Where do you hop when you're trying to find a Ghillie?
random51 replied to t1337dude's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is a place in Chernarus. This place is a ghost town due to the current graphic glitches. This place borders a forest. This place has a train station, 3 apartment buildings, and 3 small civilian house spawns in very, very close proximity to each other. There is even an office building not too far away but it isn't recommended because sometimes it doesn't seem to have any loot at all. At this place a server hopper would find himself a ghillie fairly quickly. If he stuck to night servers he wouldn't even be in any danger. -

Two Ways To Actually Fix the "Bandit Problem"
random51 replied to jstarkreborn's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
1st off, I was being sarcastic. :D While I'm here though, I'll address some of the points you're trying to make. 2nd off, I don't camp spawn points. There is no reason to kill people respawning on the beach. There are much easier ways for me to acquire a new flashlight or bandage if I need one. 3rd off, All those other games you mentioned? They're not hardcore PvP survival in an open world. Name another hardcore PvP open world survival game. Try to name another. You can find 3 out of 4 of those in many, many other games. You can't find all 4 anywhere else that I'm aware of. That is why I like this mod. That is why I want to keep playing it. That is why I find it funny when somebody says "bandit problem". That is why I resist the efforts of carebears to water down any of those 4 elements. I can't get the full experience anywhere else. The limited experience you prefer IS available elsewhere. There is no bandit problem. You "fix" your perceived bandit problem and you'll most likely have watered this game down into a forgettable experience that nobody will spend more than 4 hours with before moving on. Lastly, what every person who posts about "needing more encouragement/incentive to work together instead of kill on sight." seems to be ignoring is that almost every GOOD player of the game does work together with one or more other good players. What we don't do is work with complete strangers when we can instead work with players we know from other games, players we already trust, players who are already on the same mumble/teamspeak server with us, players we know aren't horrible at games like this. The only way you are going to stop that is to make it impossible to play with friends you've made elsewhere. Good luck with that plan. Long story short, if you perceive a lack of cooperation in this game you need to recruit some friends. -
You will if it ever gets released...

Two Ways To Actually Fix the "Bandit Problem"

What bandit problem? I keep killing people and all I get are murders, not bandit kills. Is it that bandit problem you're referring to? I figure I just need to kill more people. -
Hacking, Hacking, Hacking, Hacking, Hacking...
random51 replied to Gumpnstein's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A solution can't be coded up overnight. You know what can be coded up overnight? An official statement. You don't have to give away your gameplan to the hacking community with it, just provide enough to reassure the rest of your community. The problems with dealing with hacking are easily excusable due to the nature of ArmaII and the underlying engine. The utter lack of communication IS NOT. -
DMR is pretty good. Harder to use than the rifles where you can change the zeroing, though. Spend some time in the Armory to learn how to use the mildots properly at each zoom level. Once mastered it is one of the best overall rifles. Hard to compete with the lame 1-hit anywhere AM rifles, but still.

He probably dropped it in exchange for a DMR with ammo.

Yo, we heard you like abusing respawning.
random51 replied to iceman28001's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You can prone and then just roll out of the building with q or e. You can also spam vault and get out in at least one of the corners. This knowledge is too late to help you but maybe it'll help somebody else. -

That is a great idea. -
That's funny, every time I see somebody using an AS50 I think to myself, "noob". That rifle turns the game into duckhunt.

double tap isn't a toggle for scope zoom. single tap is. at least it was on the L85 I played with for awhile.

What do you guys think about the SVD (camo)?
random51 replied to money544's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
SVD camo is pretty good. I recommend practicing with it in the Armory before using it in DayZ. There is definitely a learning curve. If they fix the various ammo/dupe exploits I expect the SVD Camo to become mostly a collector's item, as few people will find enough ammo to make it worth carrying around. Other than that the major reason to not use it is because there are variable zero anti-materiel rifles that kill with a hit anywhere to the body and are just as accurate. You're going to be gimping yourself vs. anybody with an as50, for instance. -
Some people would find it an incentive to play better.
-
NWAF barracks is only place they spawn normally. You're more likely to find 10 of them duped in a tent than 1 in a barracks, though.

Hackers, and the state of the standalone game?
random51 replied to KetchupOnTheDog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The next to last time I was killed by a hacker there were only 2 people on the server before the hacker logged in and killed us both. If they think you're trying to avoid them it makes you that much more juicy of a target. -
How can I escape death from a hacker?

Play a singleplayer game. -
Camp found on US 405. Got six vehicles.
random51 replied to MetalGearSolid's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Do you have any proof that this isn't just coincidence? I'm all for halting admin abuse but I don't see any proof of it in this thread. All I see is speculation and conclusions with no evidence to backup either. -
Need advice decreasing load times with my pc. Buying an SSD possibly.
random51 replied to sainjori's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The load times aren't caused by your PC if all of the various pieces of the puzzle are installed properly. The load times are a server<----->hive issue. I have all of this on SSD. On a good server I can be in the game in less than a minute. On a bad server it could take forever, literally. Do yourself a favor before buying any hardware. Make sure all of dayz/arma2/battleye is installed properly. Then see how fast you can load up on a server that is at the same arma2 beta rev and that reboots itself every 4-6 hours. I think you'll find that loading is fine. -
Playable alpha vs. concept artwork from a group of people with either no track record or a really bad one. The winner is obvious. :)

Online Petition to make Devs/BI/BE aware of the scale cheating
random51 replied to leepfrog's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is too late for Arma II or any mod built on it. I suspect the same will be true for Arma III unless they've completely scrapped their scripting model. Standalone on an engine that isn't script-based from the ground up is the only real answer, IMHO. -
What's the reason behind the "hive" model?
random51 replied to dfo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You've listed all the negative and none of the advantages. The advantage is that your character is persistent across all hive servers. The advantage is that if you're on what turns out to be a crappy server you don't lose the time you spent gearing up that character. The advantage is that if a server goes offline you can still play your main character. The disadvantages you've listed? They can all be summed as, "poor sporstsmanship makes for a bad competition." The hive model isn't the problem, the class of people you're playing with is. Knowing and experiencing that, I'm sure the dev team wants to fix many/most of those issues. Their hands are tied with anything that is part of Arma II, though, and almost every mechanic in the game is. Standalone is the holy grail that lets them hopefully address most of these issues. In the meantime play on private hive servers if you don't want the disadvantages of the public hive and don't care about the advantages. -
Lack of players heading up North Nowadays?
random51 replied to shinii's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
A. Graphics corruption makes NWAF/Stary problematic for some/many players. B. Hackers make staying fully geared problematic for everybody except other hackers. If you're just going to get instakilled at any moment by a hacker it doesn't make any sense to try to get geared up and head north. Just play cherno/elektro deathmatch/sniper hunt. Those two things are why the players have shifted south. -
I don't think the OP understands, these people are alt-f4'ing in the hope that their death doesn't get recorded by the Hive. They're not worried about looting their corpse because they don't expect to be dead when they log back in on a different server. Denying your loot to whomever killed you is just a consolation prize for when your exploit fails.
