (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I'd like to see a comparison of the numbers of players killed by hackers vs. the number of players killed by gameplay. How about the number of players who lost all their equipment while being summoned to the thunderdome? That'd be another nice stat. Another great stat would be how many bones were broken by doors. :) -
He's packing an AS50 and an L85, if he ends up in a close-quarters battle he has already failed. If you want him to plan for failure he might as well get rid of the AS50 and keep both the ARs. ;)

Guess what happens on the border of your safe trading zone? I'll give you a hint: it involves sniper rifles. You may make it into that safe trading zone and manage to trade 5 steaks for a syringe of morphine but I doubt you're going to make it out alive. Every building in the game is a safe trading zone at this point, as long as the parties involved are interested in trading.
-
I'd keep the L85 if you intend to be a sniper. The thermal scope is a priceless advantage. Another thing you might consider is that you could fit the L85 and a 2nd rifle in a Coyote backpack, just make sure they both use Stanag so you only need half the ammo space.

Great idea, while you spend time reviewing the history of the guy you just ran into he will be blowing your head off. Problem solved. On a serious note the problem isn't KoS, the problem is that a lot of us don't agree with you that KoS is a problem in the first place. We don't think it is broken so we're not going to be receptive to your attempts to fix it. Long story short, if people can KoS some percentage of the playerbase will do so. The only way to significantly change this is to completely remove it as an option. What I find most entertaining about the situation is that something like a bandit skin or tag isn't going to stop KoS, it is going to make it even more attractive so that you get the cool skin, the cool nametag, etc. If I were you I think I'd spend my efforts trying to convince Rocket that a kindler, gentler DayZ would be a better DayZ because he is the only one who can make it happen. You're not going to convince the KoS advocates.

Dayz unplayable due to hackers
random51 replied to Fat Toggaf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The "spam" doesn't make it difficult to discuss anything else. You want to discuss something else, start a thread and get to the discussing. Most of your "discussions" will achieve nothing of value as well. Talk is cheap, particularly on the 'net. The simple fact of the matter is that the people complaining about cheating would rather be playing DayZ but since they get bitchslapped by hackers every time they try they can't. The answer isn't to tell them to shut up, it is to stop the hackers. Decrease the hacking and you'll see a commensurate decrease in the "OMG a lame hacker just killed the entire server, FIX IT." threads. Seems like common sense. Instead you try to act like their opinions don't count, that their concerns are invalid, and that they shouldn't be allowed to voice their concerns because you don't find them as important as wtf-ever it is you want to discuss. You really expect your approach to make things better? lol. -
When will this game have consequence for player killing?
random51 replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No strawman there. You hold up scattered examples of "conscience" and decide that it should be applied to everybody for "realism" when history shows us that anything but that is the case. Remember, I'm not the one trying to argue that KoS is unrealistic. The only burden upon me is to prove that KoS was practiced by any number of societies throughout history. It was, so clearly KoS is realistic. You don't get to mandate the society that develops within DayZ, you only get to contribute your small portion to it. If you want to play Gandhi on the train tracks in front of Cherno nobody is stopping you. Start a commune down there, smoke weed all day, practice free love, promote oneness with nature, and see how well you do vs. the KoS survivalists. Those with the weapons make the rules and when it comes to weapons I'll take an m16a4 Acog over a conscience any day of the week during the zombie apocalypse. -
When will this game have consequence for player killing?
random51 replied to scaramoosh's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You should read some history. You'll find that a conscience is a luxury most can't afford during something like a zombie apocalypse. All of that conditioning, all of those social niceties that allow us to live in cities without murdering our neighbors? It all goes out the window. If they have something you feel you need/want, you take it. If you feel even the least bit threatened you kill them or chase them out of your territory. There is your tribe and then there is everybody else. The people in your tribe? Humans, deserving of the same treatment you'd want. Everybody else? Sub-humans, at best a resource to be exploited, at worst a threat to the survival of your tribe. People who argue that the shoot-on-sight mentality that pervades DayZ is "unrealistic" are people who are not students of history. Most of them are people who would be dead in a month if the electricity went out and they couldn't drive to mcdonalds for a burger. -
Dayz unplayable due to hackers
random51 replied to Fat Toggaf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Server admins can't do much of anything about it, is why you see even the server admins posting and deciding to no longer sponsor servers. -
You have two choices: 1. Continue to play and continue to have your progress wiped out whenever a hacker feels like it, or 2. Stop playing. Those are the only officially-supported choices you have as a player. That is why so much frustration is is showing up in the forums, the players don't have any other outlet for it, they're helpless against these cheaters.

Dayz unplayable due to hackers
random51 replied to Fat Toggaf's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Eh, complaining about people complaining about hackers seems kind of redundant. I suppose now I'm complaining about somebody complaining about somebody complaining? Oops. As long as there are lots of people playing that new mod, HackZ which runs on top of DayZ on top of ArmaII you're going to have people complaining in the forums. They can't play, they're frustrated, this is the natural outlet for that frustration. Flip a coin, who'll give up on DayZ first, the cheaters or the players? -
Except in all those other games the server admins have tools at their disposal to police their server. Except in all those other games it isn't hardcore---go right back to the start with nothing when you die, losing all progress. The cheating on top of Arma II is the worst I've seen in over a decade. On top of that it is more damaging to the players than in most games. Some aimbotter kills you in an FPS you just go to a different server, you don't lose your gear, you don't lose any progress, you don't have to worry about a camp/supplies/vehicle/etc. you're leaving behind on the other server. Once one of them decides to automate the entire login, compromise server, kill everybody, logout process the arma II version of the mod will be doomed.

The day it becomes some other game than DayZ. -
why not just roll back the patch until sorted ?
random51 replied to dgeesio's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It isn't the graphic fix holding it back, IMHO. They already know how to fix that, I'd think, seeing as how they fixed barbed wire so it doesn't do the same thing. Either there are new features/content holding it back or they're waiting to time it with an anti-hacker push, IMHO. Sad thing is I've managed a good work around for the graphics glitch but the only work around for the hacking is to not play at all. -
Ammo is not that hard to get, soldier zombies drop it regularly. Of course it'll be harder if magazines don't magically refill themselves when you logout. I've found the pistol most often in hangers or the tents at Stary. The way the RNG is streaky if you find one you might find two or three there, grab all the ammo. :P

So How Many Have Stoped Playing DayZ?
random51 replied to LumberBack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Think I have to quit, can't play at all during the day without getting killed by script kiddies. 4 deaths in 2 weeks, all 4 of them from teleport script kills. Losing my gear to a better player or somebody who gets the jump on me or because I make a boneheaded mistake is something I can handle. Having all of my efforts destroyed in the blink of an eye by some asshole who downloaded a script isn't. -
Teleport Entire Server Kill Dallas 3(US 1461)
random51 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Twice in one day is two times too many for me. Running along, next thing you know you're falling with everybody else on the server and dead. -
No different than finding a barn full of hatchets.
-
As long as tents/vehicles require a manual save process duping is going to be part of dayz. Rocket has already said that he can't fix all of the duping in the mod because the problem isn't in the mod, it is in Arma II and/or the underlying engine.
-
You don't get banned for using hacked in weapons. You get banned---supposedly---for hacking the weapons in yourself. Rocket has already stated this quite clearly. Just do a search to find exactly what he said. You most likely won't get banned for using in-game dupes. If they banned for that they'd have to ban just about everybody who plays DayZ because it is hard to avoid duping during normal gameplay. There are enough bugs that it just happens.

The biggest problems facing DayZ right now
random51 replied to switch296's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've died twice in the past 2 weeks, both times to hackers who killed me with a teleport before I could do anything. If you think US servers are somehow immune I can only imagine you were dropped on your head as a child, multiple times. -
HACKERS! Do not join by Inch 100 player Server!

I guess that makes you a vector.
