The tactical significance of sniper rifles, accumulated rebuttals and why they're here to stay
random51 replied to ZedsDeadBaby's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If duping wasn't near automatic, including magazine refill upon login would you really waste rounds shooting at somebody's feet? If you're going to use a bullet you should maximize the return on your investment. Aim for the head and then drink all their Dew. -

Rocket: Anything you need to tell us?

If it is the end of the beginning then it must also be the beginning of the end. Doom! -
My loadout changes as often as I get killed by hackers. My target loadout is this: M16A4 ACOG - on the move, security, bulk zombie removal L85A2 AWS - spotter, rangefinder AS50 - designated marksman M9 SD - infiltration With a Coyote Backpack and 2 rifles that share ammunition you can pack three primaries. You can't carry a lot of food/water/medical supplies but you only need a water bottle, a knife, matches, and a hatchet to keep yourself fed and watered. No need to list the rest of the equipment since it is the same for everybody. I mean come on, you're going to carry NVGs if you can, you're going to have a rangefinder if you can, etc., blah blah blah blah.

The tactical significance of sniper rifles, accumulated rebuttals and why they're here to stay

Sniper rifles are fine, any gun that is a 1-hit kill to a full health player *without* a headshot isn't. It is a matter of gameplay balance, not realism, not people complaining about getting killed. The most devastating gun in the game shouldn't also be one of the easiest to use, IMHO. Again, gameplay balancing, not realism is what forms this opinion. -
Is nice. Make it a starry, moonlit night, zoom out 100m, put the helicopter in the right third of the panel and I'd make it my background instantly. :) I can't handle brightly lit wallpaper, gives me eyestrain.

Nobody wants fn-fal anpvs for a reason. They're useless during anything other than darkest night.

Thinking about trading a L85A2 AWS for M16ACOG
random51 replied to Bluetorchtv's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is my ACOG, there are many like it but this one is mine. I don't think the OP is crazy at all. While the L85 excels at one thing, the ACOG excels at many things. Great weapon for scouting on the move, good range, good damage, great optics, and it'll actually hit what you aim at, unlike the L85. When I was last faced with choosing between L85 and ACOG I regretted leaving my ACOG behind. Let somebody else in the squad carry the L85. Keep your AS50 for sniping and the ACOG for when you have to move. -
I was on a server with only one other player, a hacker logged in just to kill us both. Started changing my name regularly after that, lol, just in case it was targeted.

If we limited forum discussion to effective threads there'd be no discussion left on most forums. -
Why can't we just have one solid username?
random51 replied to spankimus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Has nothing to do with username. Those hackers already have a unique name, the GUID, when it comes to the game. If they can falsify that they can falsify a name just as easily. If you couldn't change your name it would allow people to follow you from server to server. No thanks. It'd be the end of dayz streaming if you could find where the streamer was playing with a simple name scan. What people need to consider before starting threads like this is that the developers aren't retards. This is actually their job, they have plenty of incentive to come up with good ideas to fix the problems. The odds of you finding a magic bullet that they've overlooked are slim to nonexistent. Generally something that looks perfect from your point of view has a number of drawbacks from the devs' point of view, drawbacks you're not considering. -
What do you guys think about the L85A2 AWS?
random51 replied to money544's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think it needs to be removed from the game. it renders the stealthy, patient approach pretty much useless since they can see you coming regardless. Until that happens, though, it is pretty much mandatory gear for the spotter/security member of a sniper team. -
Are nvg green box on ground or looks like nvg ?
random51 replied to [email protected]'s topic in New Player Discussion
They do look just like binoculars? NOOOoOOOooOOooOooo. LoL. I expected them to look like NVGs and don't even bother looking at anything that looks like binoculars when I loot the barracks. -
If outplayed means teleported to the other side of the map and then dropped from ~100m to instant death than yes, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GETTING OUTPLAYED IN DAYZ LATELY. Where do I loot the mass portal gun so I can start outplaying people this way? Hit the NWAF barracks lots of times, Stary lots of times, downed helicopters lots of times, still haven't found this weapon with which I can outplay entire servers full of people at a time.

Arma II is alpha? I did not know that. Battleye is alpha? I did not know that. HINT: The DayZ mod isn't what the hackers are attacking. It doesn't matter what Greek letter DayZ is in. If anything, the fact that it is facing this fierce of an attack while still just an alpha should be cause for alarm, not for complacency.
-
Doesn't matter how sure you are, you'd still be wrong. It isn't DayZ that needs to be modified. DayZ(and ArmaII) itself is mostly those scripts you're trying to prevent running. Without the ability to manipulate those scripts in any number of ways on the client the game and mod themselves don't work. To use an analogy, the foundation of the house is the problem. Nothing you can do to the house is going to fix the foundation. Redoing that foundation while you've got not just DayZ but ArmaII sitting on top of it is a monumental task. A monumental task that probably doesn't seem even remotely worth it when you've got ArmaIII coming out this winter. If there was an easy and/or quick solution they would have already jumped on it. The most likely "solution" at this point is going standalone so they can do away with the legacy issues of ArmaII and the engine it runs on. Curiously enough you might note that Rocket has been talking about going standalone quite a bit lately. ;)

Hacking, Hacking, Hacking, Hacking, Hacking...
random51 replied to Gumpnstein's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Most of the people who don't have hacking issues are people who hack themselves or don't actually play for more than 15 minutes at a time, once a month, on an otherwise empty server. -
Hacking, Hacking, Hacking, Hacking, Hacking...
random51 replied to Gumpnstein's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Not as pointless as your response, though. -
Every death I've had in the past two weeks was hackers. You're brain-damaged if you think otherwise. What gameplay element in DayZ teleports me---and every other player on the server except for one---to the other side of the map and then drops us 100m to our deaths? I was killed that way twice today and twice the last time I played during prime time. In between then I've been playing very early morning on very low pop servers which has allowed me to avoid most of the hackers, albeit has also allowed me to avoid most of the elements of DayZ I enjoy. Change servers once in awhile? I thought server-hopping was bad? I do change servers, it doesn't matter when hackers can show up on any server at any time. I find it mind-boggling that some people are trying to downplay just how bad that hacking currently is. I really have to wonder what your motives are.

Losing to gameplay gives me the drive to struggle back to the top of the hill. Losing all my stuff because somebody downloaded a script gives me the drive to play something else.
-
I've learned to wait at least 5 minutes after picking something new up or shifting anything into/out of my backpack to logout. If you don't wait you're flipping a coin on whether or not it gets recorded properly. A lot of people are using this behavior to dupe items, BTW.

Rocket - shut down the alpha test if you ever expect to get ppls money

The cheaters are already winning. There is no "let" to it. Something drastic has to happen soon, the OP's suggestion is one of the possibilities. -
US 1337 Bug Testing Battle Eye Banned?
random51 replied to arma2eraseditself's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
As long as it isn't a global ban I wouldn't worry about it. I think admins have some leeway and what sorts of scripts will trigger a battleye response and what level of response is triggered. The admins of that server are probably trying to find the strictest ruleset that still allows a majority of their players to play. Basically you've got a bunch of admins out there who are trying to protect their servers with inadequate tools and a overall policy that doesn't let them simply make a private, yet still hive-connected server.
