    patch 1.7.3

    Just like the last patch...

    loving the hacker threads

I look at the replies in this thread and I'm left wondering if anybody actually read the original post.

Dogs are in next patch !!!!!!

Where are the dog ghillie suits going to spawn?
  4. The announcement about standalone really shouldn't influence your decision to buy arma2:co to play DayZ. Here is how the decision works: 1. Do I intend to hack the mod? If yes, the go ahead and buy arma2:co to play DayZ. If no then don't buy anything until the hacking comes back down to reasonable levels.

Dogs are in next patch !!!!!!

The dogs are for raiding NWAF, they're not bothered by the graphics corruption that is seemingly impossible to hotfix.
  6. A. When you are not in cover never stop moving. B. Always stay in hard cover if you can, if you can't concealment is the next best thing. C. If you're still in a coastal city an hour after you respawned you made a mistake, probably a lot of them. This is advice for people who aren't interested in the current Coastal Counterstrike fad, obviously. 1. Spawn in. Immediately find hard cover and/or concealment while you figure out exactly where you are on the coast. 2. Figure out the nearest grouping of spawns large enough to yield you 2-3 food, 2-3 soda, and some other basics. 3. Hit that grouping, when you stop to loot something make sure you're out of any long range sightlines. Make sure you're facing the most likely direction to get attacked from at short range. 4. Once you've looted that, figure out where the closest 2nd tier(off the coast, but not deep in the interior)village is with a super market. That is your next destination. 5. Find any basic tools in that market, in that town that you missed down on the coast. Pick up a basic weapon if you haven't already, snag a pack, etc. Now, you've got food, drink, hopefully you've got matches/hatchet/skinning knife/water bottles, you can live off the land, never approaching a village or town until you're comfortable that it is safe, or it is a moonlit night so you can see just fine and the zombies can't. Now you can address longer term priorities. The three most important are getting military grade weaponry, a supply of morphine, and a GPS. Good news, you don't have to go to town or a military base to get any of those, all of them can be had at remote deer stands and can be had without firing a shot, without exposing yourself until you are very sure there is nobody else around. Deerstands almost always have one forested approach. You want to come in that way. Come in just far enough for the zombies to spawn, then go prone in cover/concealment and wait and watch. The way zombies typically spawn is in a clump, on a point. Over time they'll usually radiate directly away from that point. In this case, that point is the deerstand. Once they're comfortably far away from the deerstand, approach it stealthily. Quite often you can use 3rd person camera to see what is in the deerstand without actually exposing yourself on the ladder, or up top. You don't want to risk that ladder unless you're fairly confident there is something up there worth grabbing. That ladder is the most exposed, most defenseless you've been since you spawned on the beach. Don't waste time in the stand, don't stand up, if you're going to loot, do it quickly and get out of there. Experienced players know that zombies mean players and if they see zombies around a deerstand they're going to know somebody is there. Voila, you survived the initial spawn and you've got everything you need to survive indefinitely in the boonies. Once you can do that without breaking much of a sweat it'll get boring, that'll be the time to switch over to using other players to get your gear when you respawn. You can also use either of these methods to fully gear up after using the above methods to get your basics. method #1: Once you know the map and are familiar with how many people play it, you'll realize that you can get everything you need just by finding somebodies stashed tents and/or vehicles. These are almost always hidden in the same areas of the map. Grab enough food/water in town so that you wont die and then hit the likely camp spots. method #2: You'll realize that the people who like to snipe freshly spawned players are actually fairly poor when it comes to skill level. These people are easy to flank, easy to sneak up behind and kill with basic weapons. They'll have tunnel-vision through the scope of their 1-hit I-Win rifle, making them easy meat. These people will usually be fully geared, all of which you take after killing them. Leave anything you don't need on them and hide their body. The really dangerous groups/players in this area are usually there to hunt the noob hill snipers and those players/groups will often leave you be if you don't pose a direct threat, some of them will even help you if they're feeling generous and despise the hill snipers as much as most players do. All of this ignores the largest threat to survival, at least on non-private servers, and that is the hacker who can kill you at any time, regardless of where you are, regardless of how smart you're playing. Kind of makes any long term strategies pointless, which is a major reason so much of the action has moved down to the coast.
  7. 1-hit body shots are poor gameplay. Any attack that kills you effectively instantly and requires almost no skill whatsoever makes for really bad gameplay. You either understand this or you don't really understand game mechanics. I'm going to leave it at that because there is no point arguing it with people who get their jollies from using the I-Win button. You manage to kill somebody with a headshot from a DMR or SVD, only using one round, you've shown some skill, you can call yourself a videogame sniper with pride. You kill somebody with a shot anywhere to the body with an AS50 or M107, all you are is a glorified whack-a-mole player. ...which is why every cheesedick sniper on the hills above elektro or cherno is rocking an AS50 if they can. It is trivially easy to kill that guy 800m away who has the range of a string of spaghetti without him even aware you're there. Not only are you using the highest damage, easiest to use sniper rifle in the game, you're seeking out targets who for the most part are guaranteed to not have similar capabilities. ...but hey, keep on doing it and keep on feeling special because you're a DayZ whack-a-mole champion. The good players will continue to laugh at you while they face real challenges up north.
  8. It doesn't matter what their playstyle is. It matters what the people who watch streams/youtube find interesting. If most of those people didn't find hardcore pvp interesting they wouldn't continue to watch those streams. They'd switch to watching the boring PvE streams. Right? If the PvE streams were more interesting, more entertaining, wouldn't we be seeing an influx of people who were interested in that playstyle? Right? Curiously enough neither of those are happening, are they? Should tell you something about the REAL market for this game. The simple fact of the matter is that the "good old days" so many claim for this mod was based upon ignorance. People didn't know how to survive, they didn't have everything online in wikis, they didn't have maps, they didn't have full equipment lists. That is what made them more likely to work with other players, less likely to pursue PvP. Knowledge is power and most of them were powerless. Nothing will bring that back. You can't stuff the knowledge genie back in the bottle. Things are different today. Most of those original players, at least the ones who still play know all there is to know about survival in Chernarus. Survival vs. PvE threats has become subconscious, a daily chore, basically work they have to do every now and then so they can spend the rest of their time having fun. What is the only challenge left to them in DayZ? Why its the most dangerous animal of all, their fellow humans. This existing population of experienced hunters makes it rough on new players. The wealth of knowledge posted in wikis, youtube, any number of forums allows the current crop of players a leg up the original ones didn't have which somewhat counterbalances the increase in PvP, though. Yes there are more human predators, but the starting players---at least the ones smart enough to do research outside of the game---aren't completely clueless about survival in Chernarus. Long story short, the playerbase of DayZ is evolving. Trying to stifle that evolution with gameplay systems that limit freedom isn't going to make the mod better. It isn't going to attract more players. It is going to drive away the core audience for what is currently the best hardcore open world pvp survival---best? more like only---game out there. I can tell you right now that isn't going to happen. The market for the boring PvE zombie game is a crowded one. The market for the exciting hardcore PvP open world survival game? That's what they call an untapped market. That is where the money is. That is why you see that crowd of FPS gamers/streamers leaving their highly polished, AAA shooters to stream a mod in Alpha, on top of a game whose interface could only be loved by a European engineer. It's new, it's different, it's unique. I think we should keep it that way.
  9. I got hacked on a server with 2 people(not counting the hacker). I can't find much lower pop and still call it a multiplayer game. Playing by yourself is just, umm, playing with yourself.

    Losing 2 AS50s in 10 minutes

The simple fact that you used a different server to get as close to your body as possible pretty much proves you were intentionally ghosting. If you're comfortable with that it is fine, but don't expect your rationalizations to convince anybody other than yourself.
  11. I hope your DayZ profile name does not match your forum name, for your sake. You've just chummed the waters.

    Murderer Bloodlust

I'll quote where you said it. I'm not jumping to conclusions, I'm reading what you posted and based upon my understanding of the English language deciding what you were trying to communicate. If you don't want to influence people away from PvP then why on earth would you think there is need for repercussion? Do you live somewhere where adding repercussions to actions causes people to perform those actions more then before the change? Sounds like a curious place. If you don't want to influence people away from PvP then why on earth do you want it to get harder for them to kill and easier for non-PvPers to get away and/or turn the tables? Without a motive like that these changes you're talking about don't make any sense to me. I don't believe in complexity for complexity's sake. In a multiplayer open world game you don't make things better by adding complexity, you make them better by adding freedom.

DayZ - NE Airfield solo raid

It has been ages since I've seen anybody besides zombies and livestock at the NE airfield. Good place to score an M9 SD and/or SD ammo when you need it.

    Murderer Bloodlust

I have a better idea: Instead of trying to get game mechanics manipulated to punish actions you deem unfit or immoral, start punishing them in-game, yourself. The same tools these people are using to break your rules are available to you to punish them for their sins. Pick up your rifle, saddle up your bicycles, and roll out with your posse. The only law in DayZ is made by players. The only morality is decided by players. If you want it to change, demonstrate the courage of your convictions and make it happen. If---as most people who post suggestions like this seem to think---there are lots of people who feel the same way as you do, it should be no problem recruiting allies to your cause. ...or, instead of being a man, you can kneel in the dust, praying to Rocket for salvation while the savage hordes of DayZ kill your men, rape your women, enslave your children, gorge on your livestock, and salt your fields, insuring that the only god known to man is chaos incarnate.

    Sniping elektro with the AS50

I'm not telling you what to use to kill the most people, I'm telling you what to use to show skill. Ever heard of NASCAR? Ever heard of IROC? Ever heard of class limits? If you're going to try to use an analogy to defend your stance, next time pick one that will actually defend your stance. The way you talk it would take noteworthy "skill" to win a NASCAR race while driving a Formula 1 car. You're using the best sniper rifle in the entire game to kill people who are running around with hatchets and makarovs, people who can't even get to you without a helicopter and you're calling it skill? I'm left with just one conclusion: The skill displayed in your video is equivalent to the intelligence displayed in your posts.

    Any servers still have Sidechat

I played on a reddit server yesterday that had sidechat enabled. Unfortunately at least one hacker played there as well.

Any big camps i can raid?

Instead of giving you a fish, I will teach you how to fish. Recently the player-usable helicopter was reintroduced back into the game. The spawn point for this vehicle is on an island. One of the server variables causes you to lose gear while swimming. There are few boats to be had in DayZ. With those 4 bits of knowledge, a player could deduce a likely place on the mainland to find tents or vehicles where a player has temporarily stashed most of his gear before making the swim over to the island. I put this knowledge to good use last night, garnering an m16a4 acog, nvgs, rangefinder, gps, morphine, and a couple other items I was in need of.

    Sniping elektro with the AS50

I've got some bad news for you. As an adjustable zeroing, 1-hit kill anywhere rifle it is literally impossible to exhibit skill while using an AS50. Go back to that spot but take an SVD or DMR. Then get 5 kills with 5 bullets. That will be an exhibition of skill.

    Cannot launch DayZ

dayzcommander in its default configuration will cause some routers to reboot. There is a slider where you can reduce the number of queries it sends per batch, try setting that to a lower number. The slider should be in the settings tab.

    95417 patch not installing.

You have to delete the beta directory manually before installing the patch, it won't overwite it. On my computer that directory is: v:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta If you are uncomfortable doing that there are programs that can do it for you, like dayzcommander.
  23. This isn't really true. After my first death-by-hacker of the day yesterday I found a ghillie suit in the SECOND house I went into in Elektro. I wasn't looking for a ghillie specifically, I was ditching some zombies and looking for everything/anything I could use. If I had been looking for a ghillie specifically at that point I still would have hit that house, only it would have been the first place I went, instead of the second.
  24. Achievements are horrible metagaming for people who don't have the imagination to create their own miniquests. I give myself 5 achievement points every time I kill somebody who is packing an AS50 or M107. If your proposed achievement system didn't give me achievements for killing other players I would continue to make up my own. "Tin can headshot prone survivor who has broken leg." 50 pts "Offer to bring morphine to somebody, bring hot lead instead." 50 pts "Offer to give survivor a gun. Shoot him, then put gun on his dead body." 50 pts. "Place 10 bear traps around hospital after taking all the morphine." 200 pts. "Put 5 rows of concertina wire around the only toolbox in all of Elektro. " 200 pts.

    South Berezino is a trap!

They don't call it a survival game for nothing, everything in Chernarus is potentially deadly. Even the doors are out to get you.
